ALC Steaks (Austin Land & Cattle) Ratings and Reviews
Food and service were amazing!
We were in a quiet, intimate area (upper level w/3 tables) for a while. Then, a loud, boisterous group were seated at the 3rd table. There were several available tables on the main floor. The ambiance changed from intimate to sports bar.
Hands down this was one of the best steaks I have ever had at a restaurant. And I have had a lot of great steaks. Just a simple 12 oz Ribeye, but it was cooked perfectly, tender, flavorful, just excellent. The sides were great too, but the steak stole the show.
ALC always does a great job cooking steaks perfectly. Really enjoyed the time there. Apps and sides are interesting and good as well - unlike most steak place a side is included with your steak. Desserts were probably the least impressive -relying mainly on old standards like creme brulee and pecan tarts.
My husband and I took some friends visiting from out of town here. Our first time at ALC but it was ranked as one of the top steak houses in Austin on a bunch of lists. Restaurant was nice but food was awful. The mushrooms and stuffed pepper appetizers were good but my salmon entree was over cooked. The other 3 folks in my party got various cuts of steak. All were in agreeance that they were cheap cuts of steak. The temperature of the steaks was also a bit off from what was ordered. All in all, this was not a $380 meal. This meal was definitely worth only half of what we paid for the quality we received (or maybe even a bit less). Unfortunate since our friends were excited to try Texas steak. We joke that ALC must have their B team chefs working Wednesday nights. Would not recommend this place to anyone.
Heard great things about ALC, but I am honestly disappointed!! The food was great for a Texas Roadhouse, but the prices were that of Jeffery’s or Eddie V’s and the same quality was not there. And to top that off, the service was terrible. By my head count the waiter was serving 22 ppl by himself. Salad plates were left on the table for 10/15 mins after we had finished with them and were only removed as the dinner was being served. I had preordered wine for dinner with my first cocktail, which I never received until requested again, halfway through my steak. Topping if all off, on parties of 5 or more, ACL auto grats 20%! Worst case of food misjudgment I’ve seen in Austin! In hindsight, I think my ratings maybe a little high! We will not be returning!
Food was decent but not worth the price. Service was god awful. Had to ask our waiter to take plates away and refill drinks. Waiting staff seemed way too laid back, were wristling and joking around. If you wamt to charge 50 bucks for a ribeye, please provide top quality service with it!
I really like this restaurant for the fried spinach. If they offer a new steak dish as one of their specials, don’t order it! It was medium rare pot roast they called prime rib-neither of us could chew it. They’re steak knives wouldn’t cut it w/o a big cowboy effort. But, we were hungry, as a safe default we order a filet -cooked medium as a replacement. It took an extended time and came out of the kitchen with crispy burned grill marks (smelled like lighter fluid as I was scraping them off) and cold bluish red inside- clearly not medium. My impression was an amitureish attempt to quickly please.
They’re baked potato, grilled salmon, grilled vegetables, fried spinach, dinner salad are good.
The waiter and manager were appropriately apologetic and the prime rib (pot roast) charge was reversed from the bill. We also received a discount gift card that I will use as a white elephant gift.
My husband was celebrating a big birthday, so there's no place else to go but Austin Land and Cattle. We always get great food and excellent service and our recent visit didn't disappoint. Our waiter Joshua was attentive without being intrusive. My husband loved his steak. I'm a vegetarian but I had the grilled portabella (why isn't this featured on the menu?) and some tasty sides. I appreciated ALC's wine list and the complimentary dessert. It was a Saturday night and unpleasantly loud, but that's Austin. Our annoyance at the noise was more than outweighed by the great food and service. ALC is our go-to place for big celebrations.
ALC has exactly what I needed for my birthday: an excellent steak and lobster surf and turf. The choice to come here wasn’t off the cuff. I called around, but not a single steakhouse had the variety of lobster tail sizes and the selection of steak cuts that ALC had. Both were prepared perfectly, I might add.
Service left nothing to be desired. We were well taken care of and had everything we needed at all times.
The only knock is a lacking cocktail program. The cocktails left us wanting: most of them are one note, strong (can’t take that away from them), but generally the liquor overwhelm the other flavors entirely. The sort of bold, complex drinks found elsewhere outside these.
But all in all I would love to come back. The steak is what matters. And the steak was perfect.
I have gone to many different steakhouses all over the country looking for the perfect strip. I ordered the 14oz strip steak and it came out looking like an 8-10oz. The cut was also not clean. It was kinda warped almost looked like a long tenderloin cut. It looked like an end of the strip cut. However, It was good as expected, but not something to rave about. I enjoyed the sauce sampler although the 4 was a bit too much for the small strip I had. I would come back again if the mood strikes again. Parking was a bit complicated as I had to drive around a couple of times to find a space. The service and atmosphere was great.
This was our first time to eat at Austin Land & Cattle Co and it was all we could have asked for to celebrate our 46th anniversary. The food was great and the service as good as you can find. Their mix drinks were also very good. Prices are reasonable for the type of restaurant this is and the quality of food served.
