ALC Steaks (Austin Land & Cattle) Ratings and Reviews
ALC Steaks is a great mix of local and upscale quality food and service. I had a filet mignon that was comparable to Vic and Anthonys or a Ruths Chris in a more welcoming setting. A classy, relaxed atmosphere that was cozy and intimate. The sides were also outstanding! Plenty of wines to choose from but what I would consider a limited wine menu. My wife wanted to go back the very next day :)
It was my wife's birthday on February 14. We dined on February 13. Food and service were great. She had the filet (which she shared with me) and I had the pork chops. All food items were cooked to order and delicious. Nice spot for a special meal. They also have an excellent happy hour.
ALC still is one of our favorite places. Upscale but casually minded the staff always ensures that your dining event is just that! Diego was awesome and the food exceptional! For those that haven't tried the prime rib Sunday are missing out on the best prime rib that I have ever had!
Luckily there is only one Sunday in a week because this next Sunday is your chance to get an amazing prime rib cut and enjoy great food, atmosphere and service!
My boyfriend came to town for a weekend. He wanted to go to a nice Austin steakhouse on his last night in town and ALC was recommended by my friends. He was not disappointed! I had the filet with blue cheese and it was absolutely delicious. We both got the Brussel sprouts and dirty martinis. Both were very good. The martini was not very dirty, but we could not complain with the blue cheese stuffed olives!
The steak itself was nice, but sadly that is the only aspect that impressed me. Quite possibly the most disappointing wine list in a steakhouse I've ever seen and no help or suggestions from the server who knew that I struggled to find something. No suggestion or offer for a taste of anything nor offer for someone to help. Needless to say I would recommend one of the other options in Austin instead.
Disappointing. We have been here many times and rave about it to our friends, but this time was a big let down. Ordered the Ribeye med-rare and entree-size lobster tail. Ribeye was definitely rare and extra charred on the edges, not as much flavor from aging or seasoning as prior visits. Lobster tail was pretty good, not great, and kind of small for the price.
Food and service were amazing!
We were in a quiet, intimate area (upper level w/3 tables) for a while. Then, a loud, boisterous group were seated at the 3rd table. There were several available tables on the main floor. The ambiance changed from intimate to sports bar.
Hands down this was one of the best steaks I have ever had at a restaurant. And I have had a lot of great steaks. Just a simple 12 oz Ribeye, but it was cooked perfectly, tender, flavorful, just excellent. The sides were great too, but the steak stole the show.
ALC always does a great job cooking steaks perfectly. Really enjoyed the time there. Apps and sides are interesting and good as well - unlike most steak place a side is included with your steak. Desserts were probably the least impressive -relying mainly on old standards like creme brulee and pecan tarts.
My husband and I took some friends visiting from out of town here. Our first time at ALC but it was ranked as one of the top steak houses in Austin on a bunch of lists. Restaurant was nice but food was awful. The mushrooms and stuffed pepper appetizers were good but my salmon entree was over cooked. The other 3 folks in my party got various cuts of steak. All were in agreeance that they were cheap cuts of steak. The temperature of the steaks was also a bit off from what was ordered. All in all, this was not a $380 meal. This meal was definitely worth only half of what we paid for the quality we received (or maybe even a bit less). Unfortunate since our friends were excited to try Texas steak. We joke that ALC must have their B team chefs working Wednesday nights. Would not recommend this place to anyone.
Heard great things about ALC, but I am honestly disappointed!! The food was great for a Texas Roadhouse, but the prices were that of Jeffery’s or Eddie V’s and the same quality was not there. And to top that off, the service was terrible. By my head count the waiter was serving 22 ppl by himself. Salad plates were left on the table for 10/15 mins after we had finished with them and were only removed as the dinner was being served. I had preordered wine for dinner with my first cocktail, which I never received until requested again, halfway through my steak. Topping if all off, on parties of 5 or more, ACL auto grats 20%! Worst case of food misjudgment I’ve seen in Austin! In hindsight, I think my ratings maybe a little high! We will not be returning!
