ALC Steaks (Austin Land & Cattle) Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time to eat at Austin Land & Cattle Co and it was all we could have asked for to celebrate our 46th anniversary. The food was great and the service as good as you can find. Their mix drinks were also very good. Prices are reasonable for the type of restaurant this is and the quality of food served.
sadly, my hubby's stomach did not fare well after this meal and he ordered his steak rare plus, so not sure what happened there (had the bone in rib-eye), even though flavor of steak was very good... the seasoning and flavor of my filet mignon was good but not excellent. Wait service was very nice, he knew the menu well, and was great at recommendations. Mac and Cheese was hyped up to be something amazing but it actually was not as fantastic as I thought it would be - too runny, and needed flavor, perhaps a sharper cheese, more S/P and flour. Overall the portions are modest in size, and I was left somewhat hungry. Excellent caramel/choc bundt cake - should offer some coffee menu. I am not sure if I was utterly in love with this meal. Good but not incredible... contrary to recommendations given to us. We are Native Texans with high standards for steak and fine dining service, so we pay attention to everything. Also, the smell of the restaurant smelled interesting -- like a disinfected bathroom, or wet floors. Did not smell like a steakhouse or even a restaurant - odd.
Our server, Michael, was nice. We had a filet mignon and lobster tail. Wasn't the most flavorful steak I've had, nor the best lobster. Asparagus was delicious. Appreciated the fact that entrees came with a side. A unexpected surprise for a steakhouse. Wine by the glass was a nice value.
ALC is consistently the best steak in Austin. I've been regularly since they opened in the 90's, and I've never had a bad experience or a bad meal. The meat is always top quality, and the signature sauces they make to accompany the steaks are incredible. Be sure to try the jalapeno blue cheese!
My wife and I had been to ALC a few years ago when we were dating and enjoyed it immensely.
Luckily I found a small bag of money outside of one of the drug houses in our neighborhood on the east side so we decided to use our new found fortune to eat some great steaks and drink ourselves into an altered reality. It was wonderful! We're not attractive people so they seated us in a little dining room away from the beautiful people but it was still lovely.
Incredible steaks! Best we’ve had in Austin by far, and we’ve been pretty much everywhere! (Including Bobs and Pereys’s). We did have to wait quite a long time for our server to come take our drink order when we arrived, the level of service was good, but not great. But, the food was incredible! I would definitely recommend!
Steak was terrible, ordered a ribeye and it was definitely a serloin. My steak was so tough it was ineadible. The asparagus and Brussel sprouts were both raw. And to top it all off the mash potatoes were mediocre at best. Definitely won’t be going back. The staff were very nice but doesn’t make up for the poor quality of food.
I brought my husband here for his birthday. We made a reservation, so as we walked in we were quickly taken to our table. The gentleman that seated us wished him a happy birthday as we sat down, and told us our server would be right with us. We weren’t waiting long before he arrived, the service was excellent. Our server never acknowledged a birthday, but was very prompt with the delivery of our food. There was an infant in the room we were sat, which was a bit frustrating but our experience was great.
This restaurant is an absolute gem in a town filled with steakhouses. Whether it's their Rib Eye or the New York cut, the steak almost melts in you mouth. The seasoning is just perfect. The staff is very knowledgeable, recommending items that fit our needs, without being pushy. Jordan the owner is a great host, visiting our table several times to make sure everything was to our satisfaction.
The biggest problem is that we live 1800 miles away and only visit Austin once a year. However, for the last four visits, ALC is first on our list. If we lived in town, it would be a weekly stop.
We've been going to ALC for many years. It is one of our go-to places for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries etc.
Over the years, we've introduced friends to the ALC experience, with excellent results. The steaks are great, of course, and the atmosphere is cozy, warm and welcoming. I would characterize it as upscale casual and would recommend it to anyone, especially for that special occasion.
And, if you're looking for a great appetizer to get started, I'd recommend the SHINER BOCK BATTERED MUSHROOMS. Love that chipotle cream sauce!
I am not one to write reviews but I must say, this was the best steak I have ever had! The staff was friendly and catered to me even though I was by myself. If you ever have the pleasure to come down to Austin Texas go here, you won’t be disappointed. Just make sure you bring lots of money, it’s expensive. But hey, it’s like the old saying goes “you get what you pay for”. This was just fantastic.
My friend and I were missing napkins and utensils. I asked for my porterhouse medium rare and it came out uneven - very rare on the inside, overdone on the outer edges. My boyfriend and his friend's sides were mixed up. Food was mediocre. Restaurant was more than half empty so unsure why so many mistakes were made.
Very nice dinner. I had the filet and my spouse had the bone in ribeye. Both were cooked to perfection and very tender. Also not over spiced. We hate salty meat. The variety of sides were impressive and we really enjoyed the corn, Brussels sprouts and the snow peas. Crime brûlée was excellent
This place is so fun. It has quite the Happy Hour Crowd and a great bar menu. If you want fine dining, their dining area is also very nice.
The food is delicious. The service is outstanding.
Whether you are looking for casual or fine dining, this is the place!
Made early reservation through Open Table for a Saturday at 5:45PM for a dinner with my son for his birthday. Only 1 other couple in the restaurant, and were seated adjacent to them. Perhaps there was only 1 server on that early?
Shrimp cocktail for appetizer. They were chilled to a great temperature, colossal in size, but the horseradish was not sharp at all. (if you've ever had Eddie V's atomic horseradish, you know what I like).
Both of us ordered bone-in-ribeyes. I rarely get a rib-eye out, because I do a pretty good job of cooking them myself, and when I do get them, it is a reminder of why I don't get them. This wasn't an exception. We both ordered "medium" temperature. While the flavors were good, my steak had really no bone to speak of, only cartilage, so very tough to cut close to the 'bone'. The steak is generally a cooler temperature at the bone, but this was rare-ish near the bone - which makes it difficult to cut and chew. Asparagus was nicely seasoned and not overdone - though a few of the stalks were tough at the bottom, and inedible. The sweet potato fries that my son got with his steak were good. Fantastic that they comped the fudge brownie pie for dessert for my son's birthday - complete with candle! 2 - $15 glasses of wine + 2 $42 steaks + shrimp cocktail + tip = $170. Had never been there before, and unfortunately, I may not return, at least not unless it is a business expensable dinner.
We love ALC. Probably one of our top choices in Austin; and have been many, many times. The food, drinks, and service were as good has ever.
However, the restaurant was so loud the four of us could not even hear each others conversation at certain times. I am not sure if they have new flooring or what has changed to amplify the noise level. They are usually crowded so it was not the number of people. This will not hinder us from keeping them on our list, but next time we will ask for a quieter table.
Also, two of the steaks did have a small gristle, which we had never encountered before.
