Located in the heart of Montclair, Allegory is The MC Hotel’s signature restaurant and bar. Upon arrival, guests immediately encounter the innovative design of high ceilings and curated art pieces meant to evoke feelings of being in an art gallery. With a focus on high quality food and beverage, much of it based on traditional pub recipes, the restaurant offers a menu with something for everyone. Allegory proudly boasts beer and handcrafted cocktails from local companies and is home to a diverse wine program from old and new world regions.

    I went for my birthday and was very excited but the website allowed me to make a reservation at 11 when the staff mentioned over and over various staff members that the kitchen closes at 11:15 and we felt extremely rushed and unwelcome. When we first got there the first person we spoke to acted as if we were in the wrong having a reservation at that time and we had to talk to three different staff to even sit down. I was very upset because if they had called asked me to change it to earlier I would have I simply didn’t know. I thought 11 was a good brunch time and it was an available time to book. The sever kept rushing us and it ruined the time as I felt uncomfortable. I think the website should be fixed to not allow reservations at that time to avoid this in the future.

    We had a fabulous meal! The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was delicious especially the steak sandwich. Great selection of both mocktails and cocktails. It’s a great spot for a date or catching up with friends.

    It was nothing like how it was marketed. We asked to sit in what clearly seemed like the restaurant section, but were told it was closed off. However, they seated two other people there, which felt a bit rude and inconsistent. The overall vibe felt more like a hotel breakfast than the “brunch spot” it appeared to be online

    Great location. Comfortable. Quiet. Food wasn’t great. My wagyu burger fell apart (partly because the bun was stale?) and was undercooked.

    I visited Allegory for an early dinner with a friend, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The food lacked flavor and was overall very bland—we both ended up leaving most of our meals on the plate. The dessert tasted like a pre-made frozen product, which was really underwhelming. Service was another letdown. Our server was barely present throughout the meal, except when taking our orders and rushing us to decide on dinner faster than we would have liked. On top of that, service was slow, making the whole experience even less enjoyable. And our bill for a 2 persons dinner with drinks was over $200… it’s frustrating to pay that much for a dinner and not get to enjoy it. Sadly, given the lackluster food and poor service, I wouldn’t return or recommend this spot. There are far better dining options out there.

    Best service in New Jersey! These guys have the right attitude. Ambience simple but elegant. Location perfect. Drinks were not skimpy.

    This definitely is more of a hotel dining experience than a restaurant. Service was fine, food was good. Smaller setting with few tables for 4.

    The good part is the service team was friendly. The bad part is the food was inedible, took over an hour to arrive, and the restaurant still charged for the uneaten, wrongly prepared, and inedible food. Perhaps a bad day for the restaurant team, but a challenge to find a recommendation above 0 stars.
