Blackened Fish Tacos
avocado crema, pickled cabbage
We were at Alcove for a work gathering, 7 of us. The restaurant was not noisy at all so we could have good conversations. I had been at Alcove multiple times and the food was excellent as affirmed also by my guests. Great choices of cocktails, wines, appetizers and main dishes were enjoyed by all. As a matter of fact 2 of us had the Impossible Burger and were very impressed. The wait staff was outstanding as usual as well
Highly recommended - great food, great staff, efficient service and phenomenal dining experience!
Exception service from our server, Ari. Very accommodating of our table request. Food was very good and chef shared his delicious carrot recipe with my daughter. Highly recommend.
Service was excellent, but unfortunately the food was not.
Started with oysters which were very fresh and tasty but the mignonette was bland and the horseradish completely tasteless.
Ordered a few little necks as well that had a metallic taste and did not finish them. We mentioned it to the staff and they took them of the bill.
Wife had the quinoa bowl which was very salty an I ordered the mushroom tagliatelle with chicken.
Honestly, it was terrible. Pasta was overcooked and mushy. Entire dish was very salty with this crazy garlicky, sage aftertaste. Could not finish it.
Sorry, but wont be running back there.
Cool place, right next to the Garden. Clean, new, nice view of the Zakim Bridge, excellent service and food.
Highly recommended, very helpful staff. Food was excellent
Overall good experience.
I cut down on one star since:
1) It took time for us to get seated.
2) For a 7:45 reservation, we got our first drink or first plate of food around 8:15.
But once we got going everything was fine.
OMG. The best Meal ever! Felt like we were home with friends who could really cook! Tom and his team have all the right priorities, and we did not want to leave. My husband had black bass and started with pumpkin soup. I had the turkey dinner which was awesome and we finished with two home made pieces of pie that I could never achieve on my own. Pecan, and apple cranberry. So good.
Marissa our server is such a pro, and nice to boot--she made the meal seamless and we were so well cared for we felt spoiled. A neighborhood place with the chops of an a list restaurant. Just love this place.
the service we received was outstanding. wonderful evening with our family
Great night out with the girls! Great food and wine and great ambiance !
Great ambiance in a cool location. Overall good food, but a little pricey. Attentive and kind waitstaff.
Love Alcove! Always high quality food and the best staff!
We sat outside in the coldnfor
Cute place nice area the outside area is really cool with the views. Food was good service was great drinks were a little weird got a espresso martini and it wasn’t that good stay away from it not done the traditional way. I got the blackened fish tacos they were delicious wife got zucchini fritters did not like them at all strange flavor for her! My sons burger looked and he said tasted great. All in all we’d go back more in summer for the outdoor seating
Grabbed dinner early before a Celtics game. Read other recent reviews and had none of the issues other diners complained about. Service was excellent. Our server, Kathryn, was excellent. She was friendly and attentive but not overbearing. Tried the Harbor Cruise and Greensleeves cocktails. They were both delicious and not too sweet. Had the Maine crab roll and seared Spanish octopus as apps. Roll pieces were tasty but larger than one bite and seaweed wouldn’t cut or bite in half so a bit messy to eat. Octopus was good but tough. For entrees we had the half chicken with beets and the blackened fish tacos. Both were great. Location is perfect for events at the Garden. Decor is bland-modern minimalist. Kudos for using real flame votive candles .They validate tickets for parking at the Beverly Garage which cost $35 instead of the $54 for event nights. We will return when we have another TD Garden event.
We had the most jaw dropping experience at Alcove. At first everything seemed normal and they seemed accommodating. We saw our server twice (literally) to take our appetizer order and another time to drop our check. We had to place our entree order with the manager who came over to our table because my appetizer (fried mozzarella balls) were still frozen in the middle. I ordered a drink that never came. My husband never ordered a drink and one showed up anyway?? Upon taking our app order we asked some menu questions. The server told us all sandwiches came with fries. My husbands sandwich did not come with fries, instead it showed up with a tasteless watercress ‘salad’. I had to ask a hostess to get our check because our server (although repeated eye contact was made) was busy on his phone. They charged us for the mozzarella balls (that we didn’t get a replacement for) the drink I never got, and the drink my husband never ordered. I only found this out after I had to ask for an itemized receipt. Also be warned, they charge you a 4% gratuity for the kitchen. Even if they wont appropriately pay their kitchen staff they should not be taking it from their guests. The burger I ordered was undercooked and my husbands fish sandwich (somehow) lacked flavor. Oh I almost forgot to mention… it was my husbands birthday. The reservation I made I requested a dessert be brought out (with a candle if possible). You guessed it. Nothing. Not even dessert menus we’re brought over. If you wish to go here, eat first and bring a flask.
Never fails! This was a quick dinner for two, always delicious. The roasted carrots were breathtaking. Wa will be back.
I have some unusual allergies and they were very accommodating!! Especially when we figured out that I couldn’t eat any of the fried meals.
Pumpkin soup was delicious. And our cocktails were expertly made.
Best espresso martini I’ve ever had!! Food was also very delicious, though a few of our meals had some unexpected toppings (which were fine just not listed on the menu). Would definitely come back
Great beer and wine list. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.
Visiting from Michigan. This place was recommended and it did not disappoint.
Oysters were small and cocktail sauce had no horseradish. Service was very slow. Was completely done when our 2nd Round of drinks arrived. Didn’t realize there was a kitchen appreciation tax until got the bill. Had high hopes and it was just so-so.
I would have made this 5 stars, but the fact that a credit card needs to provided to make a reservation - not to mention the $25/person charge that is issued for any cancellations or modifications - really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Most who reserve via OpenTable are responsible people and will only cancel or modify for a legitimate reason. A quality restaurant like Alcove should not need to have such a penalty system to retain business.
One waiter for 10 tables - they were working hard but only saw them every 30min. Oysters were skunked. Beyond that it was a good experience
Food was okay. Good burger, other dishes we had lacked flavor. Expensive meal, but it’s to be expected being in downtown Boston. You’re paying for the location and nice atmosphere of the restaurant. It’s a fine place to eat before going to the Garden, but ultimately it’s not worth the price. There are nearby places that are less expensive and have better or the same quality food.
We dined at Alcove for a friends’ catch up. Our waiter, Paul, was fantastic. He took very good care of us and did not rush us along while we took our time catching up. The food was outstanding and the location is just lovely. I look forward to dining here again.
Went to Alcove after 18 months of being away. The restaurant has done a great job of spreading out the tables, and the wait staff is excellent. But, two people at the table ordered skate - it tasted nasty, so we smelled it. Yup, ammonia smell. They took it right away, took a new order from us, and couldn't have been nicer about it. But it ruined dinner. The kitchen should do a better job of vetting its fish dishes.
it was a chilly night but we took that risk making a reservation outside. The staff brought over heaters and were very attentive. The good was amazing!
For a restaurant that receives very high marks, I was disappointed with yesterday's (Sunday) lunch. Alcove was not super busy, and our waitron was very good. We were seated promptly, but our order wasn't delivered to our table until 50 after we sat down. I had the sausage plate. It tasted good, but was not hot, and the fried eggs were warm, at best, with the yokes solid all the way through. A fellow guest's hamburger was "excellent", although the fries were warm, not hot.
There could be any number of reasons for this "not up to par" experience. But ultimately, you are as you perform. And for a highly rated restaurant, this was an unexpectedly poor showing by Alcove.
Over all 👎
The food is wayyy below average
Service was very slow, it was very noisy but the food was good
We had a very nice evening and our waitress was amazing. We had no indication that they needed our table, and we had thought about one last drink but the manager made a comment about us needing to leave because there were reservations waiting on our table. It wouldn’t have caught us so off guard if they had made it obvious our table was needed, but they gave us lots of time to order and even gave us time between ordering apps and ordering our mains. There were 8 of us and we drank a lot so we were paying a lot and this just put a bit of a damper on our evening.
Great food and great service. And wonderful location with a nice river view. From appetizer to dessert the food choices were decadent. Looking forward m return.
Food is delicious! Homemade focaccia with honey butter, salmon, chicken and pasta. Love this restaurant.
Made reservations here a month in advance for 6 people, and they sat us in a crappy table in the back corner away from everyone, and it was early and not busy. Our seater asked if we wanted another table and we said yes, and the host refused.
Anyway, the fried buccatini were cold in the middle as well.
Nicely prepared with generous servings. I had an “off” entree which the server immediately removed with profuse apologies and rough me something else special from the chef.
We went for brunch. Bloody Mary's are excellent - they use a house made vegetable infused vodka & lots of horseradish. The brunch menu is limited, but the food was very tasty. We tried each of the 4 varietals of the oysters they had on the raw bar. They were very fresh and absolutely delicious. We ordered the crudo but it never made it to the table (but not on the bill either). I had the egg white frittata with broccoli and pesto, which was fantastic. I got a side of the potatoes, also great, the beets with whipped feta, delicious and the sausage, which reminded me of kishka both in texture and taste. My husband got the sausage breakfast which came w 2 eggs, 2 sausage, potatoes, toast and jam - a huge portion. He said it was all very tasty. We will go back for dinner sometime soon.
Alcove is the perfect place to dine for any occasion. The food is excellent. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is festive and relaxed.
