Alfonso's Mexican Restaurant
I thoroughly enjoyed my chicken mole enchiladas.
The owner was a very nice man who greeted us upon arrival and walked us to our table. We reserved a spot outside and it was set up and ready for us upon arrival. Chips and salsa arrived shortly after. The waitress was very nice, but after saying we needed more time before ordering, she didn’t come back. We had to go and find someone to help us so we could order and eventually a different waitress took our order. Besides that, everything was top notch. Pleasant atmosphere, incredible food, great tasting drinks...highly recommend!
Food was good, but not spectacular. Both the fish and shrimp tacos were so runny with a thin sauce, that they were hard to eat. Topping had good flavor, but overpowered the taste of both the shrimp and the fish. Salad, rice, and beans where also good, but nothing special. The margaritas were excellent. The service was above average.
Greeted by name upon arrival by very professional, friendly staff. Could easily talk amongst ourselves during the entire meal. Food was freshly made and outstanding. Everything is very clean.
There were four of us and we all enjoyed our meals. I especially liked the Carne Asada plate. Having had it often when the restaurant was in La Jolla, I found it not as spicy as I was used to but the meat was done just right . It was a pleasant evening and we sat outside. We look forward to returning.
There aren't many restaurants where the owner comes by to check on his guests. Alphonso is there folks and he care. A really sweet guy. The musicians are not really Mariachi but the two guys are great and play in the Mariachi style. Great place for big groups. Our table (s) for 10 was great.
Beat Mexican food in San Diego. Always 10/10 for everything
Attentive staff, strong drinks, great good! Parking can be a challenge however.
Large prices for so-so mexican food. The Chile Verde Enchilada was excellent. The other two dishes we ordered were so-so.
Slow service and bad food. Sometimes it’s better but not this day.
Found our new Mexican restaurant.
Good selection and good drinks.
Also like the chips and hot sauce.
Getting better every time we come. Close to the original La Jolla vibe.
It's has a nice rustic Mexican vibe. It was just a little far from where I live.
Alfonso’s was a go to place for years in La Jolla and we are glad it has found a home on Highway 101. The food was and is terrific, well prepared with generous portions. My husband recently had a fish burrito he said was the best he has ever eaten and he has eaten many. Staff are friendly and efficient. Going there, you feel like family. It is a great place to relax and eat really good Mexican food!
Alfonso's was always a favorite in La Jolla. Fun to go to the new location and be greeted by Alfonso.
I had made a reservation for a date night with my wife on a Thursday - the restaurant was generally very quiet with a lot of empty tables. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly, and the wait staff were very pleasant and efficient. The complimentary chips and salsa were fine - the chips were thicker and a little greasy, but the salsa was fresh tasting. The food was OK, but not the best we have ever had - my Alfonso asada (I tried one chicken and one beef) was tasty enough, but my wife's Chile Verde Pork was just too salty, and the pork was not particularly tasty. Overall, value was just OK if you are in the neighborhood and wanted Mexican food, but you would not make a special trip to eat here. The service was the standout - waitstaff were generally attentive and pleasant.
Excellent as always. Best salsa and chips in town!!
The food was not the greatest. We expected it to be a lot better. My garlic shrimp where cooked in the shells i had to tear them all apart with my fingers. Was gross. Guacamole was not even ripe. The beef specialty dish looked like also. The chicken quesadilla was barely filled. And to top it off two dishes were put down handed to our party and so hot not told to our quests that one burned their fingers.
I don’t like to complain this is a beautiful place however need to step it up.
Very friendly, attentive service. Food was very good and portions were more than ample.
Place was dead on a Saturday night, service was slow, food was good and price was fair......
Excellent food and great service. We first dined at Alfonso’s in 1986 in La Jolla. Still great.
Going here since they were in La Jolla for 28!years...outstanding
And great live music
There were 6 of us celebrating the night before Mother’s Day. The food was delicious and the service was terrific. There were fajitas and burritos ordered by the group and everyone was so pleased. Alfonso’s has a long standing reputation of great food and we weren’t disappointed.
Burrito Fantastico was not as tasty as previously produced when Alfonzo’s was in La Jolla. My carne asada tacos were very good. Margaritas were great on the rocks. Service was excellent. We will be back.
Hard to find good Mexican food restaurant in San Diego.
Great margaritas and we enjoyed the Chili Relleno
As always, really great evening of good food, margarita, and fun. Nice to see Alphonso there to greet us.
Best Mexican food in town! Been going to Alfonso’s since I was a kid at their La Jolla location. It’s stayed consistent and delicious all these years!
Great food options, we had the enchiladas and loved them. The service is excellent as well.
The premier dish Carne Alfonso is completely outstanding. I have been there several times with family and no one has had a bad meal; just the opposite. La Jolla's loss is Solana Beach's gain.
Food tasted like left overs. Will not go back, tasted nothing like the food I remembered in La Jolla Alfonso’s
Food was very good and service was amazing!,
Not only great food, but best chips in town including the salsa. Definitely will return.
Meal and drinks were great.
The shrimp plates were delicious, but the other items we ordered (enchiladas and tacos) were dry and the chicken was chewy.
We had a large party and they were able to accommodate. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Our vegetarian appreciated that the veggies were seasoned and cooked and not just added. Great skinny margaritas!
Outstanding Mexican food!
Great food and friendly service! We all enjoyed our dinner. Nice atmosphere.
Great food, attentive staff and fun mariachis
