Great time on a slow night. They were gracious to still let us dine late Friday with low attendance of diners. We got to enjoy their fantastic FIsh Fry and we also got to enjoy the great music and singing of Roy from Ireland.
First time here, the Shepherd Pie was excellent, the Fish and Chips were out of this world. The piece of fish barely fit the plate.
The service was good, made you feel at home.
So disappointed in the food. Shepherds pie was tasteless and fish and chips greasy and poorly plated. I really wanted this place to be as good as the old Martins West but no. Go for a drink though.
We used to frequent this place when it was Martins West. When the new owners first took over they kept a few of the popular menu items from Matins West so we were happy they didn’t completely do away with all the awesome food they had there. This time when we went, the menu was all new and had none of the hold over items from Martins West. We tried a couple of their signature dishes and the special of corned beef and cabbage. We were so disappointed. The menu was not inventive and totally uninspiring. My husband immediately became ill right after eating and was quite sick the rest of the evening with lower intestinal issues. He’s fairly certain it was the corned beef and cabbage. My curry chicken dish was so basic and the kitchen was overcooked and dry. We feel like even the ambiance is gone and we left feeling sad and disappointed. Likely won’t be going back. So sad.
Very enjoyable experience and I would definitely visit this restaurant again. Three of my party had the Sheppard's Pie and complained it was a bit dry, but my Steak Pie was excellent. Drink prices excellent if you go during cocktail hour.
Decent Pub food, service was a little uneven. I wasn't crazy about the high top seating, little uncomfortable. Nice bar and atmosphere, reasonable prices.
The Club Chicken Curry was good - on the sweet side rather than mildly hot. The fish and chips - the fish was the size of a whale! - and tasty - good value. I liked the decor, but found the restaurant a bit on the noisy side - of course, that could be because there was a good turnout of clientele. The young waiter was fun and energetic - and he knew the restaurant's menu taste-wise! - and was appropriately attentive to our dining needs.
I've eaten there twice. Both times the service was excellent. I re-ordered the Pork Sausage and colcannon because it was so awesome the first time. Second time, didn't taste as fresh for some reason.
My friend loved her Fish but the chips she left uneaten and said she didn't like them. (??) My husband's hamburger looked great! The soda bread is yummy. We didn't have room for dessert but next time I'll make room for their bread pudding.
Love the servers!
Food was good. Waitress very nice. Was disappointed that they didn’t have the full menu, but that was my fault. Would go there again.
Old establishment. Always loved this building. New Irish fare was very classic and good. Big bar, many areas for semi-private parties.
Enjoyable atmosphere, great food and beer! The lamb shank in particular is excellent, as well the colcannon.
Love this place. This was our second visits and we'll be back.
Trivia Night was loads of fun! The food and drinks are great, the atmosphere is cozy and energetic, staff is amazing!
Delicious, classic Irish food! The ambiance and service were really excellent. Such a unique spot for Redwood City.
We enjoyed our first trip to Alhambra Irish House. The Guiness steak pie and lamb shank warmed us up on a cold evening. The soda bread that they put out at the beginning of the meal was outstanding and my wife couldn't get enough of the butterscotch pudding topped with carmel popcorn and whipped cream for dessert. Can't wait to go back with a larger group.
This is such a charming pub with true Irish spirit, bagpipes and all.
Felt like I had been invited into the owners home. Food was delicious. Onion rings and soda bread melt in your mouth.
We tried this place since we were in downtown Redwood City. I had the Irish Maid that was very soothing cocktail & my husband had beer. I ordered from the happy hour menu: guiness bbq pulled pork slider (sumptuous) and hummus while my husband ordered from the main menu: sausage & colcannon
Wonderful night out with friends. Thank you!
Brought friends to experience the fish and chips entree since we raved about it. Our friends expressed it was excellent than their normal place and has a new place for fish and chips. The other entrees we had were just as delicious. Our friends called us back to expressed how much they enjoyed the food and want to return to try the other entrees. The place was a bit louder the second time since it was the last game of the World Series but the employees and service is wonderful. We will all be back.
Okay, but was expecting better food and they were out of the IPA I waned. Did try one of there Happy Hour cocktails which was very good ,but pricey for a Happy Hour item.
This was our second time at Alhambra Irish House. The beer selection was good, the food and service were great. We had the Colcannon and sausage, Guinness steak pie and fish and chips. The portions were generous and the flavors were delicious. Our server was friendly and attentive without hovering. Dishes were prepared in a reasonable amount of time and served hot. The noise level was low when we started, but increased as trivia night began (as one would expect).
First time under the new ownership. Met the owner - Des - and he was great and very welcoming. Went with a friend and we tried the Shepard’s Pie and Guinness Stew. Both excellent. Watermelon and tomato salad very good too. Maple bacon needs a little more time to be crispier. (My opinion). Delicious Guinness on draft is hard to beat. Service is super.
My friends enjoyed the night at the pub. I would highly recommend it.
So the good news is the folks who have taken over from Martins West are well-meaning, lovely folks, and several have deep Irish accents, which enhances the feeling you are in an actual Irish Pub. Our waitress Olive was terrific, the best thing about our visit. Also meals start with some thick slices of Irish soda bread which my partner found delicious, whole grain and seeded with a nice tang of soda. (I am GF, so couldn't try it but it looked wonderful.) The not-so-good news is whoever is in the kitchen has a limited range, and evidently has not eaten out much. The menu shown on Open Table that afternoon, which is what attracted us, is not actually the menu we got when seated there that evening. The entree choices were pretty mundane (burger, fish and chips). The "Caesar salad" was a bowl of watery chopped romaine with a sprinkle of croutons and a tiny, almost indiscernible, splash of bottled dressing. It did not resemble a Caesar much at all: no cheese, anchovies, or coating of proper Caesar dressing. (I've had a lot of variations of Caesar salads, but this was not even up to Subway standards.) For $9, it was really underwhelming. My partner had Fish and Chips ($18) which he said were fine. I had a hamburger ($19) (without the bun) - it came piled high with an onion relish, cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, with a big pile of crunchy fries. They did not ask how I wanted the burger cooked, and it arrived rare, not a big problem, it was moist and juicy but personally I prefer a mid more medium-rare. They seemed quite unprepared when I asked for ketchup and mustard, but it was delivered a few minutes later in little ramekins. It was rather empty on a Saturday night, we suspect they are still finding their legs. Our overall: probably a terrific spot to stop for a drink with friends, and grab a bite if you must, but it is definitely no longer a destination meal place.
It was just me and my two kids. They were OUTSTANDING with attention and we want to go back soon.
The restaurant was still technically Martin's West at the time of dining. Martin's West had been one of my favorite restaurants, but if our experience on the final Friday night is a hint of what Alhambra Irish House will bring, I'm concerned.
Entrees were gone. Main items being pushed were sliders and Mac n Cheese, which aren't the reason you would come here. The restaurant was out of Scotch Eggs, Burrata, Shrimp, Soup, and a couple other items. Service was slow, and there were only 3 people working in the kitchen which explains the focus on simple preparation items. The subtle sauces were largely replaced by mayo based sauces.
Gone were the unique takes on Shepherd's Pie, and other savory reinterpretations that brought me back to the restaurant again and again.
Our server didn't let my wife know the shrimp weren't coming until after the meal was almost over, and we asked her not once but twice.
The only silver lining is the drinks, although very slow to come out (we would have ordered a 2nd round if they were faster), were exceptional as always.
Concerned that Alhambra has big shoes to fill in a big space if they want to be more than the bar farthest from the theater.
Food was decent and the highlight was that the reservationist helped meet my request for a secluded section as we were dining with a toddler. The waitress did not advise us at all on portion sizes and could have tipped us off that we had over ordered and instead gladly just gave us what we ordered to increase her total tip. We ordered a bunch of sliders that were NOT sliders at all and close to the size of an in-n-out burger.
Furthermore, we only ordered 2 of each kind of slider and the waitress entered 3 of each kind of slider, only adding more food that we could not finish. When I approached her to say that this is not what we ordered, she insisted that it was what we ordered. We were dining with 6+ people and everyone in our party heard me order 2 of each. That was the most disappointing of all as she did not take ownership of her own mistake which came out of our pockets. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. shame on her.
Every dish and drink was excellent. Our waiter and the support staff were all top notch.
Great staff- Jacob wonderful- food just great- love the restaurant- great place to relax. A real favorite.
We were 10 that most of us was our first time to this restaurant. We had a great time, we all enjoyed the food, the ambience and the service was impecabble. We recommend this restaurant and we will be back soon!
The cocktail menu is extensive, but all the cocktails are sort of one-note. All taste similar. The food is very tasty. The service is nice and friendly. Great place for a lively night out.
Celebrated my birthday here and it was so much fun! The staff was so nice and definitely took care of our table! Fun environment and great music, food and vibes!
This is a more expensive place but well worth it for the excellent food, fantastic drinks, and interesting eclectic environment.
Menus needs to be more specific on explaining better of what items consist of as far as ingredients, beer percentages and taste reviews on both beer and wine. Prices and type of rotating tap on hand was not presented by our server. Over $100 for beers and light fare. Very over priced but good food!
We would come back now that we have an idea of pricing and to ask first so no suprises!
Just a great spot. Love to go there. Manager Jacob really wonderful to the customers. A very enjoyable place in every way.
Great food, but some of the items might be a bit overpriced including the wine.
Service slow - we didn’t see a waitress for extended periods
Our food order was mistaken and items left off
Waitress blamed on kitchen
The food that we did receive was delicious but overpriced
I'd heard such wonderful things about this place, including the food and cocktails. Unfortunately, the octopus tasted fishy and not fresh (never even knew octopus could taste that way!), and while the other dishes we had were ok, they weren't great. My "dry" cocktail was quite sweet. I'd probably go back for the oysters at happy hour and have dinner elsewhere. Since it was Monday, maybe that's why the octopus was bad, but yuck!
The food is outstanding - so is the ambience. It is often too loud to have conversations without having to scream at each other. I have been there several times - service times are fluctuating... sometimes it is stellar, other times it is *very* slow
