   From the start it was bad…seated no menus, no napkins no silverware. Two servers took orders, but neither brought our drinks - appetizer served - no napkins, no silverware - still no drinks. Then they forgot other appetizers and finally drinks. The water zombie kid ignored me each time I tried to call him over - they took my friends cocktail away that wasn’t finished… They charged me 2x for the meal - as a split meal and then through the app inkind which they said they stopped…so now I am disputing the double charge with Apple and with inkind and I told Ala but no response. Lots of choices for restaurants - this was very disappointing. Won’t go back.

   The lighting in the upstairs dining room was incredibly bright and intense—they should consider changing it. The room quickly filled up and became chaotically loud with that many people in such a small space. The waiter was friendly, but we had to remind him about few times about items we ordered that he forgot to bring out. The food was enjoyable enough though.

   Ala says on the menu that the food is not traditional dishes, so keep that in mind when you read my review. Maybe we picked the wrong dishes. The brussels sprouts were tasty but very salty. The shrimp sat in a layer of oil that did not add flavor to the dish. You can find much better, Mediterranean food in DC . There is zero ambience in the room off to the left of the restaurant, but the area by the bar looked more cosy and lively. The noise level is fine for conversation. The service was fine. I review a fair number of restaurants and generally give great reviews.

    The food and service was great. Unique dishes that were very well prepared. They were able to accommodate my wife’s soy allergy without a problem. The location a short walk from the DuPont Circle Metro station is a plus.
