Located in the heart of downtown State College, our newly restored space offers an honest, no-fuss menu featuring modern American cooking. The bar program features classics-inspired craft cocktails and a thoughtfully curated biodynamic wine list including plentiful wines by the glass.

Located on the second floor of Hotel State College, an iconic corner of hospitality in the community, the Grill has offered the community and alumni one of the grandest views of town and Penn State through floor-to-ceiling windows for more than 40 years. Thoughtfully restored and reimagined by new owners, Chef Karen Nicolas and the team set out to re-establish the Allen Street Grill as the epicenter of the downtown dining scene with a focus on local, quality ingredients and great hospitality.

Excellent food and service, great location—but because of the acoustics the noise level is painful if you sit near the front of the restaurant. Ask for a table in the back.

We had a fabulous anniversary dinner on a Saturday early evening. The Allen Street Grill has a great selection, and as my wife and I eat pescatarian/vegetarian, having a special selection catering to those diets was a big plus. I savored their mushroom risotto, which was delectable. My wife enjoyed her vegan cous-cous, which had just the right amount of spiciness. Both dishes were large enough portions to satisfy. We were seated on the second floor sunporch, which offered lovely views on the sunny day we were there, while keeping us cool and out of the heat outside. And great kudos to our server Kip! He was welcoming, had wonderful suggestions for our palate tastes, and helped make our experience even more enjoyable.

We had an outstanding dinner last night, along with pre-dinner drinks. Nate made an excellent Old Fashioned, and Chad was a great sever, helping us with our starter, dinner, wine, and dessert. Our Chilean Sea Bass dinner was terrific!

The ever popular cooked to perfection filet mignon, with mushrooms added, has been inexplicably removed from the menu. And, in its place as the only steak option is a Ribeye au Poivre at $68. I made the mistake of ordering it, and all I can say is that all of the “poivre” (pepper) in the world couldn’t disguise the tough 2nd rate steak that they served. Hard to cut, and hard to chew, and drowned in what reminded me of A1 Sauce, only sweeter. But the worst thing was that it was topped by two crossed 6”x1” roasted peppers that were so (spicy) hot that one bite brought tears to my eyes. I had to order a dairy based dessert ASAP mid meal to calm my burning mouth down. I’m not overly sensitive to spicy food, but this was downright painful. The waiter said that he’d been told that maybe one in 12 of the peppers hadn’t been deseeded and was very hot. His suggestion was to try the OTHER Pepper... There was no advance warning, no apology, and nothing comped (although I didn’t ask). The Caesar salad that I ordered, and the fire-extinguisher mousse I’d ordered to put out the hot pepper fire were both quite good, and I had a bite of my dinner companion’s sea bass was also quite good.
