I had heard mixed reviews about Albatross. We sat at the table at least 15 minutes before anyone addressed us. The manager did give the table a cheese plate and truly outside of the meatloaf it was the best food we had. Two of the items we wanted to order were replaced with completely different dishes without much explanation.
We didn’t have the best experience, despite other times we’ve been and it’s been great. It was a Sunday night, so not sure if that made a difference. Ordered the Daquiri and were informed they had no salted pistachios, which was one reason we wanted to try it. Got it anyway. It was ok. Wanted to order wine by the glass and menu didn’t list all the ones available so waiter rattled off other wines not listed (no pricing offered). Just strange and confusing way to offer drinks.
Ordered the avocado hummus as a starter, but they brought it after our salads. Ordered the ravioli and were informed they didn’t have “ravioli” that night but were making the dish but substituting the noodle with boccatini and no ricotta but feta instead. Sounded strange but waiter insisted is was going to be good. Got it and it was not “ravioli” at all!!! Very strange bowl of noodles and squash blossoms and mushrooms. Not what we expected at all. They did comp that off the bill, however.
We had to ask twice for extra crackers for the hummus and bread for the table (available upon request). Just felt like they weren’t up to their A game. Hope they can get it right, with all the competition in town. I like them in general.
I think they need to have a daily printed menu if they have so many changes to what is available. I know they do farm to table and always want to offer what is fresh.
Too expensive for value received. Just avg quality. Portions small. Drinks very expensive.
Overall a disappointment. Based on recommendations we were hopeful that Albatross would elevate the Danville dining scene. Unfortunately, this is just another "B Grade" restaurant. Food was OK, at best. Mussels were overcooked and chewy. Accompanying "toasts" were untoasted slices of store-bought loaf bread. Ravioli pasta was gummy, a collection of odd flavors and unsatisfying. Fried and Ceasar were, well you get the idea. Can't fault the service and it wasn't over-priced given it's in the Bay Area. Perhaps best suited for patio dining, or a seat at the bar--though we haven't sampled the cocktails. Perhaps your experience will be better.
Excellent food, ambiance and service. This restaurant doesn’t disappoint!
Lovely place. There were 6 of us for a birthday dinner. Other than waiting a while for water, the staff were helpful and friendly.
The food is generally very good! Nice cocktails. Ravioli, ribs & caesar were great. Mixed reviews on the lettuce cups (I liked them). Unfortunately, wedge, meat loaf & burger were considered nothing special. We had a lot of fun though.
Unfortunately, the menu and food quality has changed dramatically.
We understand that the menu changed on Friday.
They are trying to become ordinary instead of special and unique.
Dishes don’t have the same unique flare and taste.
Store bought crackers with Hummus and store bought sliced bread with Mussels?
Very disappointing, will not go back and cannot recommend.
Danville is sophisticated and deserves better.
Please reconsider your strategy.
While the dishes were lovely, the service was slow, and absentminded, especially for being so empty. Dinner here previously has been fantastic, brunch was not up to the same standards. Great potential, just needs refining.
Great food, but lots of service mishaps. Took over 20 minutes to get our drink order and 40 minutes to actually get our drinks.
Anniversary dinner with friends. Outdoor dining on a lovely California evening. Greatly enjoyed the vegetarian offering. Service nicely attentive but they were quite busy.
Having made reservations for after 1:00pm, you would have thought a lunch menu would be presented. No, brunch only. $18 for eggs, $18 for Quiche. The Wedge salad was drowning in dressing.
Left still hungry. Probably won't be back for either dinner or if they do serve lunch.
Great food with a very different and diverse menu!! Love Albatross - have had brunch, lunch & dinner there and have always been very happy!!
appetizers were well-rounded and decent. But the main entrees were phenomenal!
Very good food. Halibut was excellent. Brought out wrong food for my husband. Quickly tried to get his order in. Very accommodating and comped that meal. Great service recovery. Lettuce wraps were also great. Very creative dishes using different ingredients.
Great food. Understaffed.
Hmm second time here. Not as good as the first time. Maybe it was just the excitement they first time. Service is excellent. But when I look at the menu I just think they need more selections. First time I had the pork shop which was awesome. But the hanger steak tasted good but the portion was small.
Our first time to Albatross which won't be our last. The weather was perfect for outdoor eating. Food was terrific. Our only complaint was the 25.00 corkage charge which we found unreasonable high
The food was beautifully prepared, original, and very tasty. The waitress helped us pick a very nice Portuguese wine. Overall and excellent evening - even if the place is a little on the noisy side.
We’ve been here several times and this was our first disappointing trip. The vegan choices were more limited and the pasta dish contained noodles made from eggs - totally unnecessary. Don’t know if I’d return. We previously raved about this restaurant and brought friends but now it’s just another Danville restaurant unwilling to take chances on plant based menu items!
Perfect! Food, drinks, atmosphere, hospitality, all are perfect!
Waited a while for food
I had the chilaquiles and they were delicious! A bit pricier than the average brunch but great food and service. I’d absolutely go again.
This was my second time at the restaurant because I loved the food and service the first time I had brunch here. Unfortunately, this time the service was very slow and the food was okay - not as delicious as the first time.
The choices were very good. The hostess made a special effort to select a table according to our request. Our party of four enjoyed our appetizers, main courses, and desserts. The soft serve dessert options were a surprisingly wonderful treat!
Our server only came to us one time in 45 min. Our glass of wine was 2/3 full & our appetizer was served with no plates. We decided to leave w/o ordering dinner. Much appreciation to the management for comping the appetizer asking for a second chance. We will try again, it seemed to have been a busy evening but thanks again for making it right on our behalf. John
Very limited menu. Very noisy because of high ceiling. Kind of pricey.
We sat at the bar. I personally have never seen this level of mixology in DANVILLE before. These guys were as good as Flour and Water in the city. The food was very good. I had the chicken dish and was fantastic. Best chicken at a restaurant in a long time. I met the owner and was quite obvious her passion for it to be best restaurant in the area. She’s got the right formula and will be back very soon. I hate bourbon and had the mixologist make me a bourbon cocktail and loved it.
Maria C. Very attentive & made great suggestions.
We enjoyed HH & will be back again.
Bartenders definitely made tasty drinks!
It was a nice place to celebrate a birthday! Food was creative, and very good.
Perfect venue for getting together with friends. Lunch included delicious salads, the gem salad with prawns and the mixed salad with a perfectly cooked piece of salmon. Soft serve deserts with whiskey caramel sauce were so good!!!
The owner, chef, manager and staff are always welcoming and make every dining experience special.
Albatross continues to be our favorite restaurant!!!
Albatross was wonderful. The food was superb, the ambiance was great and the wait stafc could not have been better.
Service was very good. Food was pretty good. I found it to be pretty expensive for a place like this which is a very casual spot. The ambiance is simple, but nice. One thing I would have changed was to add more items to the menu. It was a very small menu.
Went for brunch on a Saturday, excellent service outside @their dog friendly patio. Food was very good, altho it looked like they had started to plate my husband's dish on my plate. He had a chicken lettuce cup salad with noodles and carrots and somehow those ended up underneath my quiche. If they had replated my dish on a clean plate would have been much better.
Ovwrall it was fantastic. The two salads we had - caesar and buratta - were only average.
This was our first visit to Albatross. We had a great time.
The food was bland and not much flavor. We brought our own bottle of wine and had to ask twice for it to be opened. We ordered appetizers and when they came out they did not bring plates to put it on. We ordered a salad to split and when it arrived it came with the main course dishes and was not split. We split the salad ourselves while our food sat on the table getting cold.
One and done for me. service and ambience are nice, but if the food you are served is not as good as what you can prepare at home, you probably won’t return.
The food was fresh and delicious. The house made ice cream and tiramisu were amazing!
Celebrating our anniversary and being a previous customer, we were each presented with a glass of Brut for our celebration. The owner stopped by for a short visit also. We enjoyed everything about the restaurant, food and staff. A great evening!
