Executive Chef Marc Zimmerman offers a fine dining interpretation of a Modern American Steakhouse with hints of Japanese influences throughout our menu.
View Private Dining DetailsThe steak was absolutely delicious, hard to give it any other review. My only negative on the Bone In T-Bone steak would be that I prefer a steak without sauce, however this sauce was fantastic. The sides were very good, especially the Clay Pot Waygu, however awfully pricey. Three drinks, sides, steaks and one appetizer came to roughly ~$500
Worth it. Ordered the study of beef. Also a bone in between course 4 and 5. Ordered a bottle of Cab from Lewis cellars and the signature drinks were nice as well.
The food was good but for the price (over $400 for 2 people), the service was extremely lacking. When we arrived at the restaurant, our table wasn't ready and the host directed us to the bar area. We sat at the bar area, and weren't even acknowledged by a bartender for a painful 5 minutes (at least 5 minutes, it felt way longer than that). Not a "hey, I'll be right with you," or even the simple placement of a drink menu in front of us. That's all it takes, it's bartending/serving 101, and it's not a great way to set the tone.
During dinner, it took awhile to get water on the table, and I repeatedly asked for a cocktail menu and the server never ended up bringing it during the entire visit. The server was slow on asking us if we wanted another drink, so when our dinner arrived, our glasses were empty. My husband ordered a half bottle of wine and it didn't arrive until he was halfway through his $100 steak.
I've had better service at brewpubs, to be honest. The food was great, but overall, service was disappointing.
Food was good, but not worth the prices. There are other steakhouses that are better than Alexander’s.
Excellent food, amazing ambiance!
Second time going here, but my experience is basically the same as the first:
The hamachi shots are really good. The hamachi shots this time were even better than the first!
All the other appetizers we've tried weren't very good, either bland or too sweet. Missing either critical herbs or acidity.
The bread and butter were excellent.
Bad sides. The sweet onions were kinda nasty, the rainbow carrots were also far too sweet. (The first time we went the brussels sprouts were kinda burnt and overly sweet).
Great steak, although the black garlic soubise was also too sweet. (Too be honest I hate it when steak comes with sauce already on the steak).
I ordered medium rare and the outside was great and medium rare, the center of the steak was rare.
The dessert was excellent.
Cotton candy at the end is a very nice touch.
Service and ambiance were both top notch. Food could use a bit of work/polish.
the beef was excellent ! there were some options that were crazy expensive but just stick with the less expensive items and they were still a cut above the other steak houses. Sides were also yummy. The food was all top notch, you will not be disappointed.
Pricey, but well worth it
I order a 2012 wine from their wine list and they have 2014. Saying that they are going to charge same price for something is 2 y younger!!!
Had to wait often, saw material quality is very good although too heavy. Too much sauce, crumble bread, butter, blah blah...
$100 steak was tough. Amazing. Idea I have to write more to post is ridiculous. Who do you people think you are.
The best Steak I’ve ever had. So good. Only bad thing was we got out starters before our drinks. But then got our first drink comped so all good
Great meal and service
The steaks were great, Wagyu silky; the French fries though tasty with sun-dried tomatoe sauce on the side but the fries themselves were cut so thin as to be papery, should be cut fatter to give more substantiality and yield more flavor and taste. The Sumatra coffee was either over-priced at $10 or a fraud as it was very thin in flavor, like colored water. Bloody Mary was fine.
Delicious food, beautiful interior, romantic ambient lighting, and friendly service. It was such a treat dining here.
Excellent food. Service lacked attention.
The meal was absolutely amazing and the service excellent. I am currently in a wheelchair and find accommodations very hit and miss in restaurants, but they were great and found me a good spot upstairs (there is an elevator) where I would not be bumped into and which was easy to navigate to. We were celebrating our anniversary and they were incredibly sweet about that too.
Very special dinner for a special occasion. Outstanding service.
What a fantastic meal! We were a group of 5 and loved every bit of the beef served.
We had the most amazing fillet with equally good Sides. The cocktails were a great. I did not like mine and there gracious enough to switch it.
David was gracious enough o accommodate our wine request and got it right!!
Incredible service and meat!
The only thing I wasn’t too keen on was the dessert! We tried the soufflé — it was nice but after the decadent meal - I wanted a decadent chocolate finish but that could just be me :)
Steaks are no better than any other high end steak house. The menu is quite limited, and all the little touches that made this restaurant special are no longer available.
I don’t think we’ll go back any time soon.
Definitely not worth the money we spent. Service was very good though. Food was mediocre at best
The steaks were beyond good. Price wasn't horrible, but quality was excellent. Appetizers and desserts were just as good! I miss the cotton candy though, but perhaps that only happens at the Sea by Alexander which is another all time favorite. Service was impeccable as well which made the perfect evening that much more special.
Absolutely phenomenal dining experience. The blend of flavors and textures was surprisingly delightful and playful. The center piece was the beef either waygu or USDA Prime. Highly recommend for special occasions similar to our 26th wedding anniversary. We could not have had a better meal tonight.
I was looking forward to prime rib, but they were out of it even though we dined at 7 PM. We were celebrating my son’s birthday, and they did greet us with champagne on arrival. Then we waited at least 20 -25!minutes before the waiter arrived despite a lot of personnel wandering around. They had a huge selection of cocktails, many international. The edemane beans were tasty. The filet was OK, and the carrots were good but the mashed potatoes were bland and the blue lake green beans shriveled up. The carrot cake was tasteless. I had paid $15 to park in the Wells Fargo parking lot next door and found that my back window had been smashed in after dinner and the back of my car ransacked so that was disheartening. I will not return.
I expected a higher level of service from this restaurant considering how much they charge. Restaurants that offer meals at similar price points over MUCH higher levels of service. I just felt my experience here was “OK” which is not how you should feel after spending $500 on dinner. The waiter was less attentive than he should have been throughout our meal, they left out key components of the meal that we had to request twice, and I simply just do not plan to return. It was really very underwhelming.
I go there for special occasions with my sons. The service is great except for the expedited removal of plates and glasses. We lost that last sip of our expensive cocktails before we could stop the whirlwind attendant. The prime rib was awesome. Our main server was excellent and was affable.
Great meal, great service
Excellent wait staff. Rich was very attentive and food was awesome!!!
We went for our anniversary, we were treated like royalty. Impeccable service and the food was amazing! Highly recommend
This place blew my mind! The filet Mignon was out of this world I tell you. My overall experience with tasting every dish that came out to the excellent service that was provided made my night very spectacular. My boyfriend and I spent our late Valentines dinner here last night and we were very much satisfied.
I'm trying to stay away from red meats, however, when it comes Alexanders, I jump at the opportunity to dine at their San Francisco venue. Alexanders has a wide selection of aged cuts that are truly delightful with an assortment of different dining pleasures to choose from. The service is exceptional, the menu is delectable and the drinks are outstanding!
We had a lovely time and the food and wine was amazing!
Amazing experience. Customer service, the best! Food is great!
Spectacular charred wagyu, excellent porterhouse, excellent soufflé, excellent breads. A highly enjoyable, delicious experience.
Thank you so much for our Valentine's day experience. And a special thanks to our server Buckley! We will definitely be back. Perfection!
Ok food, but extremely expensive . Too muuch. 600 dollars for a diner for two.
Went to dinner with some friends for a random steak night. Alexander’s did not disappoint. We were stuck in crazy traffic on 880 and were definitely going to miss our reservation by half an hour, but we never felt like we were a burden to Yahir and the rest of the staff. We ordered steaks of varying cuts, textures, and prices. Everything was delicious. Our favorite side was the mashed potatoes. Be prepared to pay a hefty price tag, but it will definitely be worth it. We will be back for sure.
Extraordinary food and service. Highly recommend.
Cool atmosphere. Incredible service. Meat was delicious, our table shared the mashed potatoes, the carrots, mushrooms and French fries as sides. The mashed potatoes were scrumptious, everything else was okay. The only downside is the prices, particularly for the drinks- seemed grossly overpriced. Ultimately, I wouldn’t return, as I’ve had just as great food (if not better), for a fraction of the price.
Rich was great as a server. Chefs were excellent
The manager Nathan is adorable.
