A welcoming neighborhood restaurant on the edge of Boston’s West End, Alcove is filled with comfortable American fare with a New England seafood flair and great cocktails from hospitality veteran Tom Schlesinger-Guidelli. Both the airy dining room and large patio look out onto the Charles River and provide spectacular views of the Zakim Bridge. Owner Tom Schlesinger-Guidelli recently welcomed the award-winning Chef Charles Draghi to the helm of the West End spot. Draghi, who closed his well-loved Bay Village endeavor, erbaluce, in 2018 after a decade-long run, brings his expertise and professionalism to the TD Garden-adjacent restaurant. A stones throw away from the Garden, and within walking distance of the North End, Paul Revere House, Faneuil Hall, Freedom Trail, Downtown, Charlestown Navy Yard, USS Constitution, Tea Party ships + museum, Haymarket, Boston Common, Beacon Hill, State House, ferries, and the Greenway.

Went here for dinner with some great friends hoping to experience Boston’s restaurant week. Unfortunately Alcove is only participating for Lunch? Anyway the outdoor experience was excellent - perhaps too nice as we all stayed for an extra round of drinks. The bill at the end of the nite was a little shocking coming in at over $100 per head. Great company, great weather and outdoor experience, food was ok, but would expect better for the price.

We went there because they were supposedly participating in restaurant week but they weren’t. We found them from the restaurant week website so that was annoying. We dined outside and the traffic noise was not ideal. The shishito peppers were very bland and boring. Cocktails were good. Smoked bluefish also boring and uninspired. Tomato burratta salad was very good and the crab cakes were interesting and imaginative but very fried so beware. Service was good. Prices were reasonable. Vibe was low energy and no one seemed like they were having a lot of fun.

Alcove is close to our office so it is one of our "Go To" places for celebrations. Cocktails were excellent - good variety and taste. Some of the food was tasty - other items we would not order again. Our group shared several appetizers as well as one side. The company more than made up for the rest.

Nora, our server, was terrific. The food was fine, if not remarkable. We sat outside due to Covid, and while the plantings and so forth were lovely, the noise from the Zakim bridge was a bit loud—but not as loud as the usual level-11 stereo system one encounters in most restaurants over the last decade or so. I’ll take Zakim “white noise” any day vs loud music. It was a relief not to have to scream to be heard!

My husband loves bridges, so tonight I surprised him with dinner at Alcove. We had an absolutely delicious meal with a stunning view of Zakim Bridge. We started off with two amazing cocktails, Wharf Life and Mandelbrot Effect. I had the grilled squid which was incredible and the half chicken which did not disappoint. My husband had the chips with onion dip to start and a gourmet bacon cheeseburger, which he absolutely loved. We ended it with lattes and the chocolate pate which was simply divine. The service was top-notch and we would highly recommend this restaurant!

Originally came super excited to try Alcove with their 3 course Boston DineOut option, but was quickly disappointed after trying their lobster consommé. No other way to explain it other than drinking aquarium water with floating tomatoes. The Hake minimally better, with no salt and extremely mushy. The beans and sauce it was served with was easily the best part of first 2 courses. Last gripe is that oyster price on the menu was not the price on the receipt. Otherwise, the blueberry ice cream wasn’t bad but wasn’t good enough to recommend Alcove.

Ideal location near North Station and enjoyable to be on the Charles. Food was delicious and menu varied. Waiter was extraordinary Lu attentive, coming back to adjust the umbrella as the sun set behind the Zakim bridge. I've grown up around Boston and it was fun to see an old friend in a "new" part of town. Will definitely be back. Highly recommend for pre-game/concert at the garden but worth a trip on its own.

Our server, Corinne, was fantastic. She was friendly and personable but more importantly, knowledgeable about the menu and the wines. She was observant to our needs (speaker was loud-she noticed before we did.). The food was well prepared and good variety-I had avoided the restaurant previously because the menu was so complicated, it would not always appeal to broad range of tastes. Glad to hear that changes have been made. It's a great spot and I'm sure we'll be back.

Acknowledging we were 15-20 minutes late for our reservation but I called and they said it was fine and when I arrived, they said it was fine but we just need your table by x time. I said of course, no problem! No one greeted us for 20 minutes. We asked after 10 minutes and then waited another 10. Server was very busy, had too many tables, and seemed frustrated when she came over - she did apologize after the fact. Not totally her fault but it did seem like the bussers could have helped with some of the stuff she was doing. And I totally understand places are short staffed and you have to be patient these days, but this experience was a bit much. You also have to understand that people make plans, are trying to celebrate, and spend money - so you really should not seat people if you can't actually accommodate them and/or be completely upfront to say - look, we're only accepting reservations and our kitchen and bar is backed up by x amount of time so people could plan accordingly. Because if you're able to have more people seated, but the experience is mediocre, and your guests and staff are bummed, then what is the point? I also ordered way less than I would've normally so I'm not really sure it's financially beneficial for them either. We clearly weren't the only others with this experience. Especially for a location that is adjacent to multiple event venues. When we did order, I asked for items with shorter bill times so we could get to where we needed to be. She said the fish tacos are a short bill time, but this other table ordered them 45 minutes ago and still hasn't gotten them. The other item I asked about was out. She recommended a few other things - ordered them. They were fine. Drinks came 10-15 minutes later - she comped them. I've been to Alcove many times before, and had much better experiences. Outside deck was nice though.

AlcoveResponded on July 29, 2022Good afternoon Lindsay, It is very unfortunate to hear of your experience last night. We pride ourselves on our food, our drink and the service that bridges all of those choices our guests have. Thank you for the information so that we may use this as a teaching moment with our staff. The only way we can improve daily is by hearing from our wonderful guests. Thank you Alcove

Alcove is in a terrific location with nice ambience. We, however, were disappointed with the food. I felt the presentation of the fish tacos could have been better - maybe 3 smaller tacos as opposed to 2 large ones. And the side salad was overflowing the plate. And my date just did not enjoy the crab cakes given the combination of ingredients.

I had a large business meeting and not being from the area wasn't sure. I saw the reviews and booked. Glad I did! First, the food. Absolutely delicious and a great variety. Next up, the ambiance. It was airy and on the water. Inside was not too jammed and although we were a large group our table offered space. Outside the water with the bridge and sunset are a gorgeous backdrop. We will be back.
