The Alexander Brown building has called the corner of Baltimore and Calvert Street home for over a century, providing an epicenter of banking and business to the City of Baltimore. Centuries have passed, and Alexander Brown & Sons has since been purchased by a national bank, but the Brown family still owns the building today.
In 2019, this iconic building is opening a new chapter with a different type of commerce as The Alexander Brown Restaurant. Although banking will no longer take place within the historic walls, The A.B. will deal in the currency of conversation and community. At The A.B., we look forward to providing a historic setting for modern conversation, phenomenal food, and worldly design for guests from near and far.

I've dined here a number of times as well as coming in for drinks. The service and quality of the food is always exceptional. I love that they've preserved the history of the space while also giving it modern touches.
A beautiful hidden gem in Baltimore. My dinner was superb, but I would revisit just for happy hour, late-night cocktails or dessert just for the atmosphere.

I would mostly go here for the setting. Beautiful building. Food options are standard and expensive. Preparation is not surprising. I really liked our waitress but, for instance, they didn't have anyone available to make coffee drinks (espresso, cappuccino - our waitress said they technically could be made but she would have to make them and she had no specific training to do so) and food came out fairly slow. I enjoyed the night, so closer to 3.5 stars than 3 star for me.

In town for work and stopped in and ate at the bar. Great atmosphere and relaxing place after day of work. Drinks (Old Fashion) well made, and food was excellent, highly recommend the Crab Beignets were incredibly good.

We were disappointed to not experience a fine dining experience, given the price point. For starters, we were seated incredibly close to another table, which just made having a quiet private conversation almost impossible. And while our server was very sweet and working hard, the service fell short of our expectations. There was a fumble on every course, several items 86’d that hadn’t been shared with the server, and some important details ignored that make a difference between a good meal and a great meal. We had higher expectations for a nearly $300 meal. We were also disappointed to have been seated in the front, after walking through the back to use the restrooms. It would have been nice to have been given an option, considering it was our first time visiting and we didn’t realize there was another dining space. The food was very good, but again, fell a bit short on the value front. For $30 entrees with no sides, you kind of expect your food to be spectacular. Would like to see the restaurant invest more time in training servers and bartenders and for some of the hiccups we experienced to be addressed. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and clearly has potential, and perhaps we experienced a particularly rough night.
There's no prettier (interior) setting in Baltimore. You can spend the entire dinner marveling at the architecture and furnishings. The entrees were excellent (filet and scallops), the service was good.
First time trying the Alexander Brown. The apps (crispy rice and crab beignets) and main courses (rib eye, scallops, branzino) were excellent and fit for foodies. The sides were delicious and large enough to share for 3-4 people. The desserts were rather disappointing, particularly the Smith Island Cake which was rock hard. While overall we were very happy with the food, the service was rather disappointing. Our server did not go over specials until we asked & did the bare minimum during our service. Another server waiting on an adjacent table actually took time to speak to his tables and was kind enough to help when our waitress was MIA.
Good Food Overall. Delicious scallops and drinks., and the famous Crab Beignets. Service was good when engaged but the staff seemed stretched for a Tuesday night. Felt slightly expensive overall.
An exemplary dining experience!
We had a large party of 13 and just one waiter but every thing come out in a timely matter. We never felt unattended and gave great food suggestion. I wish I remembered his superb service and the shrimp pasta dish was amazing!
The restaurant itself is so beautiful and our server was attentive & kind. I was a little saddened that the food wasn’t better. It was good, but not great. Hoping they can kick the food up a notch :)
Food was good. Service was just OK. Server was nice and pleasant but some things came wrong. Some were late.
The service was excellent and it was lovely dining in such a unique building with historic relevance. We enjoyed each course and the cocktails were expertly made. We will definitely be back soon for another visit.
Absolutely wonderful! We had 2 starters, 2 entrees, dessert, and drinks. Our waiter was very polite and attentive. The room we were in was full but didn’t feel that way. Was not cramped or overbearing other conversations. It was a lovely time and the food was great!

Great building and history. Food was very good, sides for the meal are separate charge of 10-12 dollars. Main server was not very attentive or interested in her job.

Service could’ve been a little better server just wasn’t attentive enough nor tried to really talk about the menu. The food was okay I got the King Salmon and it wasn’t anything to really write home about I feel like the cuisine has Asian influence but really isn’t that good cocktails are amazing though bartenders know what so pour up for their guest taste. Host Renee was very professional with her follow up call about my reservation no complaints in that area. I would visit again I just hope the food gets better
It REALLY made up for the Valentine’s Day I planned last year. The food was great and my baby LOVED it.
Great food and great service. Our server Valerie was very knowledgeable and attended to us promptly. The lobster risotto was amazing!
We were seated by the front door. Every time the door opened we were hit with an ice cold breeze. We ordered the Crab Beignets and Burrata appetizers. The Crab Beignets had absolutely no flavor. Completely bland and flavorless. Notified the waitress and she said she was surprised because they just changed the recipe to develop more flavor. They failed there. The Burrata was pretty good, but was a messy slop of ingredients in a cast iron dish. For entrees we ordered the Ora King Salmon and Shrimp Bucatini. I ordered the Salmon cooked at Medium, but it was rare when delivered. The soy broth was nice and light but the salmon was relatively flavorless. The Shrimp Bucatini was pretty good, but had an overpowering lemon flavor. For dessert we ordered sorbet. Please explain to me why the three offered flavors were black cherry (?), blood orange, and lemon - it’s WINTER! Finally, the two tables next to us we given complimentary strawberry macaroons - we were not given these. Apparently those tables had poor experiences as well. Probably will not return.
The staff seemed great but our waitress left out a lot of details maybe it was her first day, forgot to mention specials for the night other waiters were on par we could over-hear them talking to other people dining. But ours was blunt and short with us
