To be fair, it was their one-year anniversary, but the service level was not there. Seeing how they handled a special event makes me know to never use this venue as a location to take my high-end clients for cocktails and food. They claimed live music and free appetizers, but no free appetizers and their “live music” was a DJ... they also gave our table away and told us we could sit at their cluttered bar. Overall, I’m disappointed.
The service was incredibly slow even though the restaurant was empty. The food was decent but way over priced. The server didn’t seem new but repeatedly forgot things we had asked for and they played reggae music nonstop which appear to match the vibes of the bartender better than the bar.
We tried coming on a weekend night before and the bar was slammed, so we decided to make a reservation for a weeknight birthday at a later date. When we showed up for our reservation, the bar was just as busy and it took 5 minutes for us to be greeted. There was no table or bar seats ready for us, and the waiter said he could find us seats in just a few moments. We ended up sitting at the bar and enjoyed chatting the with bar tender and other patrons, but our efforts to place a reservation in advance and notify the bar that we were celebrating a birthday didn't seem worth it.
Dev, our first server, was great. The drinks are fantastic - if not a bit pricey. The reason for three stars is because of the price factor, and more importantly, the server who took over for Dev when he was cut from the floor. She was rude, inconsiderate, and took an hour for the 8 of us to check out. Our checks were completely mixed up, and when we tried to correct things, she was obviously put out. We will be back, but it will be awhile.
Nice décor. A mix of seating, leather chairs, couches, tall tables, and bar seating. Great cocktails , tasty food. loved the deviled eggs. Had someone in the party that doesn't necessary like them, but they really had a more savory taste the any I have had before and I think that is why the person who usually skips them was wanting more.
Aaron provided fabulous service! The restaurant is fabulous!
Had a wonderful evening, and the cocktails are amazing
Cool little spot to pop in for funky drinks and a great vibe!
Good place and location. Took a while on the food to arrive for the group however I’m unsure whether the server may have confused our appetizer requests as for the table when it was all we wanted thusly pushing everyone else’s meals back. Overall a nice evening.
If you haven't yet experienced Alchemy, put it on your cocktail bucket list! The service is great and the drinks are like nothing you has experienced before. The menu has been thoughtfully crafted and changes seasonally but try the deviled eggs, they are not to be missed!! Make reservations because this place is the highlight of West Seattle and you don't want to miss out!
I was one of two tables in the restaurant and we didn't get one of our main entrees. When we asked the waited after 10 minutes of waiting for him to come back, he claims it went to the wrong table (also brought us a wrong appetizer with our first delivery). Interestingly, the only other table didn't have any plates so not sure where it went. We would have ordered more but we only saw him once during our 90 minutes. And after we asked for the check we waited 20 minutes before we saw it. The food. Deviled egg was very good and larger than I expected. Sliders were over-cooked but the flavor was pleasant. Enjoyed the varied drink options, but that enough wouldn't bring me back.
What a great experience. I was looking for a place that was chill, but fun with great food. Alchemy didn't disappoint. My husband doesn't drink and the bartender may a fabulous virgin cocktail for him, and a refreshing boozing cocktail for me. Everything we ate was fresh and delicious. The tables and chairs were cozy and comfy. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive yet not annoying, and efficient. We will definitely be coming back again.
It was great! Just make reservations for sure
The drinks, appetizers, and main dishes were phenomenal. However I wasn’t 100% impressed because despite making a reservation we only had the option to sit at a group table or on a low couch with low glass tables (little hard on people like me with back troubles); it is also very darkly lit which I love for the atmosphere but hate because I’m so blind. I’d still recommend though because the food and drinks were so delicious!
First time here. Cocktails and male bartender were a lot of fun and inventive. Server at table was slow and forgot two requests we made (one for bread & another for an order of drinks). It’s a small place with plenty of staff so this was her issue - not a problem here in general. We really enjoyed the fresh sheet items, esp the cheese board. The meat board was spare in our opinion. We loved the s’mores presentation and esp loved the ancho chili “martini” drink. This place gets super loud as it fills up but everybody seems to be having a great time so the energy here is fun. Can’t wait to try the owners new restaurant when they open!
We enjoyed the server and it was cozy and spooky. The portions were double what the early reviews reported.
This is one of our favorite places. The ambience, service, drinks, and food are all impeccable. The only vaguely negative comment would be that the Potion no.7 drink was a bit too gin heavy so we couldn't taste and the lillet at all. Otherwise, awesome as always!
Awesome atmopshere! All gothic. Drinks are amazing but spendy (15$ average) the food is overpriced and little portions. But all in all a good experience. There is only 1 bathroom though.
Went to Alchemy for an early Valentine's dinner date. On Sundays they currently have "Date Night" with a 3 course shareable meal for $33. We had a poached beet salad, chicken comfit and smores for dessert. Sunday also has all-day Happy Hour, hancrafted cocktails at $5 and $2 double deviled eggs (my favorite!)
Wednesdays they also have ladies night specials during Happy Hour (M-F 4-6, Sun All Day) and Thursday is locals night too :)
Alchemy never disappoints. Great cocktails, unique bites. Cozy atmosphere.
I always enjoy bringing people to Alchemy. The atmosphere is upscale, Medieval, a touch of class. But the dark features leaves the feeling of a trendy, edgy place. A nice mix of music in the background but at a level that easy conversation can be had. This isn't a bar but a classic cocktail lounge for enjoying the moment and being able to actually converse. The food offerings keep improving with variety - always tasty
First time at Alchemy and it did not disappoint. The meat and cheese plates were fantastic as were our "bartender concoctions". The real hit however was the Smores dessert. Fantastic!! Will most certainly be back!
Good ambiance and great for gathering with friends or sharing a table and meeting new friends.
Be forewarned that happy hour prices only apply if you can get one of the few bar seats, even though the whole place is a bar! Nothing opened up within the hour that we were there. Listened to the waitress apologize to multiple customers that the could not order from the happy hour menu.
They need to make it very clear on their website!
Happy hour drinks were good, and so were the pork sliders. I ordered the chicken for dinner, but didn’t think it was anything special. Love the ambiance!
Good food and Ambience and drinks were good a bit pricey when not alluring happy hour. The deviled eggs were tasty, was not a fan of the gnocchi...it was fried and was not what I was expecting. Overall was good
First date, it was a funky and fun environment to meet in and provided material for good conversation
The drinks were delicious but the food was underwhelming (and that's an understatement). The special pasta, a gnocchi dish, included around 10 tiny gnocchi's at the bottom of a too-large-bowl. The cheese plate was four thin slices of cheese arranged around some unidentified jams and relishes. The ambiance in the place was great but the menu could be improved.
Our experience was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed the unique atmosphere. The food and service we was excellent. We work and live on the East-side and would dine here again in a heartbeat!
This place was amazing. Great ambiance, delicious drinks, tasty food and super friendly staff.
We were a table of 8 women who were out for the first time without our newborns, and we picked this place since it wasn’t somewhere we could bring the kids. The place feels moody and posh inside, and we were seated at the large community table in the middle. Almost everything went wrong from there. The water guy dropped a bottle and I was in the splash zone. My menu, hair, jacket and face were wet, and he never offered a towel or any help. We booked our res well in advance, but they clearly didn’t staff up for the night. Drinks took over 30 minutes to hit the table. No one took our order until 45 in. Our res was for 6:45 and we didn’t get food until 8:30. One of our table ordered the chicken, which didn’t arrive until we left. 2 of us ordered the gnocchi, which arrived burnt. It was obvious the kitchen knew their mistake because they flipped the burnt sides down hoping we wouldn’t notice. The hangar steak ($19) was tiny. In fact, EVERYTHING was small. Out of 8 dishes served, no one got what they expected. The chicken and the gnocchi were comped, but only after we sought someone out to complain to. No one checked on us or addressed the issues until we left. Not going back.
Energetic Vibe. Quite noisy. Maybe not a "first date" place during the earlier hours. Nice selection of taste treats and craft cocktails. Enjoyed the experience.
A great setting, dark and quiet and relaxed. Awesome drinks - more of a classic cocktail lounge than a bar. Upscale. Interesting mixed drinks, but also beer and wine. Upper end snacks. A great place to go for the ambiance, great bartenders that will custom make you a drink, and just a classy place to relax where TVs aren't blaring and loud people.
We had an 8:00 pm reservation for a parry of 8 and when we arrived the table was occupied. That was annoying since we made the reservation two days prior. Maybe you could put a little tactful sign on the table acknowledging appreciation for their business “but please be aware that this table is reserved at .....”. I think that would help. What’s the point of a reservation if it isn’t ready at the appointed time?
Fake goth overlaid with zeppelin and Simon and Garfunkel music. When we arrived, Bob Marley was on the playlist.
The drinks were good, albeit expensive. The leather chairs are comfortable.
This is not a dark ambient lounge. Make no mistake. This is a neighborhood bar in west seattle catering to middle aged white people. Nothing wrong with that. The sad irony was when we complained about the play list they said that it attracts the goth crowd who don’t buy drinks b
Drinks were unbelievably good but service was unreal slow. The atmosphere is super cool, cozy and relaxing. I would have had a few drinks but we couldn't get a server to actually stop at our table. Servers were nice and everything was good. With some tweaks to service this place would be amazing!! Just for the drinks I'll go back. Maybe sit at the bar?
Food was tasty. Good date spot.
Everything was great except our sirloin. We asked for rare and it was medium well.
Made a reservation for a date, and was not seated at an actual table, but instead were seated at wingback chairs in front of a low cocktail table, across from others- like a living room setting. This made it impossible to order food, unless I wanted to eat on my lap or hunch over to a low 'coffee' table. I inquired about this and was told that reservations are preferred if I wanted to eat--- I DID make a reservation. We stayed for 2 drinks and left. I won't go back. Despite what previous reviewers stated, this is NOT a good place for a date, if you're planning on actually eating. It's a shame too, as the ambiance is pretty cool, and although ridiculously expensive for their drinks, they were at least good. Not very fitting for west Seattle overall.
Great first date spot. Was worried it would be very crowded when we went for Friday Happy Hour so I made a reservation, but it turned out not to be necessary and we sat in a cozy corner spot looking out on the street. Food was excellent, drinks were too. Definitely coming back, and I'm bringing her with me again ;-D
Love this place. As the name suggests - a Medieval feel. Dark inside with candelabras dripping wax, showdown boxes with unique specimens. The bartenders are fantastic. Have one of their "potions" ($12-$18) or they can handcraft you a unique one. Some drinks made with activated charcoal so they smoke, they have flaming drinks, drinks that change colors - but a full bar as well so even beer and wine and those prices are very competitive!! Sit at the bar for a great view - and the bartenders are very knowledgeable. We had a conversation about local bourbon distilleries. Or the community table or in one of the love seats, casually chairs or the "thrones". It is a classic cocktail lounge - upscale feel but just a bit quirky!!
