Alan Wong's Restaurant
Our flagship restaurant in Honolulu has been recognized by numerous awards including those for "Best Tasting Menu", "Best Wine Program", "Best Service", and "Best Desserts." The culinary team is always striving to create new dishes that speak of our Farm to Table commitment, and our staff strives to make your romantic dinner, special occasion, or visit to Honolulu a memorable one for every guest.
Outstanding tasting menu. Ono!
Good food but overpriced. Service good but alternates between a little slow and a little overbearing. A little to busy (open kitchen) and noisy to be considered a top-tier fine dining establishment, IMHO. Maybe time to move on?
Felt the courses were rushed. We had to ask them to slow between courses.
Great place to celebrate an anniversary!
Food is very well presented. Service was only fair. Never asked us if we wanted more drinks.
We had to try it given the storied reputation and it was very good. Menu has many of the same trademark dishes with some new creations. We had the tasting menu with wine flight and it was nicely done. The owner should consider updating the cuisine with more contemporary flavors.
amazing food. avocado poke stack was great as was the onaga!
Amazing food and service. Not to be missed.
Fabulous place. This is the 3rd time we've been to celebrate my birthday. And this was the big 65th one! Best Mai Tai in Hawaii. And the short ribs are awesome. Mahalo!
Fantastic as always!
We love going to Alan wong’s every trip to Oahu.
Always great service and great food!!
Thanks for making my birthday dinner special.
Service was excellent. It was difficult to find fault in any of their presentations and cuisine. Well done.
42nd Anniversary “date”. Exceptional service and food! LOVE this place!!!
Seems like using MSG... does not think that is good restaurant to go and pay that much.
We were treated like royalty. We received a confirmation call, & asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. I said, “It’s our wedding anniversary.” I was surprised when I opened up the menu to see to my astonishment typed in cursive at the top, “Happy Anniversary Shawntay & George” with the date. We got a free desert repeating the above greeting in a special sauce on the plate. When I asked for the check, they gave us yummy Okinawan cookies. The area is a block away from McDonald’s, and ina pretty dumpy neighborhood. It’s definitely not in the high class edition of Honolulu called Waikiki. I paid for the parking meter with no other option available but coins (quarters). Everything was pretty dumpy looking until I got to the third floor. The elevators opened, & suddenly my wife, & I were transformed into absolute luxury. Btw this tastes way better than Roy’s in Waikiki, & gives bigger servings.
Deserves its rating as Honolulu's best restaurant experience
The food was just ok. We had the tasting menu and the short rib was dry. The dessert crunch bars was too bitter. The saving grace was my waiter Aaron and Chelsea was great.
The food was inventive and flavors excellent. Wine pairing was spot on and we loved the sake-Parmesan-liliquoi with the “soup and sandwich”.
Fabulous meals with tremendous service. Creative, unique cuisine.
While our server provided exceptional service, I would describe the food at Alan Wong’s as somewhat unrefined and heavily-sauced. The oxtail soup was effectively the same beef broth in Vietnamese pho noodles, the fish was rubbery/overdone and completely covered in peppers and heavy garnishes and the short ribs were dry and doused in bbq sauce. This fusion cuisine suits patrons seeking more of a junk food experience rather than fine dining. Avoid valet if possible, it is an expensive five foot parking exercise and unnecessary.
The food was outstanding and the staff knowledge of each menu item was impressive.
First time here, did tasting menu. Fish course served a bit cold, but otherwise perfect food and service. Definitely worth a visit.
All good but don’t get the most popular dish - the short ribs (way too dry)
Im not a big fan of fusion food, but this place is exceptional.
This restaurant is showing the perfect combination of western and eastern style dining.
In order to create these types of dishes, I believe the chef has very deep knowledge in eastern food.
I would luv to visit this place again.
A must visit when in Honolulu, innovative presentations & selections and first class service.
I am saddened to write this about our beloved annual family tradition venue since 2007. There were two incidents of cockroaches crawling across the table. Although the restaurant apologized and offered us a complimentary coffee and extra dessert, the incidents were deeply upsetting. We will find a new venue for our milestone celebrations and reunion dinners.
Slow service with large gap between first and second course. The food was excellent and staff very accommodating, but at this price point I can’t give 5 stars unless the experience is near perfect.
Experiencing Alan Wong's for the first time, I found it to be a very appealing restaurant. The service was first rate and equal to the professional service I have experienced at other 5 star restaurants. The flow of the staff was impressive as the room was completely booked for the first seating of the day. We went for a Shrimp base appetizer and the uniquely crafted H.R.Caesar Salad followed by the Lobster Bisque Soup. All were delicious. Main Entrees included The Ginger Crusted Onaga and the Twice Cooked Short Ribs, the Onaga was good but came out at room temperature and the Ribs were a little dry yet still tasty. Overall, we had a positive experience and will return and next time try the "Da Bag" of steamed claims!
My husband and I celebrated our Anniversary here..the food was portioned perfectly, so we could enjoy the appetizers our entree and dessert.
The service was great! They went the extra mile to make us feel special on our day by personalizing our menu! In addition, we were given desert to end our night!
We will definitely go back again!
Overpriced for the food execution. Enclosed lenai area can become loud. Weird lighting there too.
Food was salty and I love salt but this was too much. Fish and oxtail soup was swimming in salt.
Very good food. Appetizers are huge!! Share. Main courses are normal size. Staff is lovely. You don’t need to get dressed up!!
We had a wonderful degustation at Alan Wong’s. Our waiter Michael was excellent, engaging and very knowledgeable.
The food was fantastic and their specialty beef dish was incredible.
We ended up doing the matching wines as the bottles of wine are very expensive.
Overall, fantastic experience.
We were really excited to go to Alan Wong’s as it is a favorite of Barack Obama, but were immediately met with disappointment. We waited 16 minutes (and had to ask who our server was) before entering our drink order. When we asked about ordering our appetizers, the waiter insisted that we needed to enter our full order so that they could maintain one ticket. We initially thought it was personal until we realized that everyone around us was waiting a lifetime for their various courses. The food was conceptually elegant but the only item that stood out were the tacos (amazing). The overall experience was disappointing not just due to high expectations, but because dinner, at least this night, was not up to par. While probably just an off night, I hate that it had to be ours.
Fabulous food and service. Their unique “Coconut” dessert is delicious and a must-order.
Alan Wong's has been our go to place to take people coming in from out of town. However this past experience was disappointing as the service was very slow ( we were therefore over 2-1/2 hours despite getting the prefixe menu) and the food was not up to the usual excellence we expect. The ginger crusted onaga, our favorite, was not well executed with very little crust. This was somewhat embarrassing as the guest we were hosting are chefs at the Michelin Starred restaurant State Bird Provisions in San Francisco.
We were very disappointed in this dining experience. This is one of the finest restaurants in the state, and we've always had a great experience. This time was bad from the get-go. When we presented at the hostess' podium, she said "can I help you?" We both found this was a very odd thing to say since it was obvious that we were here to dine. Once seated, we waited for more than a few minutes before our server introduced himself to us. There was a LONG delay in getting our soup/salad. There was quite a long delay too in getting the entrees. The server apologized multiple times for the delay in getting our food. I'm not sure if this was his fault of the kitchen's. All in all, we expected much better service from this establishment and the prices one pays here.
The food was great! Everything was nice! I just feel that they should really improve their staff service.
It was a busy evening when we dined . We waited a lot for the food to be prepared but the food was just awesome!!
Food is great though!
