Alden and Harlow
While reservations are strongly suggested, we also save a portion of the dining room and bar for walk-ins in the event that your request cannot be accommodated. So please, come on in!
Parties of more than 8, please call to make a reservation.
We serve our full dinner menu until 11pm nightly and then switch to our late night menu from 11pm-Midnight, Sunday - Wednesday; 11pm-1am, Thursday - Saturday.
The menu very innovative and different however needs more vegan / vegetarian choices instead of just vegetable choices or just one pasta choice . May be adding a vegetarian burger . Portions very small for people with appetite you have to order at least four dishes to feel full which adds up to be a bit expensive .
Excellent foods and terrific service. X
Definitely going back! This is a new favorite. Amazing food, so well-balanced with flavors & textures. We ordered about 8 plates and I do not know which was best. Maybe the brussel sprouts (i.e. candy!)? Foods were interesting and my kids tried them all! Really cool ambiance with the Greenhouse, unique view of the sidewalk and everything.
Alden & Harlow always offers an interesting and delectable variety of plates for sharing. We enjoyed sharing with our out-of-town friend at brunch today.
Love the interesting cocktails and all of the food options. I really liked the smaller portions/tapas because it let us try more things, and everything tasted great!
Love the wine selections and wine recommendations from staff. Always a great night - staff is happy, enthusiastic. Great atmosphere. Perfect date night.
Really good cocktails and just a generally fun and lively atmosphere. I've been there multiple times with my wife and friends, both at the bar and the high-tops and always enjoyed the cocktails and small plates.
Enjoyable evening with good cocktails, nicely sized portions and really good service.
Fabulous food. Even though it is a bit loud for me, it has become one of my new favorites!
Love everything on the menu. Great place to go with foodies to try as many things as possible
For the best of reasons Alden and Harlow is invariably busy. The food is superb, with small plates that include many options for vegetarians. Friendly (and numerous) servers describe new additions to the menu and offer guidance on wine. We tried two new menu items that were outstanding: the chestnut tortellini and the roasted Japanese yams. Both were subtle and complex, in servings slightly larger than typical tapas servings. Plan your visit to Alden and Harlow well in advance. The down side of their friendly excellence and convenient Harvard Square location is limited availability on short notice.
I'm a semi-regular at this place, but it never fails to impress! Luckily this visit there was no shortage of secret burgers and my favorite dish the charred broccoli. Look forward to returning soon!
Great - loved it!
Overall, great experience. The food was very tasty and eclectic. There was also a large selection of vegetarian options, which made it easier for my girlfriend to enjoy the menu. The service was amazing. Extremely friendly waiter with a great knowledge of the entire menu. When they discovered that the bottle of wine that we had ordered recently ran out, the waiter and wine expert both came to the table with another recommendation that was very good.
Enjoyed an awesome dinner date recently. Last time we came several months ago I remember feeling disappointed by my dinner but the recent menu looked tempting so we decided to come back. And it did not disappoint this time around. Had a corner table in the front “atrium” type area which was quiet and cozy for a dinner date. We shared several dishes and loved them all - burrata with griddled pumpkin bread, fried brussels, hot smoked steelhead trout and chicken thigh torchon. Would be hard to choose a favorite. Service was attentive and helpful without being intrusive. Thank you for a lovely evening!
Amazing food and amazing service! We could have gotten everything on the menu so will need to return to try the rest! Secret burger was definitely worth going early!
Food and drinks are really good (duck, especially). Prices on small plates run high, even for Boston/Cambridge. Great service.
Great food great ambiance!
The burgers are still terrific. I had not been in a few years!
Food is spectacular. Service impeccable. It's a bit loud and rackety, but the food is so good it's worth it.
The server was pushing all the time to order food and that was a bit irritating. The seating is not that private. You have a lot of people sitting around you.
Terrific creative cuisine with the best cocktails around and maybe the best burger in the city (get there early as they only sell a few - there is always a secret secret burger with special ingredients too)
Terrific inventive food. Expert and creative bar tenders. A lively and happening place in the heart of Harvard Square.
Didn't get that much but the things we did get were pretty good. Can't complain
First time and it was great, no complaints, definitely recommend.
We had a very nice early dinner before theater performance.
Food and service was very good.
I was very pleased with my experience at Alden and Harlow. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, as they took us ahead of our reservation time and provided us with seating that allowed my friend to rest her injured leg in an elevated position. The waitress was knowledgeable and helped us to better understand certain menu items. Food came out promptly and was delicious! Would highly recommend.
Our waitress was wonderful and the food was delicious. The broccoli is a must have!
My husband and I were treated with amazing service and attention from the whole staff, specialty plates from the kitchen, tasty seasonal cocktails, and the famous Alden and Harlow burger! I recommend making a reservation as the restaurant was hopping on a Sunday evening - a testament to how great the food is. The ambiance is romantic, if that’s what you’re seeking or just a great place to share small to large plates with friends.
We loved everything! Creative tapas with very cool vibe, warm but not in your face. Buratta with pumpkin toast and chicken fried rabbit were hits
Loved the food and cocktails! The setting is inviting and the restaurant has a good vibe! Perfect location for an after dinner stroll around Cambridge.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Alden & Harlow. I chose this restaurant to celebrate our engagement and the hostess was able to accommodate my request to seat us in a quieter area away from the bar. They were also gracious in bringing us over celebratory wine before dinner. I really appreciate their consideration and would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
This is our second visit to Alden apparently table turnover is the strategy at play. Luckily Burdick Chocolates is just down the block on Brattle. All in all, A&H is our go-to pre A.R.T. restaurant. If you order judiciously and ask about the prices, you'll do fine.
Amazing place to eat. Small plates allow you to try more then one dish per visit. And trust me you will have trouble picking what to order. Everything on the menu is delicious.
Perfect as always
I love this place, but this time it missed the mark. Service was really mistimed. Drinks didn’t come out until we were into our third dish. Food came out too quickly. And had a couple misses with the food for the first time. Maybe it was just an off night. Hopefully.
This occasion was dinner with a friend whom I had not seen in a while. We got a great table, enjoyed excellent service, and had a fine time.
The food was not nearly as good as I hoped it would be. The atmosphere is super cool, as is Harvard Sq, but the food was mediocre at best.
I was hesitant about coming here at first, but our experience here was outstanding! We came for a brunch date on a Saturday (we made reservations, without reservations it can be a bit of a wait), and thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
The decor was nice, the waitstaff super friendly, and the food and drinks were absolutely delicious! The wait time for food was a bit long (maybe half an hour or so), but totally worth it.
We ordered the crandaddy mocktails, local burrata pumpkin bread, potato sausage skillet, and pickled corn pancakes. Every dish was so unique and thoughtfully created, and the portions were perfect. Of course, they were all absolutely delicious. 3 plates and 2 drinks was just enough to fill the two of us up (without any leftovers), and our total came to $75 with tip. A bit pricier than we normally do, but still quite reasonable and totally worth it. I think it's a good value, considering the quality and creativity of the dishes.
Easily one of our favorites in the area now, we will definitely be coming back!
