All Spice – San Mateo
Nice place! Very unique 'spices' style, like the venison in new autumn table, fit with the spices wine perfectly!
We dinned several times at All Spice and liked the place very much. This time the food was bad. We choose the 5 course dinner, and were very disappointed. One of the dishes had some chips that were so hard that you nearly broke your teeth. The prawns were not deveined. The so-called Gnocchis were just deep-fried mashed potatoes formed like worms. We were so disappointed that we did not want to eat the desert. Very expensive and very disappointing.
Superb, innovative dishes served q
Great fine. Charming little house with very good food. Interesting menu, 3 or 5 courses. Very nice service. Ask for a table in the front room but not near the door.
Such a charming dining room. Amazing & surprising flavor combinations in beautiful presentations.
The wine pairings were perfect with each dish. Quiet attentive service with knowledgeable explanations.
Always such a treat.
I was disappointed. The food is okay at best. Not flavorful, on the sweet side, a lot of fruit as garnish. Perhaps high end south Asian food is hard to achieve. I was extraordinarily disappointed. Perhaps they’d have more success if they stuck to their roots.
Mushroom dish was unpalatable. Steak and venison were cooked well. Again nothing that was a WOW! Mediocre at best.
Clean and quiet place. Very friendly staff. Food quality and ingrediendts are excellent - and so is the presentation. Dessert was too good. Overall a great experience.
All Spice is a special place...charming and cozy but private dining experience. The combinations of flavors are only surpassed by the presentation of the dishes. The fixed price selections make it a fun way to dine and taste several dishes...small enough to enjoy everything, but satisfying enough to feel like a completely exquisite meal.
This is one of my favorite places to dine with my husband or to bring other foodies who enjoy a quiet place for conversation, good and knowledgeable service, and fine dining in a charming atmosphere.
I love love love the food at All Spice! It’s as good as any Michelin Star restaurant I’ve been to. The one and only place on the Peninsula where you can get high caliber cuisine and not have to drive into SF. It’s a tiny restaurant, I wish it was bigger so tables were more private. But I love the cozy charm of the old home and the funky decor. The service isn’t always amazing but the wait staff is friendly and not overbearing. Our favorite spot!!
I emailed and called but did not receive anything back. First and foremost, I’ve worked in the service industry for years but have never received such off service myself. The hostess got us a bottle of wine and seated us promptly, took our water order, and left. The server came to our table with water, dropped both bottles unopened at the table, and walked away. 20 minutes later, he returned and said “what do you guys want”. I was here celebrating my birthday and my boyfriend and I looked at each other confused and the server said “sorry. Any questions.” We said no, ordered, and he left. We then ended up dining for over 2.5 hours because the service was wildly slow. He came out once to say “small kitchen” and walked away again. Spending $400 on dinner should be accompanied with excellent service. I hate to leave a bad review, as the food was absolutely impeccable but overall, my experience was quite infuriating.
Always the best!
Great food - great experience!
As always an amazing experience
Some of the most innovative cuisine and dining experience in the Bay Area
Would highly recommend for a special occasion, date night or to impress your clients
One of the very best restaurants for interesting, sophisticated menu selections...perfectly presented on varied and artful serving dishes. We think it beats the most expensive competition hands down!
All Spice continues to be a wonderful dining experience! The food is inventive, flavorful, and delicious. The service is always personal and attentive. It is a wonderful gem!
Missed the Indian inspired dishes!
The quality of the food was great. One note, an error, one of the entrees I received contained a dairy ingredient after I was told that it was a dairy free entrée. It would be helpful if the restaurant could note on the menu which entrees can be modified without dairy. All in all, it was very good.
Great service and food! We did the five course menu, and we enjoyed every single bite! Highly recommend!
Birthday celebration with the girls. Excellent service, not rushed. Food is not only delicious but beautifully presented. Love this place and can’t wait to come back
Our choice for best food, best service, best ambience for a restaurant on the Peninsula.
Three or five course choice of prefixe menu.
Highly recommend this restaurant.
Loved the food, as always. The new to us concept of 3 or 5 courses was ok, took just a little longer to choose what we wanted.
Elegant and delicious. Gorgeous presentation. Very expensive.
Lovely flavors, innovative and bright. Food for every tast including vegetarian, which I do appreciate!
We always have wonderful experience at All Spice. The food is fresh, delicious and unique. We will of course be back!
Very inventive and delicious food. Third time we've eaten here and always impressed. Spring onion soup was exceptional. For the price, the fixed price meals are a bargain with the 3 course being $75 and the 5 course being $115. We chose to have one first course and two entree courses, skipping the desserts. Compared to what you pay at places like Manresa, Single Thread etc, the individual dishes are equal in quality albeit you are getting less food for the entire meal (no 9 and 10 course meals) but that suits us just fine.
Will you believe if I’ll tell that was awesome?
Well, you have to try..because THAT WAS AWWWWWEEEESOME!
Food was so delicious and filled with flavor and so wonderfully presented! We’ve been here multiple times and it didn’t disappoint this time!
Third time to All Spice. Excellent. Inventive. Authentic. Fit for Foodies, with a comfortable and intimate dining environment. Service top-notch as well. Go!!
We had a fantastic meal prepared by chef Sachin Chopra. The service was impeccable. A tad expensive but worth every penny.
All Spice is our go-to foodie, special-event place. The food never disappoints and the service is amazing. I love following Sachin’s culinary tangents. Shoshana’s greeting is like a big warm hug/ therapy session every time we walk through the front door. Most of the servers have been there over 5 years which tells you a lot. Just celebrated another anniversary there tonight.
always a pleasure from every angle! the food and its presentation are always a feast for the eyes and soul
then there is the warmth and service - all of it makes for such a wonderful evening.
don't let the location firm the wrong impression - it can be hard to find, but so worth it!
Best fine dining in San Mateo County and worth the destination run from anywhere in the Bay Area.
This restaurant is an absolute gem! The service is phenomenal the chef is creative the menu is always changing. The tasting menu is a great value! This is a perfect special occasion restaurant but it’s priced so that you could go there once a week if you wanted to. I highly recommend it!
Eating at All Spice is an adventure in fabulous flavors and exciting combinations of ingredients. Many of my guests have been blown away by the experience and have said that "this is my new all time Favorite"I have eaten there many times and each time my anticipation is at the same level as it would be if I were going to one of the more famous three starredrestaurants in San Francisco or Napa Valley
Difficult to find, but worth the effort. It has an El Camino Real address but is actually down an alley off El Camino, where you will find free and adequate parking. The venue is a small Victorian house and the dining rooms are small which would make for a quiet meal and did until a table of four very loud people was seated next to us. Still, the food was really good and the service was excellent. We had ala carte items rather than the prix fixe, but we will try the prix fixe next time. This is a great addition to the Peninsula, which suffers from a dearth of good restaurants like this. It was worth our drive from San Francisco.
Fantastic restaurant! Amazing food, lovely Chef and owner! Prices were phenomenal!
An ideal restaurant for a business - or any - lunch. Excellent in all aspects. I especially enjoyed the mushroom soup. For a 3 course lunch, including gratuity, it is a bargain. I live in Paris where I lunch at least 2 if not 3 times a week. I would choose All Spice if it were in Paris, too! One doesn't expect a high standard in San Mateo or SFBA. My guest and I will dine soon as the dinner menu is different from the lunch menu.
Excelent food. Delightful experience. Wonderful wine menu.
This was our first time for the restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The beef and fish were both very good and the appetizers were also good. We finished the evening with a chocolate dessert which was delicious. We will definitely be coming back.
