Al Vento Ratings and Reviews
We had a Groupon which was good. The meal was WAY over priced. The taste of the food did not match the price. I had a shrimp and pasta that was just okay, the sauce was not great and it was 18$. My husband had the Veal Chop that was good but not $26 good. They need to improve their food or lower their prices.
This isn't my first experience with your restaurant. My two other evenings were very delightful. Unfortunately, our waiter seemed to be a little harried and we wanted to order one course at a time and share them and take our time. He wasnt' as gracious as he could have been. Most of the food was very good but the Fusili with asparagus was pretty awful. The pasta was spongy and we couldn't eat it. A total lack of flavor made it bland also. The ravioli was delicious.
The noise level was almost unbearable also. I hadn't experienced that before. We had a very difficult time hearing each other and had to shout.
Also, I made online reservations and noted that it was a b-day. No candle even though we told our waiter.
Al Vento was all right. The appetizers were the best part of the meal, chard and peccorino, and salmon/ berry bread (forget what it's called.) Our entrees were all right, not worth the prices, since they were not excellent. We had skate, the fish was nice, the risotto was too soft, a bit mushy, flavor overly oniony. We also had veal, and the meat was a little gristly, didn't have terrific flavor, wasn't served hot and was just acceptable. The desserts were ok. We had the chocolate in pastry (textures didn't work too well together, needed more vanilla creme to counterbalance the dense, heavy, bitter chocolate). We also had the tirimisu...all right, but short on mascarpone. I'd only go back for the appetizers. Also, nice waiter.
The menu was somewhat limited and the food was pretty average. We ordered the bruschetta sampler which was too heavily laced with garlic. We also ordered gnocchi, veal pizza and chicken pasta. The chicken pasta and pizza were nice, the gnocchi tasty but a little greasy, and the veal was flavorful although the sauce was too heavy, it masked the meat taste. The price was very reasonable.
My husband and I love Al Vento. It is a special night out, without the formality or fussiness of a destination restaurant. The spaghetti with meatballs is our favorite to share. Monday the mussels served to my husband were so plump and luscious that I wanted some and I don't even like mussels! Our waiter, Tom, was friendly and attentive, but smart enough to leave us alone to unwind before ordering. A great night out, with half-priced bottles of wine an unexpected plus.
This was the third trip to al Vento for my boyfriend and I and, as always, the food was delicious! Unfortunately our service wasn't good on this visit; our server was clearly way too busy to give his attention to us. We waited about 10 min. before he showed up at our table. After taking our order we rarely saw him. The few times he was around he seemed very rushed. It wasn't a problem since they have other people available who quickly refill water and bring food, but it was definitely noticeable. Once or twice he asked how we were doing as he sped by but he didn't stop walking as he asked; he just talked over his shoulder as he passed by. We'll still return since it hasn't been a problem on past visits and we like the food so much.
I've come here often, but this time did not compare to others. The food was overwhelmed with garlic to the point that you couldn't actually taste the food, only the garlic. I hope that it improves back to where it was a year ago when the food was much better.
Great food and cozy atmosphere...we really enjoyed our dinner. Do not go earlier than your reservation b/c the bar area only has six or so spots and there is no waiting area so it was difficult to get a drink and wait for our table without being in the way.
My husband and I enjoyed everything about out first outing to Al Vento. The food was outstanding, there was a fun energy in the restaurant, and the servers were fun and attentive. We really apprecited the attention to detail at all levels. We've been giving our friends and family rave reviews about the restaurant and we look forward to bringing them in to share in the foodie fun.
We've eaten at Al Vento several times and the food has always been outstanding. The service is top notch and the prices are very reasonable as well. The wine list is very good and on Sunday and Monday bottles are 1/2 price. Minneapolis is very lucky to have so many really, really good neighborhood restaurants like Al Vento, Signature Cafe, Duplex, Corner Table, Cafe Maude, Victor's 1959, et al. I have recommended Al Vento to quite a few people and have always gotten great feedback when they've eaten there, too.
Al Vento is one of my favorite places to eat. It's hidden in South Minneapolis, but worth the hunt! They make all their own pasta, sauces, and dishes, and the waitstaff is amazing at wine pairings and romancing the food! The ambiance is subdued, with Tuscan decor and low lighting. Tuesdays are date night, with dinner specials that are the best steal in town. The patio is great in the warmer weather. Go for Brunch Sunday, it is the best deal, amazing food, and bottomless mimosas!!!
I am very fortunate to be within walking distance of Al Vento. It IS a neighborhood gem. I didn't have room to add this comment to "Note to the Restaurant". All Al Vento staff is wonderful, Tom is a favorite. He worked the night of a blizzard last year and because I can walk to Al Vento, I decided to enjoy a dinner, by myself, that night. Tom is like an old friend every time I visit the restaurant - whether for dinner or brunch!
I have lived in the neighborhood for 60+ years and Al Vento is the best restaurant to occupy the corner of 50th Street and 34th Avenue!
We chose to dine here for a special occasion based on a friend's recommendation and were very pleased. The atomosphere was nice and appropriate for a small, neighborhood restaurant with a sophisticated menu.
The food from the truffle packages and bruchetta to the chicken parmesan and shrimp with pasta was entirely wonderful. The tiramisu was spectacular.
I'll be back to sit on the patio and try their pizza in the summer.
