They evidently need some time working out kinks in the service.
Food was delicious. Service started off sparse but got better. I think due to patrons to staff ratio, not that the very nice waiter was inattentive. The waiter was actually very personable and thoughtful. The only real issue was that we were two seated at a four top. At one point the hostess tried to sit two others at "our" table. Before I could speak up the party that they were trying to seat said "no". Of course no. And they were seated elsewhere. I spoke to that couple during brunch to say how odd that they tried seating us together. They agreed and apologized if I was offended. Very gracious and of course we were of the same mind so I was not offended. Still very odd to have put either of us in the position to say we don't want to sit with them!
The restaurant is beautiful but the food just wasn't very good.
Ambiance and service were phenomenal. Drinks were perfect. The lobster salad with champagne soaked apples was great. Now the bad: we ordered the tomahawk steak medium. Was served some really fatty pieces of rare meat. Thoroughly unappetizing. Also ordered the scallops. They had a fishy smell and were meh.
We would definitely go back - to the bar. Pass on the food.
The evening started off very well. We were promptly seated, our order taken, and our first course arrived in a timely manner. We were then asked if we minded waiting a bit for the second course. "It will give you time to enjoy the wine," we were told. It seemed a bit odd to us considering that we were the only people in the entire restaurant. The wait turned out to be way too long and the food, when it finally arrived, was tepid, not hot. After that the wait staff literally disappeared. There simply was no one in the dining room. My husband was on the verge of getting up to pour more wine himself when I spotted the hostess. I had to call her over to do the honors. The bread, butter, and water were never replenished. The waiter later explained everyone was in the kitchen tasting the new menu. Obviously, his explanation was unacceptable to us.
The ambiance is great for a date night. Very chic and cozy in the booths and the service was wonderful. The wine was ok (we tried 4 reds on their by the glass list). The food was good but not what I’d expect at those prices with all of the other high end restaurants in DC. While the lamb and ox cheek both tasted good, the presentation was lacking as everything was just brown and soft. I would have loved a vegetable served with it, some color, and some different textures. The peanut bar was delicious for desert.
This was my first time dining at the newly remodeled restaurant. The room is as lovely as ever, the food was excellent, but the service was outstanding. I ordered an octopus appetizer and discovered it was a bit heavy on olives (a taste I simply don't care for). My colleague ordered the same thing and devoured it. When a waiter stopped by to ask if everything was alright I relayed that as a result of my own ignorance (i.e., not reading the menu carefully) I didn't care for the dish. I also told him I'd be happy to pay for it and not to worry about it. Instead, they remade the dish without the olives and brought it back out. Totally unnecessary, but greatly appreciated nonetheless. The ox entree was exceptional and I would order it again...and again...and again. The food prices were completely reasonable and the wine markups were standard. I will absolutely return.
Icelandic Cod was superb. Orange Lady cocktail hit the spot. But what we loved most was the hushed atmosphere, the superb service and the sophisticated European vibe. Nice lunch spot.
Beautiful Setting but Not Vegetarian Friendly
This is a stunning and beautiful restaurant with impeccable service. Rather pricey in my opinion and the food selections were not particularly innovative. Traditional man fare - meat on just about every option. I had to request a salad without meat which seemed to puzzle the server a bit but they were very accommodating. But if you are a vegetarian or vegan, I would go somewhere else.
St. Regis staff and food was great on new year's eve! We were two couples with two toddlers and the staff was extremely patient and courteous. 5 course food was delicious and the staff customized the pre fix menu to cater to some of the diet restrictions. Glad to have spent New Years eve at St.Regis.
We went for New Year's Eve. The menu was superb, very reminiscent of France, as one would expect in a Michelin-starred restaurant. The service was impeccable. There were several children there, but happily they were very well-behaved. And the food was innovative and delicious, in just the right portions. Magnifique!
We tried to have Christmas Eve dinner at the St. Regis. The service was pleasant, but the food totally unacceptable. The Beef Cheeks looked like black blobs and had absolutely no taste. The mashed potato concoction was equally tasteless and very watery. None of us would eat it. We were compensated with a steak after a long wait. by that time no one (we were 5) was hungry anymore. The dinner put a big damper on ourChristmas Eve, we had expectations of an elegant and tasteful meal. Needless to say, we will never go back.
Food and service was great. A lovely day however, One thing that really annoyed us. 20% service was included on the bill but no one told us until after we had paid. That was bad manners. They did rectify it after we notice but ruined the the afternoon.
Overall quite good, but failing to offer to decent a two hundred dollar bottle of Cote de Rhône is rather weak. Had some substantial sediment in my last glass. All natural, but still. Please remedy that
I'm surprised there isn't more business at this restaurant. The food is great, the setting beautiful. The service was a tad slow on the mains but very attentive otherwise. A good choice when looking for a last minute reservation, when others are booked up.
Food was good, and the place is beautiful, but definitely overpriced. $18 for a Caesar salad? Come on, guys.
An elegant, well served dinner, thank you, The restaurant is a bit close to the lounge so cocktail hour gets some spill over noise. Other than that, elegant but comfortable space, attentive staff and delicous food.
Their service was among the best, love it. The chef's tastings are great value.
Amazing service beautiful dinning room excellent
Gourgeous historic dining room, tranquil atmosphere and beautifully prepared food. Gentle jazz music being played made it the Best Brunch in D.C.!
The ambiance of the restaurant was beautiful and the service was very good. The setting is great for a romantic evening or a night when you want a quiet place to have a lovely conversation. I ordered the snapper and although there was good flavor, I thought it was overcooked and a bit tough. For $32 entrees, the fish should be cooked perfectly.
The bunuelos for dessert were good but not mind-blowing. The cheesecake was very light and airy.
Lovely service. The staff is friendly and wonderful. Beautiful ambiance, music, and decor. My husband's steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Lots of fruit flies which was a turnoff. Despite that, we will def go back.
Stayed at the hotel for our 10th anniversary. The only person who knew that it was our anniversary was Melanie at the check-in, so she must have told the restaurant of our impending arrival. We had a wonderful vegan (and additionally for me a gluten free) dinner. They brought a fantastic dessert with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate on the sorbet. The wait staff was top notch and really cared. This was really one of the most pleasurable dining experiences (as well as a stay at the hotel) that I've ever had in my life.
After sharing a bottle of wine, we had little inclination to further imbibe at the bar located just outside the restaurant. But the bar is my favorite in the world (we've been to it a few times in the past) as it is beautifully appointed, excellent lighting, quiet so you can have a conversation with your companion and the waits staff is attentive, yet leave you alone to yourselves when necessary.
I was totally impressed with the Hotel and staff tentative to detail. Our meal and service match the premier atmosphere of the hotel. We are certainly looking forward to our next visit. Well done.
Poor food quality, not the St. Regis experience. Not many tables present for dinner, so there was no excuse, especially for the price. This was supposed to be celebrating a special occasion for our group and the experience really ruined it for us. With that said, waitress was very nice and the food quality seemed to be out of her control.
I was very disappointed. I ordered the 48 hour short rib. It was not a short rib, it was a sliced up cut of sirloin that was also like rubber. I did comment and did not finish the meal. It was removed from my bill. The food was not what I would expect. The restaurant is beautiful and the wait staff are great, they just need a new cook.
Decanter made my graduation celebration so special. In addition to delicious food, the waiters went above and beyond. I'll definitely recommend to friends and family!!
My wife and I recently took out-of-town friends to Decanter on a Saturday night. We had been there four years before and liked the atmosphere and food. This time, we were surprised at how the menu was limited. For example, they only had one fish entree, but numerous beef and steak dishes. We were only the third of two tables filled the entire evening. And this is on a Saturday in May.
The service was good, but the quality and quantity of food was lacking for the price. My terrine of vegetables was bland and it had a hard chip (like a nacho chip) on top.
There were extra side dishes that one could order, suggesting that this is a steak place. However, the rest of the menu, which was gourmet, did not suggest this at all. Overall, the place was nice, but the menu could stand to have more attention given to it as well as the food.
I was expecting something amazing (for the venue and the price). I ordered the Crab Cakes Benedict. The eggs were poached perfectly, but that's all I can say about the meal. The English Muffin was hardly toasted (soft to the bite and not crunch). The crab cakes tasted like they came out of VanDeKamp's frozen fish sticks box. The potatoes were tasteless and chewy. VERY disappointing.
I had the privilege of enjoying Easter brunch. Everything except the for Brussel sprouts was delicious. The price was $85/per adult. I thought that included unlimited mimosas, but I was wrong. Unlimited mimosas is an additional $25.
Lots of pomp and circumstance, but the food was a huge letdown. Simply not good. Over cooked steak too. Love the afternoon tea service in the lobby usually, this lunch was a total miss though.
Some of the worst food we've ever eaten. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and appointed. The food was disappointing to say the least
Excellent lunch here with business colleagues. Three course prix fixe offered good choices. Room is lovely and noise level is subdued, making conversation easy. Service was welcoming and generally quite attentive, though a bit less so as the meal went on. Everyone was very happy with their food choices, and the wines by the glass were terrific.
This is a good place. White tablecloth. Surprised it didn't seem very busy on a Saturday night. Possibly because it's hidden within the hotel, so there's less encouragement for locals to visit. The wine display and atmosphere made things a bit of a surreal experience. The food was very good and presented well, though they did not have a tasting menu so we spent some time looking over options. For this type of place, it was surprisingly inexpensive. It's listed as being Mediterranean, but I think it's better to call it contemporary. While there are Mediterranean inspired dishes like the octopus, there's no pita which I was somewhat missing.
Our Valentine's day experience was great. I just wish that the pre-fix menu had a variety rather than what the chef selected. In addition, knowing ahead of time instead of the time we were seated that the menu was pre selected would have been appreciated.
Beautiful restaurant. Very good service. However, menu very limited and primarily meat driven - very few fish/vegetarian options.
Loved the ambiance and interior design of the bar area and the actual restaurant however the menu lacked depth. Only 4 entrees to select from and there weren't any side offerings as stated in the menu online that I reviewed prior to attending the restaurant. Our servers were awesome, suggestive, and attentive but that was also because were two of possibly 3 other couples in the entire restaurant. I think if I return it will only be to have drinks in the bar/lounge area.
Breakfast was fabulous and the service was excellent.
However, when we returned in the afternoon for cocktails and appetizers we were ignored for 40+ minutes. We finally went to the bar to order our drinks and the bartender said he would send out a server to deliver our drinks. Instead, 20 minutes later, a server asked us what we wanted to drink and eat without acknowledging we had already placed our order. We were shocked by the lack of service and that fact that no one apologized for the poor service.
The new chef was outstanding!
