Alden and Harlow
While reservations are strongly suggested, we also save a portion of the dining room and bar for walk-ins in the event that your request cannot be accommodated. So please, come on in!
Parties of more than 8, please call to make a reservation.
The food and service were good but the table was very small. We were placed in a small table in a corner. My guests are three guys over 6 feet tall, there was no room for them to move their elbows around freely. Most annoyingly, the table was in pathway of another table. One of my guests had to constantly adjusted his seating mid meal so the server could gain access to the other table, which in turn kept disrupting our conversations. I think our table was only adequate for two people. Not sure why we were seated there when there were other bigger tables that were open.
What a fantastic dinner. Everything was superb - the service, the food, the ambience. My son and I were on a college visit and this was the culmination of a great day. The chips and dip were a great start and the corn pancakes may be the best dish we have both had in years. The pork belly was also very good. Will definitely return on our next visit to Boston.
Fun atmosphere, great cocktails, inventive, delicious food!
We had early dinner reservations prior to an event nearby. The space is very dark, very noisy, and not terribly inviting. Based on the recommendation of a friend, we ordered the special burgers (which are apparently in limited supply). We both ordered medium rare, and when they came out, the burgers were raw. Our server was terrific, immediately took away the burgers and the flatware we'd been using, and ordered new burgers for us -- which were overcooked on the inside and seared to the point of crunchiness on the outside. At $18 for a hamburger with potato chips, I expect better.
The beverage list is very good, with a nice range of cocktails, beers, and wines. Pours were adequate for the wine, not generous.
Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and pleasant.
Overall, an expensive meal in a place where it was hard to carry on a conversation. For Harvard Square, it might be one of the better dining options left, but I was underwhelmed. Will not be back.
If you're dining here and want it to feel more formal, sitting in the area in the front with the plants and the sunroof is absolutely where you want to be seated. The rest of the restaurant is fairly bland in terms of design (the sister restaurant, Longfellow, upstairs is much more nicely appointed).
We loved our drinks and the dishes were great. We got 2 snacks, one salad, a single egg raviolo, and two protein plates. It ended up being way too much for 2 people. We honestly could have done just the salad, bread, and one protein plate. The steak was fantastic and the 1/2 portion was plenty for a shared plate. They forgot our coffee at the end of the order, but no big deal.
We will definitely be going back and requesting to sit in the leafy area every time.
We continue to love Alden and Harlow. We find service attentive and the food to be delicious. The portions are reasonably sized and moderately priced. Every time we go we order some of our old favorites (like the corn fritters) and try something new and we're never disappointed.
Wonder food and service - as always!
My mom was in town and we had a lovely dinner and the drinks were also excellent. Great service too.
Everything we tried was wonderful and the ambiance matched. Would highly recommend.
Great service, good vibe. Quirky but interesting menu. Somethings hit. Others are a miss, such as smoke flavored chocolate bread pudding. I would return.
Some of the selection are a little exotic, but don't be afraid, everything is good. if not excellent. I was surprised how much i liked this restaurant, and will return. The menu is creative, different, but in a good way. The service is knowledgable and efficient, and the ambience is pleasant and warm. I am eager to go back and try more dishes. The Chicken Torchon was excellent.
Great time always a pleasure to be surprised with some burrata French toast
The food was absolutely delicious! We didn’t leave anything on the plates. The ambiance was wonderful, it was busy even for a Wednesday, definitely recommend a reservation.
Alden and Harlow was a perfect restaurant for a get together dinner with my cousin! She is gluten and diary free and the staff (both front of the house and back of the house) were amazing! My cousin and I had a great dinner!
"Edgy" menu of "small plates" (the waiter recommended 2-3 dishes per person), served in a noisy and very dark place. Waiter disappeared for long stretches, and food arrived one plate at a time. Martini served in a champagne coupe.
Wonderful all around! If you’re a mocktail kind of person, the Oleo Leo is incredible. Do not leave without trying the kale salad and the burger (these sell out early!). Really cool atmosphere and service was fantastic.
Really great place to have dinner. The service is good and the atmosphere is really laid back, busy and fun. On the food, some of the dishes are really fantastic and some not so much. We always try something new and though some are sometimes disappointing, the good ones keep us coming back.
Wow what creative food. The server we had was amazing - she had wonderful suggestions and was attentive. The cocktail were also amazing. Would absolutely go back.
Amazing atmosphere and great service
Horrible food, weird flavors, bad service. Would never go back. terrible service as well.
Our waitress was awesome! Wish I could remember her name but gave us a complimentary drink when our food was taking a little longer than usual. Awesome food and awesome service I would highly recommend!
Everything excellent! Went on the way to the theater celebrating a birthday. Will be back.
Best meal I've ever had. Ever
Great/interesting food and drinks and attentive service. Only drawback is the noise level, which can make it difficult to hear what your dinner mates are saying at times.
Really great for trying a bunch of different dishes with varying flavors! Everything is prepared expertly and served quickly. Ambiance is awesome- very chill and hip. But, I'm not sure each tapa should be $14+... a bit pricey for what you get IMO. But perhaps appropriate for a special occasion :)
Go and eat the bloomin apple now, you won't regret it.
They’re were so accommodating, knowledgeable, kind and fun. I’d go again in a hot minute.
I was surprised how food were delicious and how inovative the combinations were. I would recommend as must go experience in Boston.
A wonderful evening. Will definitely return.
Always enjoy A&H. I have allergies and dietary restrictions and server was so helpful - she pulled out a red marker and quickly highlighted menu items I could order. Very attentive
We had excellent service, though the noise level made conversation across the table difficult. We had a series of small and large plates to share, which we all enjoyed to varying degrees. Everyone loved at least 6 of the 10 dishes we ordered if not more. The wine list is excellent, cocktails are unique but intense in flavor. Very fun for groups to explore lots of different flavors.
Restaurant was loud, very dimly lit- def for young eyes!
Good food, tasty and fresh
In my opinion great for casual night out, not special occasion.
The food was wonderful, and our server was great! The ambiance was perfect for a birthday dinner too!
Great food, service and setting! My server was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the amazing menu!
Delicious. Loved the secret burger and the Brussels sprouts and the ubiquitous kale salad. Nice ambience. Healthy feeling.
Completely blown away by the food and staff here. It is an american tapas style eatery, but not that kind where the plates are stingy and small. My partner and I ordered 4 things between the two of us and that was plenty. Each time a new dish came out we swore that was our favorite until we tasted the next one. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks options. They made us feel special. Will definitely return because there were so many other dishes I didn't get to try.
Great restaurant located right in Harvard Square. Decent beer selection and great food. Split 4 items between 3 people, plus two desserts!
Great food, attentive service, a good place to have a dinner with friends or colleagues.
Great food and service !
