The 'special burger' alone is worth the trip -- it is special. We also enjoyed the perfect scotch egg 'snack', made special with blood sausage. If I were you, I'd pass on the grilled mackerel though. The serving was the size of two fingers, a very thin scrap of the tip of the tail. It was tasty, the mouthful that there was... The celery root remoulade, there was lots of it, was not interesting enough to carry the plate without a decent bit of fish. That said, the seating was comfortable, and the staff were top rate.
Unexpected flavor combinations, but with a purpose, not just "random creativity." All the dishes were polished and delicious. Portions were on the small side but not too small. Avocado toast with crab meat was perfectly flavored. Picked corn pancakes were delicious.
Delicious brunch! My eyes got the best of me and probably ordered too much, but the pig tail and grits we're delicious, tad sweeter than anticipated. Cinnamon roll was amazing.
Literally one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. Took my family here when they visited from Florida and it was the highlight of the trip for everyone.
We were seared next to a back door. Every time it was opened we got a real chill.
Cool vibes. Great fresh food. Love it. Daddy!
The food was delicious. Very interesting combinations of flavors.
There are couple of restaurant that we’re always going back, and Alden & Harlo is def one of those. When you have a place that consistently gives you good experience, I think that’s how you consider giving a 5 Star. Very savory dishes and great service.
Wonderful ambience and friendly staff. Food was exceptional and creative. They really seemed to be having fun and seemed to care that we were there.
Amazing meal - everything on the menu is incredible
We were celebrating our 42nd anniversary a little late.
Really lovely restaurant. Found it in OpenTable, I was on a layover in Boston on my way back to Dublin. Last meal here it was delicious, the staff were very friendly and the ambience is great. There was a stream of people arriving at 5pm when they opened so advise to book in advance.
The occasion was celebrating a birthday. We were three so we could sample a lot of items. None of us like soft-boiled eggs so we either avoided those dishes or asked for them to be prepared without the eggs. The only disappointment was that the kitchen ran out of the secret burger so my guests weren't able to sample that. The service was wonderful. The food was delicious and interesting. Two of us enjoyed the spicy Bloody Mary. We'll be back!
Alden and Harlow is one of my favorite places in Harvard Square. The drinks, the food, the ambiance is perfect for date night, a night with the ladies and everything in between. Services was great, however, we were a party of 5 and had a last minute cancellation. When we arrived we told the hostess of this change and her response to us was "Thanks for letting us know". We were all confused by this comment and weren't sure if that was supposed to be taken negatively.
I’ve heard great things about the food here, but the March 2018 menu was nothing to brag about. Seems they tried too hard (or not at all) on this one. Impeccable service though.
The price of wine and beer is expensive compared to the price of food.
We definitely over ordered, but enjoyed leftovers the next day. Everything was spot-on food & service-wise. Delicious 😋!
Very exciting gustatory experience. Beautifully presented. Cauliflower never dreamed to be so thrilling, pigs tails happily wagging in a rich clam broth.
One word of criticism - please don't be so generous with salt.
This place was OK. I had heard a lot about it and expected more. I scheduled a team dinner here while some of my colleagues were in town. I think they were a bit underwhelmed. The seating situation is also too crowded and awkawrd.
Outstanding experience! We celebrated an anniversary and it was great fun. Thank you!!!
Great food options (a bit pricey), but shareable small plates are always the best so you can try many different things. And the cocktails were tasty too!
This was not our first visit to Alden and Harlow. We’ve returned because we enjoy the innovative menu items. We sampled several things. Both kinds of rabbit were very different, yet equally delicious. The cauliflower was outstanding. The pork belly was alright. During our last visit, it was much better. Two of us ordered the steak. One was to be prepared medium rare and the other medium well. No one could tell the difference between the two, including the person who brought out the plates. There was no mistake in the order either. The server heard the correct temperatures for the meat, and the person who delivered the dishes struggled to identify one from the other. Needless to say,one dinner was sent bank. The level of service definitely deteriorated at that point. It was a busy night, but waiting 20-25 minutes for a drink from the bar was a bit excessive as well.
Met up with our son! Wanted great food just like restaurants in nyc.
I'm not a big fan of small-plates restaurants, and I did not realize Alden and Harlow is just that. That said, if you like small plate dining you'll probably like this restaurant. I don't like small plates because I dislike the tension that builds over the last bite of food being shared by 4 people. I dislike it when they bring 3 pieces in a serving when it's obvious that 4 are eating. I dislike having to make so many decisions and having to ask for every bit of food that comes to the table. Give me the surprise of a good bread basket any day.
Other than that, the atmosphere is great, the quality is high, and the service is top-notch professional.
Relative from out of town - get together with friends and family. Great opportunity to try great dishes while catching up
Food was unusual, surprising combinations and delicious.
It was fair. The corn pancakes are good and presentation fun. We all liked the kale salad.
I doubt I will return.
Excellent experience! Will go again
This was our first time at Alden & Harlow and certainly won't be our last! The kale salad and pickled verrill farm corn pancakes were definitely our favorites, but everything we had was absolutely amazing! The food, atmosphere, and service were all incredible!
As always, the food was outstanding.
I have been here twice - 1 brunch & 1 dinner. Both experiences were the same. Good food, mediocre service, slightly over-priced.
Seated within about 10 minutes of our reservation time on a very busy Friday night. Service was attentive in spite of the crowd.
The menu is not expansive, but has a good variety of mostly locally-sourced products. My partner is vegetarian, and we were pleased that there were so many options available. The food was excellent, especially the grilled halloumi. It was so good, we wanted to order seconds, but there were so many other things on the menu that we wanted to try. Another stellar item was the corn pancakes—like the best cornbread you've ever eaten—buttery and moist. Our halloumi indulgence will have to wait for next time.
Serving sizes are of the tapas/small plate variety, and meant to be shared. There's so much interesting stuff on the menu, that it's easy to let your eyes become bigger than your stomach. Pace yourself. We wish we did so that we could've partaken of the indulgent-sounding dessert menu. Next time we'll try to save room.
Excellent beer, wine and cocktail menu. A good variety to satisfy the snob or the slob.
they have strozzopretti on the menu. but in a step of urgency to be too creative they have turned it into a dumpling that was bland and poor texture. It lists black truffle as an ingredient on the menu, but neither my foodie guest or I could taste/smell even a remote hint of truffle. the waiter should have warned us this was a very different dish from the name and it should have real truffle not pretend cheap truffle
Awesome as always
10/10 recommend chicken fried rabbit, smoky cauliflower, and caponata
Our dinner was outstanding and the service 5 star. This was my 3rd time here. The food flavors are unbelievable.
Service was extremely slow. The food was good, but not worth the wait.
First off, the staff were totally accommodating--we were originally seated by the host stand but asked to be moved to a corner table that we'd seen had opened up, and they were great about it. When my date didn't love her first drink, they brought her a different drink, no charge. The food, which was the real reason we'd gone, didn't disappoint. My friend is vegetarian, and there were tons of options for her as well as a totally yummy steak for me. Altogether a fun, foodie, and friendly experience.
First time to this restaurant. Our daughter gave us a gift certificate after researching best restaurants in Boston. Well, the food lived up to the rating, EXCELLENT! Everything was so tasty, fresh, well prepared, and the service was great! I loved the kale salad with fennel and pistachio nuts, amazingly delicious! Best kale salad I have ever had. The Italian Torte for dessert was so light and flavorful! We will definitely be back and bring our adult children next time. Thank you!
Cool atmosphere and awesome service
