About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Good for business meals
  • Good for groups
Alder’s kitchen is centered around its wood-fired grill and hearth. For the menu, Chef Patrick Kriss of the award-winning and nationally acclaimed Alo Food Group draws inspiration from traditions and techniques long-practiced in and around the Mediterranean – spanning Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Morocco. Whether you’re gathering friends for small plates and cocktails or diving into a feast of prime meats and fresh seafood, Alder has got you covered.

Awarded a spot on the Toronto Michelin Guide for 2023 and 2024, Alder is a warm and comfortable place to be, like just the right distance from a bonfire.

Alder is located in The Ace Hotel just a short walk away from most theatres, museums, Rogers Centre & Scotiabank Arena. The perfect cozy setting to begin your evening, both Alder's patio and dining room offer a diverse menu and genuine service team to make it a memorable one.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Moto Nishimura

From the OpenTable editors: The neatly stacked wood tucked beneath the entrance stairs at Alder signals the restaurant’s focus on wood-fired flavors. Dishes like grilled halloumi and short rib are inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, but it's the fire that truly shapes the menu. Helmed by chef Patrick Kriss, plates are simple yet masterful, reflecting the signature style of his celebrated Alo Group.

Our experience at Alder was excellent. The food, ambience, decor and service were Top Drawer. We went to this restaurant to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. We would highly recommend this restaurant if you love fine food and excellent service. Michael & Lucia Langstaff Mississauga, ON Visited restaurant Sunday July 13th, 2025 for dinner

Review Title: “Alder’s Edible Mixtape – Hits, Harmonies, and a Show-Stopping Finale” Dining at Alder inside Toronto’s Ace Hotel feels like stepping into a sleek boutique lounge that just gets it — polished but relaxed, stylish without screaming. This isn’t just a meal — it’s a tasting playlist, spinning through highs, surprises, and a killer encore. We opened with the Endive Salad — bitter and sharp in all the right places, like a well-placed opening track (3.5/5). Then came the Cucumber Salad, an unexpected standout: crisp, lively, and straight-up addictive (4.5/5). But the Hamachi? That’s the chart-topper — fresh, silky, with jalapeño and avocado harmonizing like seasoned pros (5/5). The Short Rib followed with slow-braised swagger — tender, thoughtfully composed, if slightly predictable (3.5/5). Then came dessert and, frankly, the whole room shifted. The Coconut Cream Pie is a rule-breaker — impossibly gluten-free and absolutely unforgettable (6/5). The Caramel Coppetta brought smoky, nutty depth and a touch of drama — the perfect closer before lights up (3.75/5). Cocktails kept the pace — the Riviera and a sharp Negroni hit the right chill, no notes. Attentive service, moody lighting, and a vibe-forward soundtrack made everything land smoother. Alder isn’t just playing along — it’s setting the tone. Confident, composed, and easily one of the leaders on the block. And that coconut pie? That’s how you close.

I ordered the Texas Beef special to share with my husband and it was very fatty and some portions were too rare (not cooked at all). The sauce and the truffle butter were very good though. It was way overpriced for what we received

We had a great Summerlicious meal at Alder. They accommodated my food allergy extremely well; the kitchen staff actually made me a completely different but equally delicious salad because they didn’t think removing the allergen from the dish would taste as good. That is a sure sign of inventive and caring chefs! Lovely servers, excellent food, lively, friendly ambiance—who could ask for anything more?!!! No wonder it was packed.

Called ahead to confirm if summerlicous was all day and they confirmed it was. Went in July 5 (2nd day of summerlicious) and they didn't have it available. Would not have come in to dine if that was the case...

We appreciate your feedback and will work to ensure clearer communication in the future. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Food was great. Had the Branzino, Calabrian Chilli Asparagus, Pear Burrata Salad and the bread and butter. All were really well done in their own way. Service was excellent from the hostess, to the bus boys to the wait staff. We had Emily as our waitress and she was friendly, helpful and just make the evening that much better. Great job…we will be back!
