allium restaurant + bar Ratings and Reviews
As a person with food allergies I was very happy to have many options! The waitress was extremely knowledgeable and comfortably friendly, the chef was very accommodating with my requests. The food was creatively excellent! The staff were excellent! Parking was tricky, but it was Saturday night at the prime dining hour. Overall, I highly recommend!
We were in town for a wedding and saw this place on trip advisor. One of the best meals we had in a long time. Service was good, prices were a little high but the food was tasty. We would recommend and go back when in the area. My wife is gluetin free and she loved the meal.
First time there, pleasantly surprised. Birthday dinner for one of the kids. Nice decor, great service and very interesting menu, that included some things we had never seen on menu before like smoked potatoes and crispy felafel beans. Did I mention great service? both server and busser were amazing!
This was our second meal at Allium. We had a family meal with our adult son and found the service excellent and the food delicious. We could talk and eat with just the right level of attention from staff - always helpful and present, but not hovering. After appetizers, we had the steak, chicken and a combination of two small plates. Especially recommended: the chickpea nibbles appetizer, the kale salad. Good desserts too.
While the wine list was very progressive and interesting, none of the five dishes we tried were terribly exciting. Everything seemed underseasoned and relatively austere. It didn't help that we were seated right next to a kitchen door that we were promised was a "rarely used prep kitchen." That door swung open a ton during our meal and got slammed shut on more than one occasion.
We had a lovely time here. It was 'as advertised'. The ingredients were fresh and you actually taste the freshness. 3 small plates were sufficient. We loved the the shishito peppers, the razor clams with fennel and dill and the brussel sprouts in iberian ham lard. Service was pleasant but they got backed up as the evening got busier. But understandable. Overallgreat. We will repeat with the changing menu.
We selected Allium for our anniversary, and were so happy we did. The food was wonderful, the service was exceptional, and the options worked for us - and we are hard to feed. One of us is vegetarian & gluten-free. We appreciate Allium's farm-to-table philosophy and their honest support of local farms, as well as their special menu items that give these ingredients their opportunity to shine. We had to have the kale salad, love their beets, and were happy that risotto with hen and chick mushrooms were on the menu. Everything we had was delicious!
Had a nice pre-theater dinner at Allium. My wife and I split an appetizer (fried onions & pickles), two small plates (brussel sprouts and a squash/sausage combo) and one large plate (mushroom risotto). With two glasses of wine the total was about $90 plus tip. Food was excellent, much more distinctive than described above, and nicely presented. Service was also excellent. I usually reserve five stars for high end and this was more casual but we had no complaints. Parking was a hassle though ... had to wander around looking for a spot and would up a few blocks away. Afterwards we saw the Paul Taylor dance concert at the nearby Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, which was a real treat! Just picked this one from OpenTable and would recommend it to anyone.
It was a girls weekend and we had booked this restaurant early which was smart as it was very busy. The atmosphere had a Jackson Hole, Wyoming feel to it and it was definitely cozy. Our waitress was amazing, I forgot her name but she's French. She knew the menu well and was able to make very good suggestions. She took all our drink orders and some of us had special requests. Service was great and the food was great. The bar was busy and it did take a little long to get drinks which is only reason I am not putting this place as excellent. Will definitely go back.
The food is excellent, especially since the new chef has taken over the kitchen. His wife (?) Sandra (?) is a wonderful waitress. BUT this last time we had another server. Very nice, but a little slow.
Nice that there are new things to choose from almost overtime we go there now.
My only reservation about the restaurant was that tables were too close and conversations nearby were too easily heard. This causes me to talk less and enjoy the night less, simply wanting to leave earlier than I normally would. I would not return for that reason.
Nice looking restaurant, too bad the food wasn't as good as the room. Limited menu, I had the strip steak with potatoes, it arrived cool, like it was plated 10 minutes before serving it. My wife had the fish taco containng what looked like the fish sticks that come in a box... just bad. They don't offer bread and the only salad choice was Kale based. So we only had entrees.... I think they need to expand the menu and get their act together. The staff seemed very nice.
Fantastic restaurant in the Berkshires! Great value and very tasty options. We started with the kale and beet salads (yummy) and had a delicious striped bass for the main course. The ambience had a fun and contemporary vibe and our server was awesome. We sat in the bar side of the restaurant and loved it!
There were not many choices in Great Barrington/Berkshires on OpenTable, and I picked this one without much research, but it was a fantastic choice, and our local airbnb hosts said it is likely the best restaurant in GB. Our hosts suggest we try the popcorn, pickled onion rings, and kale salad to start and they did not disappoint (she also recommended the Fish Tacos but they were not on the menu that evening). I had Scallops Risotto and my wife had the a vegetarian dish - chickpea panisse, I think. Both were excellent. The menu is relatively limited, but offered great choices between beef, fish, chicken and vegetarian options. Great service, and a nice open atmosphere. Definitely a place to return.
Realize new chef but menu has very limited selections! Food was excellent and creative!
Can run up a sizable bill in an ambience which is only fair! Find the bar much more attractive and cozy! Intake at front of house extremely dour! Service staff much more pleasant and accommodating!
This visit was a mixed experience for our party. The appetizers were all good, as were the hangar steaks, which two of us had. But the one vegetarian option was not good at all - it didn't tie together at all, the flavors didn't go together and part was hot and part was cold. Less than half was eaten. Restaurants like this need to offer at least two vegetarian options and they need to be prepared with the same care and attention as meat and fish dishes.
Very disappointing experience. We were the only customers as it was 5 pm on a Friday. The menu was limited and the portion size was suited for a toddler. The quality of the dishes was high, but there was not enough to eat. My friend ordered the steak entree for $28, and 2 thin slices of steak 4 inches long were presented to him. He spoke to the server and the chef sent 2 more slices of the steak over to our table. We will not be returning.
Lovely ambiance and a small but creative menu based on local and seasonal ingredients. We appreciated that when a large group was seated next to our table for two, the waitress asked if we would like to move to a quieter table -- which we were very relieved to do. The kitchen split our shared entree onto two plates without being asked. Only quibble: no salt and pepper on the table, no offer of fresh ground pepper for the risotto (which was pretty bland and definitely in need of both salt AND pepper), and when we asked for pepper, we were given just a tiny pepper shaker, still no fresh ground. For such an upscale restaurant, they should do better! No bread nor offer of bread either. Shared appetizers were delicious, especially the pickled fried onions. (Way better than they sound.)
Visited Allium a year ago for the first time. Great, imaginative cuisine, loved the deviled eggs. A year later, new chef, limited menu, no deviled eggs. Service is still good, but the cuisine is not what we expected. Will monitor their menu to decide whether or not to visit next year.
The food was delicious, as was the wine. However the portions were too small for the amount of money paid. 3 scallops and some veggies was $30...
Fine if you're ok with spending a little extra money. Small portions, get appetizers. Beautiful ambiance, kind staff.
We had a very nice experience at the restaurant. It was our anniversary and staff acknowledged the occasion as we were seated which was a good touch. The menu was interesting. While my just ended up being a bit more bland than I had hoped, the chicken was perfectly cooked. My wife had the fish which was better. My feeling was that we just picked the wrong dish but that overall the food in this restaurant was carefully conceived and prepared. We had a very good experience and would go back.
