Very authentic and delicious food on the menu and so fun to sit outside on their patio.
The pasta machine was broke but they still were able to serve us a great meal!!!! Someone that I believe to be the manager or owner brought our food and he used zucchini instead of her noodles. She loved it and they still gave it to us for free. Phenomenal place and service!
I have been a frequent diner at Al Vento for about 10 years. For a long time, it was my go to restaurant whenever I had friends in town or wanted to meet friends for dinner. It was even the restaurant my husband and I had our first date, and later where we dined the night we go engaged. I have always LOVED the service and the food! Plus I lived by Lake Nokomis for about 10 years, so it had a special place in my heart as a neighborhood gem. When we dined here on Saturday night, we brought our friends who had never been here, and I have to say it was just okay. Our service was the worst I have ever had. It took 20 minutes to get our bottle of wine. The salmon risotto I wanted to order was out, the first wine choice (Super Tuscan) was out. One of the glasses of water they poured for me was cloudy, which was quickly corrected, but made me question the attention to cleanliness. I am really hoping this wasn't a sign of the times and the restaurant is going downhill. But, it was definitely not an experience that I would rush back towards, especially with all the great restaurants in Minneapolis. I just wanted to share my experience because while the food was great, the service was not and that really ruins the love for this place over all.
As Always, Al Vento never disappoints! The food is fabulous and the service is fantastic. The servers are helpful and knowledgeable about both the menu and the wine list. We highly recommend Al Vento, one of the best little gems in Minneapolis!
Love the fennel sausage pizza and their salads! They are very good about food allergies.
I liked the new heated porch area. It allowed my friend and I to enjoy daylight just a little longer. The wait staff is polite and caring. The food was fabulous. The OPEN TABLE reservation system works so well.
This place is well worth your visit. YUM!
We were served two bad bottles of wine, the first bottle was corked and the server poored himself a glass then walked away. He returned and said the bar tender said the wine was bad. The second bottle was sour and the cork was wet all of the way to the top. Btw the waiter refused to set the cork on the table. The waiter returned with an unordered bottle and served it to us. His behavior was completely reprehensible for the remainder of our dinner. Threats and acts of intimidation by a waiter, wtf! Yes I complained to the manager, she said she would talk to him. On the way out we observed the same waiter in an argument with a female customer. I would skip this place!!!
We drove 40 minutes to try Al Vento, and it was worth it. If you are into traditional bruschetta with big chunks of tomato and mozzarella then this will be a little different, but very good. Our pasta was done perfectly and very flavorful.
Great food! Seemed like the kitchen was easily backed up.
We made a reservation specifically to celebrate my wife's birthday. I even indicated that on the reservation when i made it. While they accommodated our request to sit in the rear area of the restaurant, the hostess didn't even mention the birthday. Once we were seated, we didn't have a server come to see us for almost 20 minutes. Again, no comment or greeting wishing my wife happy birthday. The service was slow and it was obvious our patronage was not important to them. I sensed you needed to be a "regular patron" to receive better service. Our server seemed to split time between the back and front of the restaurant, just not serving our needs. After we had requested the bill he finally stopped with a dessert with candle for my wife's birthday. I felt horrible that as we were getting ready to leave that they finally chose that time to acknowledge the reason we dined there. Will not go back.
I have been here before, but I was not impressed this time. First off, the sidewalk between the parking lot and the restaurant was covered in ice. When we, as well as many other customers, mentioned that they should put salt down so people wouldn’t slip, they first said they didn’t get their shipment of salt in (?) and then said it was the kitchen’s job, and ultimately never did anything about it. Next, the service was horrible. It was as if our server was ignoring us. We had to ask other staff if we could order. I don’t see myself going here again
Delightful staff who give quiet attentive service
Wonderful array of felicious foods for brunch
Great Easter brunch! Wonderful variety. We really appreciated that meat choices were offered separately so that we as vegetarians could enjoy every dish on offer. Mimosas were delicious and a good value.
This was an Easter Brunch. The variety of food was wonderful. We sat out on the enclosed patio with heaters ( the outdoor temp was in the thirties). We were very warm. Our guests loved it. Great experience.
I have only been to the brunch Easter and Fathers day and they are great. Brunch is highly recommended especially for Fathers day or Mothers day. Open buffet brunch. Italian doughnuts are brilliant along with the chocolate strawberries. The rest of the Food is very good. One day we will make it to dinner.
We love eating dinner at Al Vento but the brunch was very disappointing. There were only two breakfast items and the eggs were not impressive at all. They also do not have a lot for kids so my daughter did not eat. The value is just not there. My Bloody Mary was not spicy either. Very sad in the end and nothing special for Easter brunch.
Good food and great service. We went for Easter Brunch. The only con was how hot they were heating the porch where we were seated - so if you don't like that I'd recommend asking for a seat inside. Everything else was great.
Food was excellent, service was meh.... everything was great but when it came to ordering, our server took a while to address us. We had our water and bread right away but sat for too long waiting to order drinks and apps. After our food came, she never again asked if I wanted another glass of wine.. it sat there empty then finally the busser took it away. So I was bummed to not get another glass of wine on a rare date for this momma.
Intimate dining. Not too loud. Good fixed price tasting menu. Pleasant environment. Plan to return!
Took Mi Corazón to dinner here, and we had the most Romantic night. She went to school abroad in Italia and said the food at Al Vento is up to par with with its roots.
Fantastic food and service. Nice wine selection. Strongly recommend. The only negative was the very icy sidewalk. Walk carefully the food is worth it.
Tried this restaurant with family for my birthday celebration...the food was not good, especially for the price you pay, and the service was not good either. The only enjoyable part was that the atmosphere of dimmed lighting, which was nice/romantic if you were to go there for a date, but I unfortunately would not recommend this place.
This was a wonderful venue for a "friends get together"; the staff gave us plenty of time to catch up and have an unhurried evening together. Great recommendations for drinks and foods. The food was very tasty and creative. Will certainly go back again. Will love the outdoor space when the weather warms up.
We came in as first timers for my birthday dinner (40th). The restaurant itself was very cute. It was a Tuesday night at 630 so it was pretty quiet. Our server had only 1 other table. We ordered the tomato bisque soup and a Caesar salad to start, the soup was delicious, very unique unfortunately the salad never came. Based on my research we ordered the Bucatini and Linguini with clams. Both entrees were delicious. Tiramisu for dessert...made in house was everything I hoped it would be an more. I could have licked the plate. All in all it would’ve been a 10 had we gotten the Caesar salad we ordered. Either way I will be back...hopefully soon.
We enjoy eating at Al Vento's. The food is always good and the service is great - very attentive. We had one of their pasta specials along with a glass of wine during their happy hour from 2 - 6 PM. Their prices are reasonable and the setting is quiet so you can have a conversation without shouting. If you like Italian food, we recommend that you try Al Vento's.
As always, the food was delicious and service friendly. My friend and I shared the bruschetta sampler, each was better than the last. Especially like that the bread was sliced a little thinner, a better balance with toppings! My friend had the bean and vegetable soup which was delicious and served piping hot, as soup should be. I loved my meatball with mother sauce, but wish it had been warmer. Tiramisu was a delicious treat. Al Vento is one of my favorites!
There were only a few tables full when we arrived at the restaurant so the experience started out strong with the cold starters coming out in a timely manner. Unfortunately, we then waited an hour for our hot egg entree. We asked the server several times when the dish would arrive. Finally after being at the restaurant for one and a half hours without receiving our egg dish we asked for our check. The server did comp our bill .
Always excellent service and food. Kind of loud but all places seem like that these days
The scallops were phenomenal! Lovely wine. Knowledgeable staff
Everyone in our group chose the tasting menu, which appeared to offer an exciting exploration of interesting food. My wife and I chose a first course of shrimp, oysters and mushrooms with a black olive aioli. I was startled that everything but the aioli was battered and deep fried. I was also disappointed with the result. For the second course, my wife had a competent, but unexciting, beet salad. I had a blah navy bean based soup. For the entree, I had short ribs which appeared and tasted like mystery meat. My wife's (and our friends') choice for an entree ran out. My wife had a so-so chicken saltimbocca as a replacement. The meal was topped off by an OK gelato. In sum, what looked very promising on the menu resulted in no good reason to return.
Felt ignored. Although there was an event in the back, staff were on top of their game in the front... except our table for 2. I still can’t figure out why. Good food. I’d go back again. Just odd that I had to wave down staff multiple times. Bummer.
Great food and beverages. Knowledgeable staff. We were there for almost 3 hours and they continued filling our water glasses and never made us feel we were over staying our welcome.
Nice place for brunch with a group! The bottomless bloody was a hit too!
Food was delicious. Service was excellent. No complaints.
we went to Al Vento for restaurant week in the Twin Cities, and we enjoyed a two course meal. The choices were good.
The food is soooo good. Had the scallops and they were perfectly cooked and the deep fried oysters were crispy but moist and tender on the inside. My favorite place to go for a Old Fashioned. Service was attentive, I have never had a bad meal there.
Our meal was extremely well prepared, very flavorful.
As always, Al Vento delivered. I had the gnocchi and it was amazing.
My friend and I went to Al Vento for Restaurant Week. It was a four course tasting menu. Our server was running around and I feel they should have had another one in that section. The first course was a fried oyster with black aioli. The presentation was something left to be desired. The aioli was salty and the dish was swimming in it. Second course was a clam soup. I had bits of clam shells in my rich soup. Also they were not properly cleaned, thus I found bits of sand and grit. Third course was a braised short rib. The balsamic reduction was overwhelming. It seemed like it was more of a pot roast. Last was a tiny scoop of ice cream, but it was a nice palette cleanser. Overall the courses were timed perfectly. However, I feel the food was not up to par with the description given on the website. I might be inclined to try this restaurant again, when they aren’t overwhelmed.
