Very quiet. Only 1 waitstaff. Only people in the restaurant, yet took 45 minutes to get food. They said they are closing down next week.
Actually great food. Wait staff so incredibly nice and helpful. 1 hour wait from ordering dinner and salad. Restaurant not particularly crowded, maybe 8 maybe 10 tables filled. Who waits for salad?
They made up for the delay with free drinks. So all was well. But we were there for almost 3 hours.
I was truly shocked by how delicious the food was. The menu was impressive. They took some old classic & revamped them wonderfully. The staff was very attentive & accommodating. I thought this was such an unexpected find that I almost want to keep it to myself!
Great food, great staff, great place!
Love the old world atmosphere with decore & music. Always have been pleased with my dinner selection . However disappointed with service. Staff turn over & lack of training????
Food was terrible. Waitress was very nice too bad the food was awful.
We really enjoyed our Thanksgiving Dinner. Plenty of food. We loved all antipasti and best part of meal was Pumpkin Pie. It was some incredible good as well cranberry sauce. Loved it.
This is a return visit here. Food is excellent -and so many choices. We got a great round table and 5 friends came. We all ordered from the lunch PRE fixe, unbelievable value. Everyone ordered something different and really, really liked their selections. I got the shrimp fra Diablo w pasta; the shrimp prepared exactly as I requested (well done). We were not rushed and the decor looked so nice, perhaps it was renovated since last I was there. We had a totally enjoyable luncheon!
The food service was well paced and our waitress was very friendly. Shrimp risotto was fantastic.
Restaurant was almost empty on a Saturday night. They seated us by the door which was totally freezing with a draft. Food was below average.
Old and worn interior with rather small area for tables adjacent to bar area. Slow but friendly service. My pasta dish was tasty; my husband's steak was chewy.
Great neighborhood dining....great food..quiet atmosphere ..
Excellent choice for a birthday celebration. Varied menu, pleasant service and good value. We were there the day after Christmas so it was especially quiet and cozy. I had been there before but it was a first for my friends. They all said they would be back
Decent meal. Service was a bad as it gets. We had to go ask for anything we wanted, i.e. bread drinks, water etc. Served the Manhattan in a water glass!
Have been here several times. Seems to be a new owner that spends his time with old friends rather than saying hello to people he does not recognize. Service was a bit confusing but okay. Reasonable value for the quality of food which was very good. Nice local place near Union Square. I would recommend.
First time visiting this restaurant. Enjoyed the food and ambiance. Will go back this Summer to enjoy the garden.
We ate at Aleo on Thanksgiving. We were on vacation and the staff made us feel at home. The food was great!
We had a delicious Thanksgiving meal and the homemade desserts were wonderful! Great four course meal at such a reasonable orice. Virtually unheard of in NYC!
Food and drink were delicious and well paced from drink and appetizer delivery to meal
Great food and very accommodating for large groups. Not too loud, so you can actually hear the other people at your table.
Great food and service!! Quiet little spot... the outside seating garden is amazing!!
Saturday night......there was one server and a busboy and helper to service the whole restaurant.....the server also doubled as the bartender......therefore the service and the wait time was horrendous! The food was mediocre at best and the restaurant itself was shabby and not clean.....we sat at a padded banquet and the upolstery was filthy.....not a good experience even with a groupon
The food was excellent. i was meeting a friend and running late. They didn't push to order right away or rush us out.
Really enjoyed the experience at Aleo. My steak was slightly overdone (medium rare when I ordered rare), but it was still very good. My date enjoyed her meal as well. It's a little pricey for what it is, but still think I would go back again.
Awful waitstaff. Very inattentive. I had to get up to get more water. I had to signal the waitress to let her know the veal chop was raw inside. Then had to grab her to let her know it had been overlooked. No apologies, no offers of wine or desert. No pleasantries.
Despite being under & then over cooked, the chop was very good. A minor incident with the manager as I was informing him of the problems. Not at all courteous
Definitely not worth a return visit
The service was horrible. Both the Waitress and manager were extremely rude. We asked for water and had to repeatedly ask before the waitress decided to serve us. The place was empty with only our table but we waited so long for the food to arrive and the food was tasteless and awful. The place also need a major renovation.
use a groupon which included 2 entrees and 2 cocktails/wine. Neither of us drank and wanted a replacement drink...we thought our drinks replaced it but to my surprised they were added to the bill. I thought that could of been an easy accomodation as we did not have alcohol which would of been a higher cost.
As usual, wonderful food and. experience. Was with my nephew who has multiple food allergies. Anthony was extremely helpful. My nephew loved his meal.
We had a group of 4 with varying eating styles and this restaurant fulfilled all our needs and wants. 2 in our group wanted lighter fare and 2 wanted the full Italian experience. All the dishes that we ordered were wonderful. We had a great bottle of wine suggested by our server. I thought the prices were in line with the experience. I would definitely recommend this place.
After reading the "story and history" about ALEO and Pietro on its website and the glowing food reviews, I felt warm, fuzzy, family feelings, I recommended ALEO to my out-of-town Italian-food-loving friend. I should have reminded myself that "if you have no expectations, you will not be disappointed". Well - I was.
The female bartender was lovely and friendly. Our waiter, who later said he was the manager, seemed like he didn't want to be there. That's what his attitude - over the three hours we dined - conveyed. When he later said "... hey, I'm out of here at 11 pm...", that confirmed that he wished he wasn't at ALEO, in a service business, a caring, family restaurant and couldn't wait to skedaddle out! Shame on him! I regret tipping him. So much for the "warm, family staff" credo.
The food? Very good quality and quantity - grossly underseasoned = blah. Had to salt, pepperize and parmesanize ourselves!
Pretty and nice ambience.
We chanced upon Aleo and we were happy we did. It is a lovely neighborhood restaurant that serves solid Italian food. The staff couldn't be nicer or more accommodating. They also have a great sense of humor!
Food was awful and so was the service, was very disappointed!
I last ate in Aleo a few years ago, and distinctly remember the charming backyard dining room. They have changed it from the Italian tiles and lots of plants + a small, typical Italian, water spout coming out of the wall to a wall-boarded dining room. THAT was very disappointing. In NYC, with it's hundreds (if not thousands) of neighborhood Italian restaurants, Aleo was unique in summer. Now it is just a neighborhood restaurant with decent food, not so good house wine, nice, attentive help and an open air dining-room. If I'm in the neighborhood, I'll eat there again. But I wouldn't go out of my way to go to Aleo.
This restaurant got very good views so me and my boyfriend were excited to go. We're both servers so we try to be very understanding at restaurants and don't cause a fuss but that was extremely hard to do here. Our appetizers took 25 minutes to arrive at our table. If it was busy I would have understood but there was only one other table in the restaurant at the time. Our dinners came out shortly after we finished our appetizers. I got the shrimp risotto and was disappointed to find that my risotto was undercooked and crunchy. We also got the veal scallopini and were very unimpressed by the salad that was lazily put on top of the veal. We both ordered drinks and they were extremely strong. My margarita was straight tequila with a little bit of lime juice. I basically took a shot with every sip. The "garden area" was also unimpressive. Just chairs placed in a little area which they decorated with christmas lights. Overall not impressed with this place. We got out of there as soon as possible. Not worth the expensive meals you'll be getting.
It was nice to be able to sit outside without a long wait. Everything was pretty mediocre though.
Someone was smoking through the entire time we were there. Hot and dark.
Food was great. Service was super slow. Nice out door seating
They were nice, they did not rush us, the food is delicious - and we got there right in time for the opening for dinner so we got to sit in the breezy open doorway... Beautiful good spirits all around. My one complaint? The four-cheese ravioli seemed like a half serving for $20... Delicious! I wanted more! Thank you for a beautiful experience.
Excellent menu of lunchtime treats
Service is woeful. 20 minutes to be seated in an empty restaurant and 90 minutes for a meal is unacceptable.
