Wonderfully cooked and beautifully presented dishes. Very attentive staff.
Each dish was either Luke warm or cold. Quality good but not
Shoshana and her husband are a delightful team! Cooking all day so that when 5:00 rolls around the place smells amazing and they are ready for the customers!
We have gone here a few times and always the food is spectacular.
I love that a Micheline star restaurant in my backyard with great parking!!
All around a wonderful experience. My favorite parts were being greeted at the door and the cozy ambiance and decor.
Always a great dinner here. Very inventive cuisine and perfect service. Plus the very friendly owner/hostess!
Every time we dine at All Spice we are in awe. The food is creative, the ambiance is wonderful and we love it .... every time. Thanks
I actually don't want to write a review because I'm afraid that once everybody learns how great All Spice is, I won't be able to get a table! Everything here is great; food, service, ambiance. Going there is a special treat. Hard to believe that food could actually be cooked so well. The menu doesn't do service to the tenderness and flavor of every single. Even the wines they offer are remarkably good. This deserves all 5 stars. But please don't tell anybody!
Always a wonderful experience here. The dishes are creatively prepared and delicious.
We love this restaurant, it is our favorite in San Mateo. They prepare food masterfully and with such care you can taste it in every bite, the chief is amazing, staff is professional and explain every dish. This is a restaurant everyone should experience!!!
Needed a spot for a business dinner and this worked out perfectly. All guests enjoyed the ambiance and the food. Service was excellent despite restaurant being busy. Food was great and vegetarian guest had plenty of choices. Favorites were the Fritter appetizer, the Kulfi ( never had it before but it. Was amazing) and the pork belly main course. Will definitely come back for business and personal. Only issue I have is same with all nice restaurants—wine is grossly marked up.
This is such a great find It’s friendly and comfortable and offers excellent service but the high point is the food. We both had tasting menus. I’m a vegetarian and the chef didn’t blink an eye in adjusting the menu. Each dish was super imaginative and complex, well considered and beautifully presented. True to their name a lot of fun tastes subtly presented. Definitely looking forward to returning.
Always a great experience with unique and creative cuisine in a quaint setting with stellar service.
Didn't enjoy the food. The egg plant dish was just boiled egg plant. Many dishes used the same onion tomato and green chutneys. :(
The fish was under-seasoned and quite bland.
We loved the variety and trying things that we have never had before. All of the dishes were excellent.
Wow! Just wow! Everything was a delicious work of art on a plate! Amazingly creative (healthy too) cuisine!!
Can’t wait for to go back!
Yummy unique
Great meal. Wonderful combinations of ingredients and spices. Attentive service. A five-star experience on the peninsula
Amazing, creative flavors to delight all! Don't miss this gem.
Really enjoyed the Branch Tasting Pairing Menu tonight. Starter: Porcini Mushroom Tea Confit shiitakes barley puffed rice paired with Canard-Duchene Champagne. 1st Course Salmon Veronique Tarragon-nutmeg mousseline, mushroom & grape reduction paired with Alphonse Mellot La Mousiere Sancerre. 2nd Course Smoky Mole Baked Black Cod, warm green papaya noodles, cilantro tom yum paired with Poet’s Leap Riesling. 3rd course Roasted Squab wine-braised pears, cabbage veil, sunchokes paired with Donelan Family Moriah Grenache Syrah. Pre dessert surprise of Vanilla Ice with puffed rice in a covered glass container. Dessert Baby Forelle Pears Yuzu yogurt vanilla brioche wild fennel paired with Chateau du Pouys Sauternes. Very healthy dishes without the starches. The branch menu is always changing depending on what comes from the farm.
Birthday celebration.
It was so creative and delicious!
We did the tasting menu. One in our party was vegetarian and they accommodated that very well. My experience doing tasting menu's at other Michelin star restaurants has been that the chef sends a few complimentary dishes and that is always exciting. However, non of that here.
Nice cozy little place, was quite and good for holding a conversation.
The service could have been better for the price.
I really liked the service that was provided. Overall, the food was delicious and I will definitely recommend All Spice to a friend.
Delicious, delightful evening!
Absolutely my favorite restaurant ever! We’ve been eating here for special occasions ever since it opened, and it has never let us down. Outstanding, innovative, delicious food with careful and attentive service.
This was our third or fourth visit, always interesting and expertly prepared.
A very disappointing experience - not sure what warrants the high ratings. We did the tasting menu. Food was well presented but every course was *very* bland. The chef seems to value producing foams, gelees and emulsions and using 10+ ingredients per dish, rather than developing deep or interesting flavors. My halibut was overcooked (mushy) - the chef added a trout course - a nice gesture but we couldn't eat it otherwise we would have been too full to eat the remaining courses (it was also odd as we had let the waiter know at the start that we did not want a lot of food). Steak course lacked seasoning. Service was terrible - waiter did not ask if we wanted more water or alcohol, suggest coffee, etc. He could also benefit from giving a smile and some warmth - very perfunctory. He noted our general lack of enjoyment of the meal and the manager took 20% off the bill. They did reasonable things to try to make up for us not enjoying the meal but I would not recommend All Spice or return, based on the consistent blandness and poor service.
My third time. Food and service are outstanding and I love the ambiance
We visited All Spice for our anniversary. The food was impeccable. The service was attentive, as expected. It felt quaint but upscale. The chefs choice/taste menu was worth it, many different textures and flavors we hadn’t tried before. As an afterthought we wished we had gotten the wine flight that went with the taste menu.
The food is always excellent, as is the service! It's one of our favorite restaurants.
We always enjoy AllSpice! I almost don't want to share it with the masses :-)
cozy little house renovated to be restaurant. We tried tasting menu, the spice combination was different than what I have had before, couple of the meals I liked better than the other, but overall very beautiful design and very creative.
One of the best meals we have ever had! We also enjoyed the fantastic service.
The food was delicious and very unusual. Great blends of flavors. We loved our dinner there and the staff was excellant.
We have been here several times now. Dinner here is not a meal, it's an experience. The chef must be a chemist who studies the taste buds because he knows how to create a symphony of flavors on the tongue. His wife is very kind and friendly as are the wait staff. What a well run operation it is. You can tell there is a lot of hard work and passion that goes into All Spice.
This was my first time and I was impressed. The food was excellent. The service was forgetful. We order appetizers and it came much much later.
We tried the butter-nut squash Steak as the main dish. There were 3-4 non-veg options but only 2 veg options. The main course was too sweet and beyond a point I just could not eat it.
Please add more veg options and make sure that it covers all taste-buds. Main course should be less on sweeter side or else it becomes difficult to eat.
I took my husband here for his 50th birthday. When I researched this restaurant I was initially disappointed by only having two vegetarian ontray choices and a few veggie appetizers. We were pleasantly surprised by our meals. The food was fantastic and our waiter was fabulous. It's a hidden gem in my San Mateo neighborhood. We're already planning on going back.
I wanted to like All Spice more than I did, but the experience was nevertheless enjoyable. The ambience is cozy - three warm, cheerful and inviting rooms inside a house set back from El Camino Real. Our server was attentive and patient. And for a Thursday night, the restaurant was filled to capacity. All pluses. The restaurant is billed as Indian in style, but I beg to differ. The chef may be Indian but his style is French-Indian-California fusion. While that's not a bad thing, on a fairly limited menu I had trouble finding items that appealed to me from their descriptions. With the server's input, I ordered the onion soup appetizer and vegetarian gnocchi as an entree. The dishes that arrived in front of me weren't what I'd expected, and yet the presentations and flavor combinations were unique and delicious, which is where the chef's creativity shines. And the homemade bread with 'designer' butter made a wonderful accompaniment, as did the marvelous chocolate mocha semi-fredo dessert. The restaurant's only alcoholic beverages are beer, cider and wine - with a nice wine-by-the-glass listing. I found their own brand of Cabernet Sauvignon enjoyable. Still, to me, All Spice would benefit from a new menu with more options to choose from. Something more is needed, and to me it has something to do with expectations. Maybe they should remove 'Indian' from the billing.
Amazing food and service. Expensive but good for a special occasion.
