ALC Steaks (Austin Land & Cattle)
Excellent food and great service! This is our go-to restaurant for celebrations!
My fiance and I went to dinner here on a Tuesday night, hoping to enjoy each other's company and a nice steak dinner. We had reservations at 8 and got there a little early. We were quickly seated in an area where two other groups of 3-4 were already seated. One table was really having a good time and were being quite loud. I didn't mind those people having a good time, but I would have rather sat in another section. There were several other tables open throughout the restaurant that would have been much more quiet. I ordered the filet and she ordered the red fish. Both of our entrees were delicious and reasonably priced. Overall, ALC is a great value for the quality of food you recieve, but not the most romantic spot if that is your desire.
the quality of the meat is somewhat below our expectation. They were cooked to medium rare to our order. But, the quality of the meat does not match the price.
The staff was gracious and the food was amazing. Thanks!
Food was great, the waiter was amazing! We sat in the "back room" where the ceiling is much lower and closed in and it was a little loud for our anniversary dinner. Overall a great experience.
Superb service, delicious food, great experience. I had the surf and turf and it was excellent. I highly recommend ALC!
My husband and I brought our son to ALC to celebrate his new job in Austin. The food was exceptional. The atmosphere was perfect for a leisurely, conversation filled dinner.
My experience at ALC was not a pleasurable one. I had surf and turf. My daughter had a house special steak. Both of our steaks were overcooked. The waiter offered to take the cost of our appetizer off the ticket and one complimentary dessert, well and good but a steak house that overcooks meat? The popular creamed corn dish lacked the freshness of 'off the cob' corn. It may be off the cob but how long ago? It had an old taste to it. Nothing there worthy of a repeat visit for me.
I don’t think the quality was what the reviews hyped them up to be! The price didn’t match the meat. I took my boyfriend there for his birthday and am sad the food was just eh.
I would go somewhere else.
Ambiance was great, small and cozy, not to noisy. Sides where ok, sauces where great. Steaks where good but two out of three of our steaks where over cooked. I personally ordered rare and it was medium rare. They don’t asked you to cut and check them when they place the steak on the table. Service was good but I had two asked 3 time for a drink as they kept forgetting. I would definitely recommend it as a more casual steak house, order your steak knowing they over cook and make sure to try the house steak sauce.
I was in town for a conference and the restaurant came up on several lists as being recommended for good steaks. My friends & I chose it & were not disappointed! Everything was delicious & the service was fantastic.
Immediate seating with reservation with excellent attentive service.
Steaks were prepared as requested.
I recommend trying the sauce sampler with your order.
We were a party of 5 plus a 3 year old child. Two of us had the ahi tuna as the appetizer and it was the best! For our entrees we all had steaks and cooked exactly like we requested from medium to medium rare. We always enjoy going to ALC for special occasions but the happy hour is great as well. We
The steaks, filets and ribeyes, were excellent. baked potato was cooked too long but other sides and desserts were great.
Good food and good service. Our server was attentive to us for our whole stay. They remembered our anniversary and had a pleasant surprise for us at the end of the meal. We do not have to worry about where to go on our next anniversary.
This visit was just as great as any other! Love the food and hospitality. This time we took family and everyone was just as pleased. Will continue to go.
Dined at ALC to celebrate three birthdays.
We made a reservation and upon arrival we were seated right away. The waiter was very attentive and provided excellent service. Everyone enjoyed their entree and side dish. The atmosphere left much to be desired. It was extremely dark with little to no ambiance. The restaurant just felt old and in need of an update.
Sirloin tough, Pork chops overcooked. Waiter asked if everything ok when brought food, but disappeared until meal was over. By that point, it wasn't worth complaining as it had taken awhile for meal and we ate most of it. (He never did ask how our meal was) Disappointed in quality of meat. Much better restaurant options in Austin. Very average quality with above average pricing. Did bring complementary dessert for special occasion. Have no desire to return.
We completely enjoyed our dinner here. The first table that they seated us at was not ideal and I asked for another table and they happily moved us to a better place. The server was very nice and helpful. We had a fantastic dinner. The steak was so tender and cooked exactly as I ordered. It was seasoned well and flavor.
The wine list is extensive and it has moderately priced as well as extravagant priced bottles of wine.
I recommend having dinner here. Sunday is prime rib night so it was a bit crowded, plus a holiday weekend. Make a reservation.
We have always enjoyed your restaurant, but on this visit the food was particularly excellent. The steak had an amazing flavor, the potato wedges had the most perfect texture (crispy on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside), the Brussels sprouts were delicious, the wine was great, and the desserts were tasty--and so large! The waiter honored our 20 percent off birthday deal and also gave us a free dessert, so the value was terrific, too. We'll be back!
Food and service was outstanding.
Great place for a date night dinner. Worth every penny. Recommend the 22 oz. bone in rib-eye, Jalapeno mac and cheese.
Great meal, as always. Been too long since my wife had dined here, but they did not disappoint! Service was great and efficient. We’ll be back!
Excellent food, professional waitstaff, great experience!
Excellent food/prime rib and excellent service. Would recommend to all meat eaters.
Our service was excellent, and food was spectacular. The ambiance was inviting and intimate. I would highly recommend and will return.
Fantastic place for a special occasion. I enjoyed my Muscovy Duck that was cooked to perfection. I recommend reservations due to events always happening in the downtown Austin area.
Favorite restaurant for special dinners. Crowded for Mother’s Day. Louder than normal. Steaks were a little tough. Of course we will go back.
Overall good experience. Many people LOVE this place and while I liked it, I wouldn’t rank it as THE best. Service was good and folks were friendly.
iM SORRY I HAVE WAITED A LONG TIME TO EAT HERE . THE APPS WERE BETTER THEN THE MEAL . OUR BILL WAS 374.00 . I WOULD HAVE TAKEN MY WIFE AND FAMILY ELSEWHERE HAD I KNOWN THE FOOD WAS JUST OK . I WOULD NOT COME BACK TO THIS PLACE . WAY OVER PRICED FOR THE QUALITY FOOD WE ORDERED . I HAD TO SEND MY 50.00 STEAK BACK DUE TO BEING COOKED WELL DONE . I ORDERED IT MED RARE SO THAT WAS A HUGE ISSUE . MY WIFE ORDERED HERS MED RARE AND WAS LITERALLY BLEEDING ON THE TABLE . THE MEALS WERE VERY SMALL AS WELL . TOTALLY NOT WHAT WE WE LOOKING FOR MOTHERS DAY DINNER . WE LIVE IN CEDAR PARK AND DROVE DOWNTOWN AUSTIN . DINNER WAS TWO THUMBS DOWN
We ordered a medium rare + and should have ordered medium rare. In the past this has worked well but I think I would have preferred medium rare.
We went because we wanted to have a nice Mother's day dinner with the entire family 3 boys 2 girls and parents and 1 GF. We were looking for an Austin Original kind of place since we are UT grads and kids are current students. Everything was fine until the restaurant decided to lower itself to the Chili's and Olive Garden's of the world and included a $130 mandatory "Tip" in with the bill. I would have expected that at one of those other chain type places, but when you as an upscale dining establishment to automatically add the full 20% on top of not only the food but bar and wine tab as well, I found it offensive. I found it especially offensive when the service often left us refilling our own wine glasses, having to twice request the the sides ordered but not delivered, and numerous times having to stop another waiter to track our guy down to get either a new fork which had fallen to the floor or request a second drink from the bar or get water for the under aged son. WE spent $530 on food and appetizers, $70 on wine and $120 on bar drinks. IF the service was top notch, I'll gladly tip you appropriately, but don't charge me $130, leave us searching for assistance, and then add $20% to everything because "It's Policy". Next time we'll go back to Bob's, VY's, or Eddie V's.
Birthday for my 21 yr old son. Appetizers were great and so were the steaks.
We had been to Austin Land and Cattle before and were very pleased with the food as well as the service.
This time, however, we were disappointed. The steaks arrived cold as did the chicken. One of our party ordered crab cakes which were very disappointing. I know this is a steak house but if it's on the menu, I expect it to meet your usual standards. This meal did not. The service was excellent, as usual. This made the experience much more enjoyable.
My chair was wobbly, our steak was rare when I wanted mid rare, my wine glass had a weird grainy substance at the bottom and the manager said it came out of the wine bottle. I just wasn’t digging the vibe of the decor and setup.
Very Texas style steakhouse, cheaper than a classics steakhouse. The steaks are diffeeent, but still foos
Amazing food. My wife and I really enjoyed it. Would definately go back.
We had a great meal, good service. My thinking is that it was slighty overpriced.
We have been big fans of Bartlett's and decided to try ALC at our son's recommendation. ALC was in all ways better than Bartlett's. Service and quality were a cut above for sure. Much easier to converse at ALC and great selections. We are on the ALC train for sure!
The place was just terrible- we had a party of 6 and a reservation was made 2 months ahead. It was for a bachelor party so we were ready to dine and spend. However, the power went out in the first 10 mins of being there and we were told 'wait it out' in the complete darkness. The staff did nothing to smooth out or alleviate the situation and barely checked in after it went dark. Finally after 40 mins of 'waiting it out' we finally decided to leave. THEN our server showed up and had the nerve to charged us for our drinks and appetizers. As someone whos worked high-end service in the past- the classy and correct thing to do is either comp the drinks or send over a second round/appetizers in these unforeseeable situations. I thought it was extremely poorly handled and the service was unforgivable. We still ended up paying and tipping since we aren't animals (arguing about the check wasn't the point) BUT the experience left a horrible taste in our mouth and I would NEVER GO HERE OR RECOMMEND THIS PLACE, ever.
