My wife and I had another wonderful dinner at one of our favorite NYC restaurants, Aldea. The service was excellent and the food was superb, as always. And Chef Mendes was his usual very cordial self. We especially recommend the farm egg and mushroom soup appetizers and the diver scallops and cod entrees. We’ll ne back very soon!!!!
Outstanding meal at the chef's counter. Food was amazing.
food is amazing, atmosphere is great
I was searching for a great Portuguese restaurant to go to and discovered Aldea. I first walked in to a beautiful atmosphere and the most amazing smells of food. I couldn’t get to my table fast enough. The service was outstanding. I sat at the chefs counter which was an amazing experience that a lot of restaurants don’t offer. I tried the prix-fixe and was beyond happy with my choices. To start I had the foie gras which my waiter told me was prepared with just a hint of brandy. It made for an absolutely incredible taste. The spiced pineapple, quince-vanilla purée, and roasted quince added to the delight of the dish. My second dish was the Shrimp Alhinho.. I could have repeated this dish 2 more times but I was excited to try others. The diver sea scallops were so delicious and tender- fermented with Japanese turnips, foie gras, and apples which was a perfect blend to the dish!!! My last dish was the 60 day aged beef strip, all I can say is WOW!!!! No words for this dish!! Just simply incredible. I ended with the Sonhos. Little dreams, big flavor!!! They literally melted in my mouth. Everything and everyone in Aldea was outstanding. They by far live up to their Michelin Star! The service, the food, the ambiance....I highly recommend dining there and also recommend the wine pairing. Irene’s knowledge of wine is impeccable and she will not steer you wrong. If you want a memorable night with amazing quality of food and service, then this is the place!! Will absolutely be returning and telling everyone about it!!! There have been 2 remarkable moments in my life. The first was when I was born, and the second was discovering Aldea!!!! Thumbs way up!!
What a wonderful experience! From start to finish. Great service, AMAZING FOOD!!
I highly recommend the 4 course prix fixe menu with the wine pairing.
The drinks and food were very good however portions were very small. It felt more like an upscale New York restaurant than an authentic Portuguese restaurant which is really what I was looking for. The service was excellent.
Tasting menu was absolutely outstanding. It was presented in a flawless journey.
Excellent experience, great food textures, flavor and presentation.
My wife and I ordered the chef tasting. With wine pairing. The entire meal was a huge disappointment from start to finish. Our waiter forgot to bring cocktails we ordered then argued we hadn’t actually ordered them before we could finally convince him to just bring us the drinks. As each course was brought out, we got no description of the dish. We asked for several of the courses and got one-word answers: it’s salmon. Obviously there were garnishments and purées, but we couldn’t get anyone to tell us what they were. Hard to appreciate when you don’t even know what you are eating. The worst was with the wines. My wife was particularly offended as every wine was introduced to me while the waiter had his back to my wife, so she couldn’t see or hear anything about the wine. When she asked to also get a description with the first pour, the waiter actually told my wife it was a red wine. That’s it. Here, have a red wine. Good luck finding a manager to alert them because we never met one, despite asking. We didn’t care for the food either, but the service was truly inexcusable and downright offensive.
I was there this weekend to celebrate my anniversary with my wife. I very suggest this place: excellent food, good service, and nice ambiance.
It was my girlfriend’s birthday, and they went out of their way to remember and make it special.
Aldea is my favorite restaurant, in the world. Literally. Consistently excellent, lovely and just about perfect. I have been coming here since about a year after it opened, and have never had anything less than an exquisite meal and amazingly fun time.
A very good fixed price four course meal. Aldea is pricey, but inventive and worth a visit.
The food was well flavored, interesting, and moderately intense. The urchin brioche, mushroom broth, and scallops were tasty and well cooked. Service was excellent although the tables were a tad too close and the water pitcher had too wide a mouth leading to water spillage upon each refill!
As the final course, dessert was the sonhos which was absolutely delicious, chewy, and light as air, exquisitely paired with salty caramel and passion fruit purée.
While the food, presentation, and ambiance were great, the service left something to be desired. Our waiter did not seem to have been trained in the menu and answered every question we had by re-reading the menu descriptions to us. All he could do for us was take our orders. I expect a higher level of service when splurging on a nice dinner out. There are too many excellent restaurants in NYC for me to recommend this one or plan to return.
We were a party of 4 celebrating a 40th birthday. The staff was very attentive and kind but unfortunately the quality of the food was below our expectations. Some dishes were worth it, but most of them actually didn't match what one can expect from a 1* Michelin restaurant and sizes were rather limited as well.
My friend and I did the 4-course prix fixe menu. Standouts included the sea urchin toast, the cured salmon with caviar, and the venison loin. Service was attentive but not overbearing, and we were both very impressed with our meals. The cheese plate was the perfect way to finish out the evening - I will definitely be back!
The food was overall disappointing. It was expensive, which I expected, but not only were the portions tiny, the quality wasn't up to par. For instance, a $48 lobster which was only half a tail and one claw and... chewy at that isn't totally satisfying. I'm still glad we came here and made an evening out of it, but I won't be coming back nor recommending it given the quality/yummy to cost ratio was so poor.
Food was amazing and the services was wonderful! Enjoyed the night at Aldea.
Excelente! Great menu. It is worthwhile watching Chef Mendes do his thing
The vibe inside was inviting and cozy. The tasting menu, wine pairing, and service was A+ but the open kitchen layout and watching Chef George prepare our dinner turned it into a truly remarkable night.
It is a Michelin star! Service, food and atmosphere match! Arturo was very professional and pleasant as the rest of the team! Definitely it’s worth the experience!
Nice menu with wine pairing. The food was very inventive. We loved the shrimp and the scallops. The duck seemed more Peruvian than Portuguese, the dishes were less Portuguese than we expected, but very good. Service was friendly, but a bit disorganised. We were seated in front of then kitchen, very interesting.
Great menu, prep and service. Will definitely be back.
Food was good but nothing was hot enough. I'm sure we would have enjoyed our dinner more if it was served hot. Also our plates were cleared too quickly and we felt rushed.
I heard too much good reviews about this restaurant, regretfully I ended up with disappointment. The 7 course seafood tasting many had nothing extraordinary but more over cooked items. Very small space and over populated. I am a skinny 100lbs Asian but still I had to move the table a little bit to squeeze into the seats. And consequently the entire restaurant was very noisy that we had to almost shout over the table to communicate.
First time dining at Aldea and we’ll be back! Excellent service and incredible food. So flavorful and beautifully presented. Small and intimate. Loved it!!
On n a pas retrouvé les saveurs portugaises c est un restaurant où la nourriture est revisitee. Le barman est très sympathique le service bien. La note en revanche est très élevée.
Service took long not what we expected from a highly rated restaurant. Food was ok- many other places in the City are superior in the same price range
Wonderful food and magnificent service made this one of the better restaurants we have been to in New York. Highly recommend for anyone who has a desire for something special.
Food was alright. Very small portions not worth the price. The calamari were bad, the shrimp was quite nice. Really appreciated getting a dessert for my friend’s birthday.
Extremely special, the food spectacular, the service and attention meticulous.
My wife and I had another fabulous dinner at this great restaurant. The service and wine were excellent. And the food was superb, as always. And special thanks to the ever cordial Chef Mendes for insuring that we had a wonderful dining experience!!!
Outstanding food and service. We really enjoyed the delicious foie gras and the excellent wine. Every course was excellent. The cocktails are creative and the service was superb. I would love to go back and try the four course with wine pairing.
I ordered 4 courses but can really finish two of them. The foie gras terrine is extremely salty, whereas the squid is very chewy. Sorry to comment that the dishes are really not up to standard. Their staff offered really good service, asked me a few times whether I dont like the dish as I only finished a small portion, and the Manager insisted to waive the charge of that two dishes, very attentive!
Excellent creative food and service to match it! We loved the fusion of the Portuguese and Asian influences. I would recommend Aldea without hesitation.
All courses were outstanding and highly recommend pairing with the wine selection.
Great place - very good food and amazing sommelier (very knowledgeable)
The presentation was very good. Made a better picture than enjoyable taste. I had bacalau with egg custard. Poached egg on top. Not my favorite taste. Cod, ok, not great. Shrimp, good but different flavor for me. Maybe it's me, but I was not impressed by the taste as much as I was with the look of the presentation.
