   Amazing apps with the toast, hamachi shooter and caviar.. couldn't be more impress w the service and the timing of the food hitting the table.. Had the bone in NY and two wagyu steaks that were heaven!!! Portions are a bit small for the price but left very satisfied, amazing and will be back!!

   We hadn’t been to Alexander’s in a number of years, and wanted to celebrate our nephew’s SF internship at a steakhouse. We couldn’t have been more delighted. All of the dishes, not just the steaks, were superb, and the service was spot on. We’ll be returning often!

    I am a frequent fine diner. Unfortunately, this establishment came nowhere close to meeting the bar of excellence that you expect at fine dining such as this. The service was not up to par. The dry aged steak that I ordered had so much gristle that it was hard to chew. Am I picky? Yes. But when you are paying nearly 1000.00 for a meal it should be nothing less than excellent. This was closer to a chain style restaurant quality unfortunately. I will not be returning.

    A wonderful meal to celebrate a milestone birthday as a date night. It was extremely cold in the restaurant so both of us kept our coats and scarves on. That definitely needs to improve. The ambiance could have been more interesting but it was not bad. The service and food were the standouts. Excellent staff and memorable dishes. We’re happy. Just cold!

    Took my wife to Alexander’s for a date night and I was blown away. The service, the food, and the atmosphere were far above my expectations and I can’t wait to come back. Amazing dining experience!

    I really wanted to like this place. This is where the old Baccar used to be. Greeter and hostess were very nice. Ruben the server was great and Albert the sommelier was very polite. Appetizers were tiny. Steaks were average, even the A5 we ordered, which was dry and tough. Very very disappointing. Desserts were meh.

    This was our second visit - it wasn't our first choice, but it was the only nice steakhouse that had tons of availability in SF, everywhere else was booked. Very noisy inside, service was very slow. First visit last year we had the tasting menu which was ok but not worth $251/person - they served a bunch of small bites and at the end served a huge steak - I think it was a ribeye which was very thin, I couldn't even eat it. total bill for 3 of us was $2K! I and I had one cocktail, the other person just had ice tea and the other person had 1 cocktail so I have no idea why it was that expensive. Our second visit I skipped the tasting menu but honestly the pricing is way too high, I mean $105 for pasta?! Now I know why they had a ton of availability. It wasn't very busy when we went but took them 45 minutes to get water and 2 cocktails to our table, the Manager David was rude and not helpful. This was our last visit.

    The staff was excellent beginning to end. Made our experience unbelievably memorable. We had bread, tomato appetizer, bone in filet with mashed potatoes. Taste surpassed any steak we’ve ever had. We needed to leave a bit early so we didnt have time to order dessert, but they brought us dessert anyway, i thought it was so cute. Very delicious cheese cake and the cotton candy was so special!! Special thank you to Alex, for your undivided attention ❤️

    Not your usual steakhouse, the tasting menu is excellent with variations of flavors and ingredients, really surprised to find this kind of offering at a steakhouse. Defiantly will be back if ever in San Francisco again. Excellent sommelier with excellent wine paring.

    The welcome drink was given to one of three in our party. The place is so overly pretentious- no sides given before the entree as an appetizer- only approved apps! They rearrange your cutlery if you move them. My 8 oz steak was about 4 oz. They told me a medium well would be an extra 40 minutes to prepare. I changed to medium. Wine pours are skimpy. Not worth the value at all:$650 for 3 people.

    Food was way over priced for the quality. Everything should be 30-40% cheaper for what you actually get. Would not come back. And the ribeye was too salty.

    A5 menu is a special thing. My wife and I really missed having the full 12 salts that used to be served with the plate. None the less, top notch, world class A5, amazing, even with only two salts :)

    Alexander's is undoubtedly one of the best steakhouses in SF and the greater Bay Area. The food was absolutely stellar, but what really impressed me is the top notch service. I wasn't even done taking a sip of water before a waiter was there refilling my glass. I've been to many Michelin star restaurants and have not received this level of service! Patrick was our waiter and deserves a round of applause for providing attentive and amazing service and recommendations. Definitely recommend the Uni toast, the Hamachi shots, the striped bass, and any Wagyu steak really. For dessert, the pecan toffee pudding and the chocolate flottante are out of this world. Best dinner experience I've had in awhile, and highly recommend for a steakhouse dinner!

    Had the Tasting menu, such lovely tastes and the wine pairing really accentuated the flavors of each course. The staff was very engaging but not overly so, we really enjoyed celebrating our anniversary there.

    We’ve been going to Alexanders over 20 yrs starting from the original restaurant in Cupertino. The SF location was a welcome addition and we went to both locations for several years. Last Sep 14, we had a family dinner in the SF location as a send off to our son who was going away for college. From the start, our hamachi shots took over 30 minutes (we ordered 20 pcs) and were dry. We asked for additional ponzu sauce, which took over 10 mins to be brought over. It took 40 mins to get the rest of our appetizers and another 40+ mins to serve us A5 japanese wagyu beef (which is what we order exclusively at Alexanders). When it finally came, the Wagyu was cold. These, plus My sons already commenting about the slow service put me on watch. We decided to order another round of wagyu at 9:30pm when they said the kitchen was closed. This is when I spoke to our waiter and the general manager, David Murphy, about our experience. First, 35-45 mins between apps and entrees is far too slow, and, at the minimum, fine dining restaurants ask patrons if there’s anything else they would like from the kitchen before they close. Not only was their service poor, they just closed the kitchen and left us hanging. David Murphy is also their sommelier and I had a chat with him earlier about wines as my favorites were not in their wine list anymore. We focused on Brunellos and Barolos and he suggested bottles priced above $350 without giving me options. I ordered 2 bottles of Cannubi barolo at about $200 each. I had to figure this out by myself which was fine. I just thought being the ‘somm’ and general manager, he did a poor job of helping me with the wines and maimtaining the service quality. To put into perspective, my bill that night was $1,605.00. This is typical for us but the bad experience made this poor value. I have to say it was the worst $1,605 i ever spent, given the special night I wanted it to be for us. At this point, I don’t think we will return there.

    We had a dual birthday celebration and ordered the Chefs Special for everyone with the pairings. We enjoyed every dish and had great service. We mixed the steaks so we could have variety. We were seated upstairs and the band was great. It was a bit loud because the sound echos upward.

    Surprised my wife and spent our 45th wedding anniversary here at Alexander. This place was awesome and the service was top notch. Everyone was so attentive and made our special day much more special. The food was the best that we’ve had and the dining experience was by far the best. This is definitely unforgettable. From the hostesses, mixologist, food servers, somm , and everyone that works there make Alexander 10 stars for us. Thank you for the well wishes from all of you! Thanks You!
