Alley Cat Oyster Bar
We always have a wonderful time here!
Great position on the river amongst the vibrant Flats area. Cocktails well made and good wine list. Starters of oysters and shrimp cocktail as fresh and delicious as expected. Mains of halibut and tuna were good but a bit over embellished. The sea bass our preference had run out earlier on this Sunday night. They made up for this by offering a free dessert. The baked Alaska was excellent. Service was a bit patchy but overall a very pleasant evening with a fabulous sunset to round it off.
Overall excellent ambiance and meal
It was a celebration over a house closing. Everything we ordered was incredible.
Great food, great service made for a great night. !
Lovely view of the river. Delicious food served artfully arranged. Wonderful selection of oysters. Various options for both appetizers and meals to both share and enjoy. Definitely a must for the flats dining experience!
Alley Cat Oyster Bar is always a fun, casual - or dressy casual - place for a great meal and superb drinks. My husband and I have been many times for appetizers and drinks at the bar, but also for nice sit-down dinners. The service is spot-on: not too fast or too slow. The food is fresh, creative in a casual way, and absolutely delicious. On this visit, my husband and I started with lightly battered and barely fried calamari; it was tender, light, and had great accompaniments. Next four oysters - a drop of red wine vinegar and chives perfectly accompanied these fresh yummies. As to entrees - I can not even tell you how much better ACOB's lobster roll is than anything I've ever eaten in Massachusetts or Maine. Soft, buttered roll with an obscene amount of butter-poached lobster meat, light dressing with an interesting fennel bulb and celery slaw on top - and Old Bay fries! (OK, to be honest, I hate fennel and didn't eat it - which in no way diminished my enjoyment of this fantastic dish) My husband had the seafood quesadilla and pronounced it "Amazing". Our table was next to the open doors overlooking the now clean Cuyahoga River - boats, kayaks, and jet skis going by. Top-notch food and fun; keep up the good work, Alley Cat!
The hostess who answered the phone the night before was extremely sweet and took the time to explain the brunch menu and offered to reserve for us the next day. When I arrived not sure if it was the same young lady but the in person hostess was equally impressive, very welcoming and polite. I enjoyed the view of the water from the patio. The food wasn't bad. Sometimes the service is more important and in this case I have no complaints about that. :-)
Great selection good drinks great view crab claws great salmon and oysters all good
This was our third time there and the best food we've had!
Food was great service was as well but very noisy. Some of my party could not be a part of the conversation due to the noise.
Really loved alley cat. The food was good but nothing I’d rave about. We got the lobster Mac and cheese and the lobster roll. Again, both were good but I don’t come here for the food, I come for the beautiful seating by the river. We went on a perfect night. The oysters I got were delicious (so I guess they definitely excel in their specialty). The service was really great too. 4 stars overall!
The food is great as is the atmosphere. Sitting outside along the water with great views, can't be beat in Cleveland. The service on the otherhand is very poor. It took a long time for a waiter to even come to our table then he never even offered to get us more drinks. He was slow an inattentive. It's become the norm at Alley Cat- Great food. Great views. Terrible service.
I had a great experience at alley cat! We got oysters, mussels, and split a lobster roll and it was more then enough food. Our waiter was attentive and the atmosphere was very enjoyable! I will be back!
Excellent experience. Food was divine. Our server was adorable. We sat outside with a view of the river. Everything was wonderful. Would go again.
The lobster roll was terrific and the key lime pie to die for. Lovely ambiance with great view of the river, and many boaters. Beware of sitting in the outside patio when a train goes by. Can't hear a thing over the roaring of the train-cars.
We brought former Clevelanders with us. Each was very impressed with the location, the food and the service
Yes, because I love to the food and atmosphere, but what a bummer our service turned out to be. It was my birthday and we called ahead for our reservation and to have a few apps on the table when we got there. We didn't sit down until about a half hour after our reservation and no apps. Drinks took forever to come out, food orders were wrong, it was just a little bit of a nightmare. But food was really good and it's fun to be by the water- just wish you could count on the service- especially for special occasions!
Awesome food, awesome ambiance, awesome view! Thanks for a great experience!
Great atmosphere and food, okay service.
Food was good, service was good. Nice outdoor seating area.
Great spot - especially in the summer. Patio was crowded and views can't be beat in Cleveland. Food was superb as well.
Best lobster roll I ever had!! Thanks!! I’m from NJ and wish I lived close enough to have it again!!
We were greeted by a friendly hostess who asked whose anniversary we were celebrating. I took this
as a good sign, sadly she had us seated at a table next to the bar which was so loud there would have been no way to have a conversation. We asked to have our table changed and a better table was found. Why did we have to ask? Our server was good, food was good. We did not order dessert but no acknowledgment of a celebratory token dessert on behalf of the restaurant was delivered...disappointing. Zack B. your team almost got it, but could have done better.
Awesome service and food was delicious!
This was our first time and we tried a few appetizers and entrees, along with a dessert. Everything was wonderful.
The saving grace was the oysters and the clams were good. The trout was terrible (almost sent it back) and the lobster in the lobster roll was over cooked and had way too many herbs on it. I believe tarragon was in both dishes and is a strong herb that needs to be handled lightly, not thrown over the entire dish.
Service was good.
Our food was very average and I felt rushed to finish it. The waitress came by many times asking if we were finished and at one point grabbed my plate and I still wasn't done. I won't be back.
Great food and drinks. The setting is beautiful!! Our waiter Djamial was awesome!!
It was ok. Nothing great-the service was very unprofessional and the foos was just ok. I wanted to try it but probably wouldn’t go back. There are many better places to eat in Cleveland.
Alley Cat was unimpressive for the food compared to the cost. You are really paying for the location.
Poor value for food, very average cuisine but great atmosphere and wine list
The food was excellent, but the service needs much improvement. Also, my husband visited the restroom and he said he was dirty. Not good for a restaurant.
Sitting outside on a sunny afternoon by the water sipping the house Pinot Grigio was very relaxing. Prices are better at lunch, but our dinners were perfect. The shrimp appetizer was amazing as was my lobster roll for dinner. We look forward to coming back to try some other items on the menu. Our waiter was nice but distracted. We had to call him back after he took our order so we could order our drinks. Then again, when he brought back the credit card because there was no place slip to sign. He hadn't run it through at all.
I've been in love with this place since my first visit. Food selection for everybody and service is great. Even learned some history from our waiter! Your opening up the roof for use of the porch was a key idea! We took our business upstairs and didn't leave for another hour! Great place!
We had a nice meal but the wait was INTERMINABLE!! We arrived at 7 and were served entrees at 8:45!!! Also the week before my friend had a birthday there. They were given a lovely complimentary dessert
We were NOT. it was a BIG birthday celebration
Fun, lively atmosphere. Multigenerational spot. Good for a date or a family dinner, We have been here for a summer, week night dinner and for New Year’s Eve. Love it.
We took our out of town friends to have a nice meal on the water. The location and view from our table were fantastic. Two of us ordered a dozen very pricy oysters to share for an appetizer. What a disappointment, when some of the scrawniest oysters I have ever seen appeared on the plate. On the other hand, the deviled eggs were very tasty, but who serves 5 halves to two people (one of my pet peeves - who serves three to four people, five to six, four to three, etc.)?
Then we realized how little our waiter knew about the menu - he could not recommend a favorite, explain the subtleties of one dish versus another, or suggest a wine to go with our fish entrees. In fact, after I ordered a bottle, the waiter returned to confirm our order, bringing a wine list that we had not been presented with previously. Dinner was served shortly thereafter, and the manager arrived almost immediately to ask how our meals were (how would I know, without having taken a bite?). When I mentioned that we were waiting for our wine, he disappeared, never to be seen again. The fish entrees were good (Walleye quite tasty, salmon pretty good, tuna just ok), so thank goodness for the fabulous sunset and river view.
Fo a high end Zach Bruell restaurant, Alley Cat was disappointing.
Enjoyed a fantastic birthday dinner.
Great fun to be along the river!
