Al Vento is always fantastic! Every time we go I wonder why we don't go more often. It truly is a neighborhood gem that I love to recommend to friends who have never been there before.
Wonderful for a quiet date. Though we were scheduled to arrive at nine and they close at nine, they allowed us to dine at our leisure in spite of the reservation error. This should explain all you need to know about their devotion to the diner. A+ service that you barely realize is there until you need them, often moments before you look for a server. Amazing food. If there's a low point, it's in the somewhat variable crowd (a couple were drunk and loud), but be assured, it was tolerable.
This is our "go to" whenever we want a great meal at a great value. Fresh made makes it good everytime.
Changed a reservation to take out babysitter canceled due to illness all good but they forgot a salad.too late to get another.
Went for valentine's day. We thought the food was good but slightly overpriced for what it was. Not uncommon for a V-day menu though. The covered patio was a little loud when it filled up but it didn't bother us. The inside would've been much quieter if we had wanted it. Overall, had a great time. Looking forward to coming back for their outdoor summer patio and trying their regular menu.
Charming place with a friendly staff......Groovy atmosphere too
We have eaten at Al Vento several times per year for many years, but this was the first time we decided to try their special menu for Valentines Day. My wife had the crab crostini, Ceasar Salad and Salmon while I had the Beef in Tomato juice appetizer, the Ceasar and the Braised Short Ribs. We very much enjoyed all of the courses in our respective meals. Despite every table being filled, the serving staff was very efficient and were always just a step away whenever a course needed to be served, a water glass refilled, a dirty dish cleared. They provided great service and always did so with a smile. Al Vento continues to be one of our favorite restaurants and we highly recommend it to all who are seeking great Italian food at good prices.
It was an amazing time!
Great place to grab a quiet, fancy dinner with your SO. Food was great, service was friendly and amazing - manager made sure to ask us a few times how the night was going so you can definitely tell they care about their patrons. Definitely recommend.
Our dining experience started off great. We arrived 30 minutes early for our reservation due to a snafu in our plans before dinner. They were able to seat us right away which was aweomse and much appreciated. Things went downhill from there. We ordered the calamari to start and it came out overly breaded and over fried. Our server never stopped by to see how it was or how we were doing but a very courteous assistant/busser inquired and we told her we didn’t want it and why and asked her to relay the message to our server. She asked if we wanted a fresh order and we said no, but maybe 7 minutes later another order arrived (not much different from the first), we didn’t eat much at all. Then our entrees came out and my husbands was cold. A man in a sport coat came by and asked how everything was, we told him my husbands meal (spinach ravioli and meatball) was cold and they sent it back to the kitchen to heat it up. Again, our server never stopped by to see how our meal was and didn’t acknowledge the disappointment with our appetizer or entree when she brought the bill. And the bill included the full cost for both of them. Our total bill for an appetizer, soup, two entrees and a glass of wine was around $78 (before tip). We’re used to paying that for a night out but not for underwhelming food and poor service. I must say the assistant/busser was great, just not our actual server. If you’re looking for consistent, tasty Italian food and great service - I’d direct you to Broders, Prima or Bar La Grassa.
We were disappointed in a couple of the entrees. Unfortunate for us the hanger steak was very salty and half our party ordered it and weren’t able to eat it. My husband however was very pleased with his tasting menu and the appetizer of shrimp and calamari was fantastic. Love the atmosphere and will go again and maybe be a little more cautious and ask more questions when ordering.
I had been here previously for date nights and it was amazing. This past time, was just okay. Our server was impeccable and the food was great, but we were there (a group of six) celebrating a special occasion and were crammed up front near the hostess desk. There were people hitting my mother in law with their coats and forcing themselves in the small space between her and the hostess desk waiting for their tables, as there isn't an official waiting area. I had only sat in the back room previously and this was my in laws first time visiting the restaurant, so we were all taken aback by the experience. It was just frustrating because reservations were recommended and the hostess continued taking walk-ins when there was no space for them to wait. During this time, she never apologized to our table for our inconvenience. My advice, request a table in the back room, otherwise, it'll ruin your experience.
We really enjoyed our evening here. The building is beautiful and cozy and the menu had some fun cocktails and amazing food choices.
Everything was great from the service to the food...we will be back
4 course wine dinner was great. Food was imaginative, and paired well with the wine. Portions were generous for that many courses.
Great food. We been to your place about 20 times- always good. We had a wild 18 month old child but were there very early and staff seemed forgiving .
Probably extra busy due to The Super Bowl
Good food. Great service. Nice Italian flair with fresh in house prepared food.
Loved our waiter—
Very good food. The service was not good. It took 15 minutes to get a Manhattan. Slow and unwelcoming beginning left a poor image.
We have friends in town for super bowl. Enjoyed an un-rushed meal with very good service. I had been wanting to dine here for a while and this was an excellent choice for the occasion. Nice to have dining like this in a neighborhood setting.
Every time I go to al Vento the food is amazing, the service is wonderful and I love the atmosphere. The menu changes often so there’s always something new to discover. The scallops with spinach risotto were divine!
Great birthday party
The food was fine but nothing to write home about. I know this is supposed to be a more upscale/special place and it does have a nice feel. We had bruschetta, which was good and a Neapolitain Pizza, which was pretty bland. The gnocci were good but also nothing to rave about. We would definitely go back but probably not necessarily because we were overwhelmed by how great the food is there.
This is a great small neighborhood Italian restaurant with great food & decent wine list. We all had the special BOGO spaghetti & meat balls. It was exceptional
Warm friendly neighborhood restaurant. Very good Italian
All was good. Waiter could have been more attentive, but did enough to satisfy us.
My family and I dined in at Al Vento for the first time for my birthday. We were extremely kind, patient, and understanding that they had another large party to tend to on that night too, so they were busy. We didn’t demand for anything and waited patiently. Our server was really kind and tried his best to be attentive. We didn’t receive our food until an hour later. Our food was undercooked and under seasoned. My pasta was still really hard. Our food presentation was really poorly done when compared to other customers sitting in the surrounding tables. The worst part was that my aunt’s dish was covered in vegetables and sauce, so after she took a few bites out of dish, she told us something didn’t seem right. The lighting was dim, so I pulled out my phone light to check the chicken and it was still RAW. The server was kind enough to make the meal free for my aunt, and offered another order for her, but we declined. We just told them to make sure it doesn’t happen to other costumers. We still tipped well even though the manager didn’t bother to come apologize to us. We saw and heard our server tell his manager about what happened, but the manager just ignored us for the rest of the night. He would walk past our table, greet other people, but ignore us. We figured he probably didn’t want to deal with it. The chef didn’t come apologize either. The food was poorly done, and we were really disrespected, the only person who was really kind to us was our server. It was quite a disappointing experience since everyone gave Al Vento such a high praise and reviews online. We most likely will never dine in at Al Vento again.
You can't miss at Al Vento. We had an offer for spaghetti and meatballs which I usually don't get in favor of something that is uniquely theirs. But this was so delicious and the service so gracious, I can't say enough how lovely this spot is.
I took my brother since he wanted to sample good Italian food in the Twin Cities. He wasn't disappointed. We had a great meal of appetizers, pasta, and excellent (and not too expensive) wine.
I used the love the buffet brunch at Al Vento, and I wish they still had it available. The family style brunch is not nearly as good a value--the options are limited and the way the courses are arranged didn't make sense. For the first course, we got a small plate of meat and cheese, but no bread to go with it. For the second course, it was all bread and potatoes with nothing to put on the bread. It took a long time to get drinks and the check. I wouldn't go back to Al Vento for this menu.
Went on a Saturday night and it was a very awesome meal. The bartender takes pride in the way he fixed our drinks before sitting down for dinner. The food.... Superb!
This is where I go with my friend who has lived in Italy with an Italian mother. He loves going here and always tells me that the food reminds him of home as it is as authentic Italian as you can get this side of the Atlantic. We always do the Tasting Meal, which at $35/4 courses is a great value for great food.
I always find the staff wonderful. The only "drawback" on the recent visit was that it was busier than usual so the volume was a bit high.
In the summer, sit on the patio!
Did was very good and we enjoyed our evening
Great food & great drinks. Superb service. We requested and were seated at a quiet table away from serving stations and foot traffic. Very enjoyable.
This is a very small neighborhood place that was worth the 1/2 hour wait after our reserved time. Service was relaxed and personal with a young energetic staff. Be prepared to stand if you need to wait for table since their bar only has a few seats. The tiramesou was the best! This was a great find and I’ll be back soon
Al Ventro was just alright, which, for the price is disappointing. The atmosphere is fun and it has the feeling of a cute, cozy, romantic, bustling Italian bistro which I did enjoy. The service was just so-so, the side staff (water, food runners etc) was excellent however our waiter was really disappointing. We chose to do the tasting menu but we hadnt been there before and the waiter seemed surprised that we were unsure how to order for the tasting menu and just expected we knew exactly what to do. One of the descriptions for a menu item I was intersted in was really vague so I asked a question about it and he had no idea how to describe it even though it was a special on their tasting menu. I think he forgot to put our order in because it took quite a while to come out, which we didn’t mind because we weren’t in a hurry, but then he didn’t check on us at all until the 3rd course came out. The back-staff was much more attentive and if we could have directly tipped them instead we would have. Most of this I could honestly overlook but the food wasn’t anything special. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t anything special. The appetizers were the best part and my fiancé had the chicken soup which was good and obviously made fresh in house. The shrimp salad I had was extremely acidic as was the sauce on the short ribs. My entree which were mushroom filled crepes with a bechemel was extremely bland and very underwhelming. Overall, I don’t think it’s worth the money as it was fairly expensive which I don’t mind but I expect the service to be at least good and the food better than mediocre.
Not as good as it once was. We were both disappointed with our NYE dinner and were there before the rush.
As always, we had a great experience. Service was outstanding.
The table was not in a good location, right in front of the door that leads to the parking lot so vehicle headlights kept shining into my friend’s eyes. The music was a little loud-not to mention strange funky disco music-but the waiter turned it down for us when we requested. Also our table was right under the speaker. A note that there was a Malbec wine on the menu that indicated it is from France, but the Malbec grape is from Argentina. Thought that was weird. There was also a fist fight right in front of the restaurant as I arrived which was out of the ordinary for the area. The food was fantastic, I had the chicken with cauliflower which was top notch, I ate every last bite! Next time I will just make sure to ask for a table that is not near that door.
