We did the chef’s tasting menu and wine pairing. It was phenomenal. The preparation and presentation are beyond. Sat at the chefs bar beside the kitchen. Recommend!!
Wonderful tasting menu and great selections of wines from the wine pairing menu. Really well prepared, presentation, interesting and delicious menu. Will go again.
Terrific Food, amazing professional service! Lovely, relaxing atmosphere, great for a romantic date or special occasion. Excellent selection of wines and food tasting options. Food was well prepared and presented and delivered on flavor and taste.
We had the chef’s tasting menu with wine pairings. It was delicious and innovative without being self conscious. Just slightly more than the right amount of food - which is perfect. Thoroughly enjoyable, and the staff was attentive but respectful of our privacy. I’d definitely recommend Aldea to friends.
What a meal! Top shelf Michelin Star!! A “must go” in Manhattan! The attention to detail on each course is heavenly! Eat HERE!!!!
very average - no idea why it has Michelin star:
okay food, poor ambience, ok service but nothing to write home about!
Went with a food friend, sat downstairs. We chose a 4-course menu of our own choice with wine pairing, but not the tasting menu.
Overall a great experience, some dishes better than others but simply a matter of taste. The squid was a favourite. Good wine pairings, too.
The only strange thing was not having a coat room or at least not offering it to us or to anyone around us. We visited in May, so we were only wearing light jackets, but considering the rain outside it would have been nicer to leave our wet clothing and umbrellas somewhere other than on the floor or bench next to us.
One of the best scallops dishes I've ever had. Also the beignets were the best dessert I've ever had.
A very nice restaurant with a low key ambiance, great service attentive staff and a varied take on Portuguese cuisine.
food was excellent. service was perfect. only dessert... just fine...
First and second course were fantastic - must try grilled squid and uni toast. Entree we had the scallops and cod. Everything was cooked perfectly but not as good as the first and second course. Dessert was fantastic. We loved the benet.
Delectable dinner paired with world-class service. A delightful experience, indeed.
The menu is very small, so yu may want to see it before going to this very quiet and intimate restaurant.
Superb blend of flavors in all courses for the food. Well worth it!
Food was average at best
We had an outstanding meal. Everything from the service and food was excellent. We had the price fixe with the wine pairing and everything was special. We will return.
Wonderful food and service! We called the day of reservation to increase from 2 to 6 and they were able to accommodate us.
Celebrated our son's 50th here in May. We had the tasting menu which was truly fabulous. Our son said it was the 'best meal of my life'! Kudos to the chef and to all who helped make this a terrific evening.
A warm and inviting atmosphere with delicious, beautifully executed food and cocktails. The service was friendly, professional and efficient. Every dish we tried from the four course, fixed price menu was better than the last. It’s a great spot for a mid-week dinner, but I could easily imagine a special occasion dinner here as well.
Thank you again for the great experience and wonderful meal. We really enjoyed it and I appreciated the effort the staff made to make our evening special.
The food was delicious! We ordered the prawns, scallops and duck rice! I really like the sauce for the prawns! The restaurant was slightly cosy and we were able to listen to the conversation on the next table. However, it was a great restaurant for a date. I like the decor of the restaurant, very warm. The bar is spacious and love the lamp. Modern and chic
Wonderful! Loved every morsel! Great service! Big fan of Chef Mendes! Thank you!
Outstanding as always, food is delicious, service impeccable, wine pairings on point.
This was my 5th visit at Aldea and it gets better and better every time!
My wife and I had dinner there on April 25, 2018. It was excellent. We had the Four-Course Menu. The Chef was there. The service was friendly and efficient. For our second course, we had the Shrimp Alhino. For her entree, my wife had the King Salmon. For my entree, I had Arroz De Pato, which was great. For dessert, my wife had the Sonhos and I had Hazelnut Chocolate Mousse. It was quiet, which we like. That was our fourth time there for dinner.
Unfortunately, the food was quite bland. The descriptions sounded delicious, great ingredients and combinations. The execution, however, was mundane and uninteresting. With each ensuing dish in the $135 Harvest tasting menu, we kept expecting something to improve, but most dishes fell short, largely because they lacked flavor. The exception was the squid, which was excellent. Cocktail menu tended toward light, so we ordered martinis, both of which tasted watered down. Service was pleasant, accommodating and efficient.
We had the four course meal with wine matching. The food was ok, but very expensive. Slightly marred by the fact one of us had a chipped glass and a hair in their dessert.
The food is really delicious! We really enjoyed everything that we ordered. My friend and I ordered a la carte and they still sent us out amuse bouches and pre-desserts, which added value to an expensive meal. It was a wonderful, unexpected touch. The restaurant is really clean and sleek. I will definitely recommend it to friends and I can't wait to come back!
We did the chef’s tasting menu and all but one dish was outstanding. We didn’t love the mushroom & salmon dish - salmon skin was soggy but all other dishes were amazing — the uni/mackerel dish was outstanding & changed my perspective on uni. Food gets 5 stars. But the service was average at best. Many plates were dropped off with inaudible descriptions and we also got the wine pairing — most pairings were poured with no description and I often had to ask what grape, where is this from? I don’t know if the wine steward was off but the presentation was not great but the wines were excellent and well paired and highlighted lots of great Portuguese regions - just the delivery was bad.
Service was eh.
Lovely food, each course small but very adequate dishes (including amuse-bouche dishes) so you leave feeling very satisfied, not heavy. Good service.
Great food and service. Definitely deserves the Michelin rating!
Great food, diferent food, good wine, healpfull waitress
Some souces were to strong
One of the best meals I've ever had. Chef Mendes has found his niche here and created an excellent menu of Portuguese-inspired dishes. My favorite was the arroz con pato (a high-end version of fried rice with three different preparations of duck). It was one of the best plates of food I have ever had put in front of me, and each bite was practically orgasmic.
Go to’s: arroz con pato and the Pasteis de nata for desert
Excellent food and service. Unique flavors and presentations
Amazing experience, a Gem in NYC.
Looking forward to going back
We had a delicious meal. The 4 course tasting menu was great value. Every dish we had was superb. I loved the sea urchin toast, the squid in coconut milk, and the scallops with foie gras. For dessert we had the Portugese pastries. Highly recommend.
I don’t recommend you eat here unless you want a cold shoulder experience. I asked a staff member dropping a meal off what a component was made of and he didn’t know, said he’d ask, but never returned. A real gem of a location but terrible portion size/value and even worse service. They need to educate their staff on the menu and the staff needs to have a little more enthusiasm when dropping a meal off. Won’t return or suggest other friends/family come visit.
What a joy! Aldea was recommended by a friend in the restaurant community and she was so on target. We sat in the room just past the bar where 2 pairs of tables are. The diners behind us were moderately loud but not offensive. We could not hear the people at the other tables. Every thing about the restaurant contributed to taking care of us, from every server to the food itself. It's pricey but you want to leave a big tip because it is so special. Absolutely would recommend and will go back.
One of the most memorable meals my wife and I have had.
