Good food, great service by our waiter, quiet for a Monday but that was fine we could hear one another. Very pricey.
The woman who waited on us was very good, that was the highlight of our experience. My wife has some severe allergies and she was very diligent in making sure everything she ordered was safe for her.
I have three family members that have Celiac Disease and we were excited to try a new restaurant in our neighborhood that could meet our needs. The most disappointing thing was that they menu had several mistakes, specifically what was listed as Gluten Free was in actuality not Gluten Free. The server mentioned that this was not the first time. Once my wife feels she cannot trust what is on the menu it ruins the entire experience. I think the quality of food was ok but the flavors were not to our liking. I thought it was disappointing that the cake my daughter ordered was from a bakery and dry.
Loved the food, not too loud but not too quiet, great service but ambiance was lacking. Warmer lighting & some cozy touches would help.
Delicious upscale food in a Napa Valley-ish setting.
We had a glitch with our order and one of the entrees were left off, but they knew how to remedy the issue. They brought me bread, brought me a salad on the house and took the entree off the bill.
Food was delicious, atmosphere was warm and cozy and our waitress was a delight
I will definitely be going back !!
Sad to say but lunch was nothing special. Even though we had a reservation and the place was dead they didn't have our table for 7 set up when we arrived. Menu was very limited and the food was mediocre.
I've had great dinners here but this was my first time to try the lunch menu. We were a group of former work friends who get together occasionally. Albatross was a great choice because it's a lovely atmosphere and the food was excellent. I especially enjoyed my lettuce cups, but who doesn't love candied cashews! Our server was just so-so, not overly warm or attentive but always came through when we asked for something, and was nice about splitting the bill for us. He seemed annoyed because we talked a while and didn't order right away. But overall it was a good experience and I look forward to going again.
Great food and service. Highly recommend.
Great food great atmosphere and great service. One problem was there were quite a lot of gnats flying around the restaurant. Otherwise, great.
Great presentation of the halibut dish. A lot of flavors and textures.
We found the oysters on the half shell to be an outstanding presentation. Excellent choice of wines. Some dishes were too spicy for our taste. Very attractive restaurant, however, with nice outside seating in good weather.
The first time I had lunch at Albatross- the staff was very courteous and helpful for selecting the right meal, the food was authentic and delicious- and we were treated by a very fun conversation with the owner (who is fabulous)!
Fried chicken was amazing.
Unsure why so many negative reviews? Are people getting too fussy?
Solid restaurant with good, creative food. Really! We started with the crispy kale salad...Awesome and different in a good way with the texture of crispy kale balanced with a tangy dressing. I had the hanger steak. Again perfectly prepared tender meat, no sinew, and the creamy chard again balanced the hearty meat. My wife had the halibut, clean and simple, beautifully presented. The other couple dining with us tried the pork chop. Oh smoky, succulent meat on top of perfect mashed potatoes.
The restaurant is spacious with modern decor, and yes a it little loud, but you can find quiet spaces. It also has a very nice outdoor area that would pleasant when the weather turns warm.
The cheesemonger plate and pork chop were outstanding
Small wine list. Waits staff is inexperienced and they weren’t communicating with each other on things. Food was ok- many main dishes have the same side dish (ex- at least 4 entrees
all had forbidden rice.) Just worth noting, not necessarily bad. Our appetizer and shared salad both came out at the same time. Not the worst dinner experience in Danville, but not the best either.
THe. Food took a long time, then one of our meals came out the burger was raw, took forever to get another one. Then they charged us for 2 Burgers when they said the burger was free!!!
Great service and amazing pork chops.
Beautiful decor. Comfortable. Food was excellent. Service was great. Not terribly busy so the noise level was ok but probably gets pretty loud when crowded. Look forward to patio dining in the spring.
A friend and I went for lunch. We both ordered the Caesar Salad with Prawns. The salad was made up of baby romaine and little gem lettuce, house made croutons that were tasty but too large and abundant finely grated Parmesan.
The dressing was lightly applied which I liked. It could have used some salt & pepper but there was none on any of the tables. The prawns were freshly grilled and warm. The heads were still on the prawns. While this did not bother me, my friend did not appreciate this. Furthermore, a side plate would have been helpful to cut up the shrimp. The salad was topped with 3 boquerones - Spanish style pickled anchovies. As I love them this was a nice and unexpected touch.
Interestingly when we asked for bread, for which we were happy to pay, we were told there is no bread available at lunch. There is only bread defrosting in the kitchen for the dinner service. When I commented that people were eating sandwiches we were told we could have a hamburger roll if we wanted one. We could not help but notice a patron eating a sandwich on focaccia when we left.
This is a large, bright, nicely appointed restaurant. It appeared to me that with so many hard surfaces that it would be noisy when the restaurant was full. There is a nice patio for outdoor dining. On balance we liked Albatross and would happily give it another try. The lack of bread at lunch is ridiculous. And the lack of salt and pepper on the tables strikes me as arrogant. Nonetheless, I think this restaurant produces tasty food in ample portions with a bit of a twist. It’s worthy of your time and money. Check it out.
This was our first time herald it was a great find. Our meal was excellent and the service was very professional.
Excellent service, really great meal, loved the ambience. We had a great night!
All our meals were delicious. I had the short ribs and my husband had pork ribs said his was the best he ever had
Will wait to return and give them another try maybe. Just seemed that the hostess and surrounding area were overwhelmed. Not very many smiles and waiter seemed rushed.
Birthday dinner .... only marred by service faux pas ...... food amazing always!
Great friendly service, food was excellent and Todd the Sommelier was very helpful and knowledgeable. with wine selection. We will be visiting again soon.
Went to Albatross for our anniversary dinner and was very disappointed. We were seated promptly to a table with chairs that had large pillows that were uncomfortable to sit in and seemed more appropriate for a large couch than a small chair. Service throughout our visit was slow, which considering the number of wait staff walking around should not have happened.
The fried calamari appetizer was average but the entree stole the show, and not in a good way. The braised short rib arrived, the presentation was nice however the portion of short rib was small and about 90% of it was fat. The meat that was there had no depth of flavor (except for the sauce over it) and was dry. The slice of squash that was served with it had an off putting bitter taste and the crispy onions were stale and the puréed parsnips were bland. The other entree, ravioli, was ok but not worth the price. We tried to salvage the meal with the chocolate cake for dessert but sadly that was dry and lacked much flavor.
Overall the experience was very disappointing, especially considering when you are paying nearly $30 a plate, you can’t make up for mediocre food and lackluster service with a nice presentation. Disappointing to go out to dinner only to realize it was a waste of money and that the food you cook at home has a better flavor profile.
We were there for a Saturday night early dinner. The service was terrific. The food was enjoyable. The menu is comfort food.
The food and atmosphere are amazing! The service is lacking.
Very accommodating service. Love the flatbread!
I wasn't sure what to expect from other reviews but we LOVED it. I went on Sunday for brunch with 7 people and EVERYONE was tremendously happy with the experience and the food was outstanding! Absolutely will be going back- fresh farm to table- amazing oysters, drinks, my brunch egg sandwich was INSANE. The Lemon Ricotta pancakes were AMAZING! Definitely check this place out!
Food was great! Had the crispy Kale and warm olives small plates. Then had the steak and salmon plates for dinner. Both were delicious. Saved the best for last. Had the ice cream with caramel and hazelnuts.....absolute best dessert! The Caramel was perfection with hazelnuts. Definitely going back.
Always great food and atmosphere. Like to celebrate special occasions here.
We were seated promptly and given menus, but a server never showed up. Considering that the prices on the menu push the envelope for even Danville, I didn't feel like I should be walking around the restaurant asking for service. We left.
Pork chops were great, but seems like the bone marrow was from frozen, so , while defrosted, it came to the table cold, not hot.
Very good food, nice variety and good, friendly attentive service. Overall, a good evening.
Brunch at Albatross is always an adventure. The oft changing menu is innovative and compelling making choices hard to make. The crab Benedict was delicious with very fresh crab and a lighter hollandaise than one usually gets at other restaurants. The salmon Benedict was equally fantastic. Both dishes were served with lightly dressed greens that were a perfect accompaniment. Always a wonderful dining experience!!!
I would have rated this a 5 star if not for the slip in service at the beginning. I had to go ask the host and hostess after about 10-15 minutes if a server was assigned to our table. The server we had was outstanding and the restaurant made it right. The food was great and highly recommend trying the Olive Oil and Sea Salt Water Buffalo Milk ice cream. The clam stew was awesome also.
I hate to not give 5 stars because our waitress worked really hard to make things right. However, the food was just ok. We had the squid and bone marrow first. Squid was yummy! However the bone marrow came out about 10 min after the squid. Busboy tried to clear our plates at least 3 times before the second appitizer came. Bone marrow was undercooked.
For dinners we had the salmond-wonderful, fried chicken- the best of the night and hamburgers... ok. Bread was stale. My daughter ordered the steak which came cold and had an odd taste. Waitress did make it right with a burger.
It was my birthday- not a big deal but usually when making reservations in Danville you are asked it is is a special occasion.
Albatross is the best restaurant in Danville. So impressed by the menu and the incredible flavors of each dish. Danville needed a restaurant like Albatross to breathe life back into dining out in our tiny little town.
