Alegria Cocina Latina Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant was bustling and lively with attentive waitstaff and excellent food. We did not have to wait too long for our meal and the live music, mostly in Spanish, was a nice touch. Sitting outside was good because it was less noisy and actually more romantic. Definitely worth the splurge.
Great food except the paella. Great service in dining. Highly recommended as a restaurant. Live music was very good as well. The place converts to a club later at night and we stayed and got bottle service. Very expensive (like everywhere) and the service was great to start but after the first hour the service was almost non-existent, which was disappointing. They also have some staff on the club side who don't seem to have any people skills.
It had been about a year or so since I last visited Alegrias in Long Beach. I was there with another couple celebrating our September birth dates. I was so dissapointed overall with this place. We decided as a group to get the 3 course meal which included the show. The show was great. However, everything else was downhill from there. We sat on a couch that was covered in filth. The Sangria was brought to us in a small picture in which our wine glasses had a piece of fruit in it. The food was good , that I'll admit but the service was terrible! Then to top it off, after paying $250 (including tip) for our meals, we were asked to leave our table because table service started at 10pm. I was appalled! What a downgrade this place taken, including the crowd. This place has lost all it's class. Regretably, I will not be returning nor recommending this place to clients, family nor friends again. Thank you for your time.
Was recommended to me as a place for good food and a lounge for dancing. Paella was bland but the calamari was spot on. Service was not up to par and some menu items not available (1 of 3 sides, 1 of 4 bottles beer). Nevertheless, I had a great time with friend!
Understaff and waiver never brought me my drink. By the time i finished my meal i told him, "i asked you twice to bring me a coke, i already finished my meal so i won't needed it anymore." When i asked for the bill, i waited 20 mins before going up to the front to pay." I didn't even left a tip.
Didn't like the service. AC wasn't working and temperature was up to the 80 degrees that afternoon. I asked to leave the door open for air circulation twice and waitress kept forgetting to do so. I also asked for other stuff while eating, such as paper napkins, sauce, and silverware and didn't arrived until the our food was cold.
To go here for Mother's Day dinner with my husband and kids was the worst decision, food was horrible flavor less and the camarones al ajillo that I ordered was so bad had no garlic and not right sauce when ask server he said he knows was not always ajillo like the menu said but that they had just change recipe even thou that's what I order from menu, came with rice and beans that was not hot and had no flavor, my husband got the wrong plate, and my kids dinner was impossible to eat chicken not fresh and totally burned, we ask for check and left so disappointed that my Mother's Day was spent on a place like this. They totally ruined my Mother's Day dinner.
Manager was not at the restaurant when we ask to talk to him
I do not recommend for dinner
But drinks and dancing maybe
Terrible experience. Reservations for Mother's Day was done. We arrived on time and waited over two hours and didn't receive our meal. Management was poor and shouldn't be open as a restaurant. They should focus on their nightlife bar business.
Bar staff was helpful but it seems there was trouble in the kitchen.
My feedback is our waiter took his break after the meal was served and his backup who was to cover him basically left us alone to the point we had to get someone's attention to assist us. The backup waiter proceeded to bring the bill when we advised him we told him we wanted desert. If the waiter change had not happened the overall experience would have been much better.
We invited customers from out of state and Northern California for drinks, appetizers, dinner and good conversation. We were able to do all of them!
Everyone enjoyed the evening, thanks for making that possible!
it's good to hear your planning to open for lunch this summer. We've been enjoying Alegria's for over 10 yrs.
I love this place. I used to come to dance and eat here with girlfriends when I was single. I came her for my bachelorette party. Months later, I brought my husband here to have a nice romantic dinner. It has everything you would want. I had more interaction with the employees than any other restaurant. They were very friendly. This place just has a special charm if you want to get out and try something different.
Small group of us who were in town for a convention went out to celebrate after our presentation. The service was warm and attentive; the food was unusual and fun. We were able to find old familiar items but for those who wanted a little adventure there were a lot of unusual options. Since we had a Cuban native and a Columibian native, they were able to attest to the authenticity of the cuisine. For the rest of us it was an opportunity to try new foods. The Sangria was very good, as was the virgin mojito they made by request (it wa not on the menu). I would definitely go back as it is a short walk from the convention center. Also, I was in a cast on my leg with limited mobility, so the easy entrance was much appreciated. They were very accommodating givig us a table where parking my knee scooter was not in the way for other guests. We really enjoyed the chef platter of appetizers so we could all try several. Portions were very generous, so unfortunately none of us had room for dessert.
We ordered an appetizer and it never arrived. Our dinner arrived to the table and we cxld the appetizer. Tortillas, beans, and rice where not brought out immediately with one of the main dinner plates. 2nd round of drinks too long to be brought to the table. Waiter needs more experience. Restaurant was not busy at 8:45pm.
Great boutique restaurant with good diverse menu, authentic paellas and delicious sangria, we tried the tuna appetizer Tiraditos with a nice citrus punch, also the fire calamari was tender and well seasoned, their mojitos are fresh muddled and made to order, we enjoyed this place with a nice view of the action of the main street downtown in their patio. We will return for the dancing part in our next visit to Long Beach.
Buyers be warned, the billing of the venue is a scam!! Make sure you do your math before sign the bill! I don't know how people can give this place more than 2 stars! Check on YELP and dine at your own risk.
We went for the flamenco diner show, it started 45 min. late. Entertainment was marvelous & authentic. The stage was raised, you can clearly see the amazing flamenco footwork. The music was a bit loud, wish the show lasted longer.
Diner was 1 star. It was the most uninspiring Spanish food. The paella looks like oatmeal and taste like over salted gumbos cooked by amateurs cook for dorm food. The ingredients are unevenly distributed and unappetizing. We have 3 guests that ordered paella. One has tons of chicken & barely any seafood, one has mostly seafood, one was evenly distributed. It looks like someone plopped it on the plate & shoved it out without much thought. Flan was decent. Tres Leche was god awful! Was told it's a moist cake with 3 types of chocolate. On the menu, it says it’s topped with chocolate mousse & drizzled with raspberry sauce. It looked and tasted like very dry stale bread soaked in a bland water down chocolate sauce (where's the mousse and the raspberry sauce?).
For the billing, the restaurant is truly run by scamming gypsies!! We prepaid 3 diner show, but was slapped with bill over $200 of vague & questionable numbers in addition of what we paid (over $90)! When I ask for initial bill for review, the receipt mysteriously disappeared within 5 min. nor can they reprint the receipt. We had to go back and forth with management for bill adjustment 4 times before finally settling with a reasonable and acceptable bill!
Our bill went from over $200 (with prepaid diner show), to $98, $48 to final $29. I’m no accountant, clearly, you can see there’s some funny business going on here.
With that said, I will not return to this shady business nor recommend Alegria flamenco dinner show! What a shame as it affects the wonderful performers.
A friend suggested Alegria to me and I loved it. Terrific ambiance- fun and festive. The food was well prepared and very flavorful. We shared the Gaucho steak with chimichurri and the Paella Oceana. The staff was great, took good care of us and made the perfect wine selection to go with our meal. If you love latin food you must check out this restauarant.
The food is not as good as I want it to be for the price. And the service is very slow. The place was not full but the service is slow. Ask the waiter if we can see the Flamenco Show, he said that the dinner/show is pre-book. I asked how much, he did not have any idea. Not coming back here as the food is not great. I will still be searching for another paella place.
We had a groupon and they said we could not use it and I paid $45 for the groupon then had to pay an additional $45 for the dinner since I could not use the groupon. He gave an excuse that was no where on the fine print and then blamed it on groupon. They use the groupon just to get you in the door. We only stayed because it was a birthday.
We have been to this restaurant many times but will be reluctant to go there in the future. The food is consistently good although it is definitely NOT vegetarian friendly (my wife is a vegetarian and the entree she ordered, the vegetarian paella, was barely edible). On this particular occasion, the service was unusually bad. Our server was completely disengaged with the table, almost as if he did not want to be there. Given how empty the place was, our meal should not have lasted 90 minutes from beginning to end.
