ALC Steaks (Austin Land & Cattle)
Topped with mushrooms and grilled onions
Both steaks were under cooked. Asked to send mine back. Because it was served sliced, the re-cooking didn't work well. In addition, it was tough. I got a better steak via my hotel room service. Service was good. But unfortunately, I was looking for good steak and it didn't deliver 😕
Perfect birthday dinner!
A quiet charming place with great food and service.
Excellent as always!
The steaks were really good but the sides sat on our stomachs for hours..: the kale was soaked with oil and the grilled veggies were just ok...
Waiter not personable at all; service ok, not great. Food good but not outstanding. We won’t be back.
My family and I have been going to ALC for the last 20+ years. It is the finest steak place in Austin. The filet mignon is perfect every time. Plus it has the atmosphere of an old-time high end steak restaurant.
Steaks were very over cooked & over priced. Water person did not make rounds timely enough. We were also automatically charged gratuity for a party of 5.
Even though we were a tad early, we were seated quickly. Brian did an amazing job as our server, and the entire staff were great!! This may be our new go to.
Birthday celebration. It was special.
I had higher expectations from the other reviews. Overall good food, okay service, and reasonably priced.
Great meal. Wonderful appetizers and great steaks
We went to ALC and were promptly seated and served. The side dishes were excellent, well seasoned. The main reason to dine there were the steaks, which were not quite as good as I was expecting given the uniformly good reviews of ALC. We ordered a porterhouse and a ribeye. They were tender, but not well-marbled, and undercooked (we ordered med-um rare and got rare). I just didn't get the wow factor I usually get from nationally known elite steakhouses, though ALC also charge about ⅔ what they charge.
Took some coworkers from out of town and everyone loved the food and atmosphere. Very happy to support such a great Austin gem!
We tried the special which was a 12 oz. Wagu Denver steak. Now that we know the definition of what a Denver steak is, we can better understand that the experience was more like eating a select grade sirloin steak which you can get at Randall's sometimes for less than $5.00/lb. The service, however, was excellent; the waiter graciously allowed us to split one entre between us. The Almost Famous crab cakes were tasty as was the cheesecake & berries for dessert. Nicely presented, too. The wine prices were relatively speaking reasonable. We've had better dining experiences at ALC. This time our steak-out experience at ALC did not measure up to expectations.
An Austin classic that still holds its own. Food is great. Probably the best steak in town. Classic relaxed Austin vibe.
Found it super overpriced for mediocre steak and very lackluster seasoning. Table next to us was very drunk and loud (not holding that against the restaurant, but still wasn't great for our experience)
We had a very pleasant experience.
We had the pleasure of having Diego service during our visit. He was incredibly hospitable and attended to our every need. We were there for a birthday celebration and he made it extra special.
The food was amazing! I would have given them 5 stars but my mashed potatoes were cold. I had the 12 oz ribeye and it was delicious.
The service was superb. Our waiter was fantastic.
It was our first time there as we were visiting Austin from Houston.
Would definitely go back.
Got the 22 oz bone-in ribeye, was good but I expected better. Done perfectly but the cut was a little too gristly. Tried a friends porterhouse and it was excellent, so I'll be back to give the place another shot.
Love ALC…one of the last “old Austin” haunts. So happy you are still here in the hood after 28 years!
It was pretty good. Our appetizers were unexpectedly cold (crab cakes) and the pork chops were average but overall the meal was good.
A very nice place to celebrate special occasions.
It was great! Service was amazing and we loved the steaks!! Even my vegan partner had choices. I finished off with a pecan pie and coffee that was the best in a long time. Thank you!
Excellent food!! Noise level a little too loud. Hard to hear each other across the table.
Cara and Jeff took great care of us, and made us feel at home. When my friend asked what to order, I recommended the bone-in ribeye. He said it was the best steak he had ever had!
I had to modify my reservation twice, but it was done quickly and without any hassle. We arrived early, but our table was ready. Service was excellent. Our server was readily available and unobtrusive. The food, wine and cocktails were all excellent! If you want a dinner that is a “step above” and perfect for special occasions, this is it! It is a bit pricey, but you definitely “get what you pay for” here. I highly recommend ALC!
Definitely one of the best steak houses in Texas! Austin original
Great 1st experience. Excellent service and food.
Always one of our favorite places to dine! Great food and service. A long standing Austin restaurant. Highly recommended!
We both enjoyed shrimp (broiled and scampi) and they were both exceptional.
Our waiter was excellent..and the cheese cake was delicious. Next time I would definitely try the steak!
Enjoyed all the food, especially the roasted, cream cheese filled green chilis and the pecan tart. Friendly and attentive service. Only negative was the noise level, which was awfully high.
The ambiance is quietly refined Texas, the waiter gave excellent guidance on steaks and their doneness, the wine and cocktails were perfect. The only drawback was the boisterous table next to ours. On the other hand, the contrast when they left was so stellar that we were wowed!
Staff are great.
Steak, wine and dessert!!
For the money...fantastic.
best place for escargot in Austin. Classic steak house with great steaks and other food too! And the service is on point, there when you need them without being intrusive. Great for our first post covid dinner out.
It was the Bees Knees!!
Went there for dinner amazing food amazing service and great pricing,,, highly recommended
As always, the food and service at ALC are superb. However, there was a rowdy group that was VERY loud and aggressive to other patrons. It killed the mood of a typically upscale restaurant. One would hope that in the future management would take mind of this and make the necessary adjustments.
