Alloro - St. Albans
Good food and service in a friendly atmosphere - good for vegetarians.
What a lovely Italian restaurant hidden away on the high street with an impressive interior and a wonderfully simple but beautifully cooked menu of fresh tasty food. Thank you for making my wife's birthday meal special. :)
We booked in quite late but had no problem getting a table. The staff are friendly efficient and very helpful. Food was delicious particularly the starters and mains. Desserts are not great. The chocolate fondant is clearly pre cooked and thus cake not fondant. However the waitress took this off the bill as it was not as expected.
For those that like a drink Tues nights has a great offer of a set menu and unlimited wine for £22.95.
Great service - really friendly accommodating team.
Great value tasty Italian food. Would definitely go back.
The food was too oily, or with no taste. The menu was not too inviting as there was noting special about any of the meals.
When I arrived at the restaurant they had no record of my booking! I was very annoyed but the waitress found us a table! You had not done your part by passing on booking notice!!
The staff were really nice and super attentive. The food was really nice, absolutely no complaints from me!
We booked on OpenTable, but were informed by the restaurant they don't receive the bookings from opentable so best to book with the restaurant via their website. Trust me you wouldn't want to be disappointed!
Lovely food and restaurant, but totally ruined the creme brûlée by putting raspberries inside it, yuck. Lasagna was delicious, as was the carbonara.
Amazing food and amazing service. We are very picky eaters so pleasantly surprised
Really lovely cosy feel. Friendly staff, very helpfull, attentive and polite. Dont rush you either.
Alloro was a surprise for us as it's tucked quite a way back from the main street with a blink-and-you'll-miss-it sign out front.
The menu was comprehensive and covered all cravings and styles of eating (starters, sharing, salads, meat mains, pasta, pizzas, and risottos). Our food was out of this world and not your standard pasta and meat mains. Absolutely delicious. Would definitely go again.
Great meal with family and friends, food good wholesome, great service.
When we arrived they didn’t have our booking as they have no communication from Open table! Luckily it was not a busy evening so they fitted us in but they did explain that on a Saturday they have had to decline dinners booked through open table as they have not been told of the booking? The food was good; garlic flat bread, four seasons pizza and an unusual beef pasta dish that was really good. Their was confusion on wide choice of ice creams but they were delicious especially the raspberry sorbet. We look forward to our next visit but we will phone to book.
Average, not bad. Went on a quiet night, small numbers so not really a valid review.
Excellent value! Good welcoming staff. Food just hit the spot.
It was a great find, friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere.
Really enjoyed the relaxed nature of the restaurant, and will definitely recommend and go there again.
First time at the restaurant. Will definitely be going back.
Hidden gem. Serving great food set menu is excellent and attentive friendly staff.
Was a beautiful meal , very tasty.. great service although we felt a bit rushed ...
Peculiarly located with a walk through a corridor into a cavernous room.
Difficult to see how they make money on a Sunday with so few covers.
Adequate cooking for fairly standard Italian food.
Dinner for 2, nice setting.
Ordered the flat bread starter but it was more of a pizza when it arrived, which was a godsend as the main dish of a selection of fish (salmon, tuna, swordfish and prawns ) save for the tuna was so over cooked, it was dry and a big disappointment.
I informed a member of staff and they said they would tell someone... maybe the chef? Who knows ? But nothing was mentioned and no discount applied! So a disappointing end to a date night dining experience!
Excellent service very friendly and knowledgeable waiters , relaxing atmosphere food fantastic , will definitely recommend to family and friends
Second visit and just as good as the first. Hidden gem in St Albans. Great menu choices . Relaxing atmosphere .
This restaurant was really forgettable. The food wasn't great - fish completely over cooked to the point of dry. The garlic bread pizza was so thin it was more like a cracker!! Service was included in the bill which really annoys me! Overall expensive and forgettable.
Impeccable, highly attentive service, big portions of excellent food so incredibly high value for money. Our dishes were absolutely delicious. Lovely cosy restaurant yet spaced apart enough that you feel you have your own space - would be great for a group outing.
A lovely meal with excellent personal service and authentic Italian cuisine.
It was lucky that they had a space as opentable did not pass on our booking, even though we get sent a confirmation.
In future I will book direct
Good all around! Nice inventive food, good service, good value for money.
