Our bartender was a rock star
There are a lot of snack options on the menu, but very few dinner options. The food was good, but the menu was too casual for what I expected. I had been to Salvation Taco many times, and I have been to Empellon. Without reviewing the menu (my mistake), I assumed this would be ST elevated by the Empellon touch. It is not that. Also, the margaritas were terrible. Our server was lovely, but the drink service was very slow.
It would have been good if there was more vegetarian options..otherwise the food was good..overall a good experience
The food was just ok on average. Very good guacamole but way too chewy and garlicky ribs. Decent curly fries and nothing special tacos al pastor. Decent drinks. I expected something a little more like a real restaurant; this felt more like a bar that happens to serve some food.
Serving overpriced shot glass sized margaritas, this places truly knows how to grind my gears. Not only has this restaurant ruined margaritas for me, but my mouth is still in the process of cooling off from the sweet potato tacos I ate. The wait staff is great, love them, but however they did ask me if I wanted chips and gauc as if it was complementary although contrary to the check it was otherwise ($15). 4 tacos, 4 drinks and chips will put you down $100.
Had a great dinner at Al Pastor @ Pod 39 Sunday night! Highlights of the meal were the cheeseburger tacos and the wings with brown butter macha sauce! I highly recommend checking out this location as well as all the other Empellón establishments!
We had a great time at this restaurant and everyone there was so accommodating! We had a rather large group of people (8) and even though I originally made the reservation for 7, they were able to accommodate an extra person. It is a great, chic spot in an area where there may not be that many trendy restaurants.
The food was great, especially for a group of people. We ordered guacamole, chicken wings, french fries, and one of every taco available and it was perfect to share with a large group (of people with varying dietary restrictions!) The drinks were great as well (I loved the shot and chaser pairings!).
The restaurant is very trendy and cool. I was shocked that this place only opened recently because everything ran pretty smoothly. I had been here multiple times before when it was Salvation Taco and I can't wait till it gets warmer and the roofdeck is open.
All in all, a great spot especially for large groups of people!
Bad food! Bad service! Bad Margaritas! Though Al Pastor is part of the Empellon (which is good) this was not!! That's all...
Or very authentic. Very small selection. Place was cold.
The menu has changed and it’s awful. I loved the previous menu and I now can taste the budget cut. I will only come back for drinks and the rooftop.
With kids. Got table in lounge area and worked out really well
The simple fish taco was amazing here, perfect blend of spice and creamy fish sauce, paired with the white Pinot Gris and some guacamole and chips, an excellent meal. The oysters with cheese and bacon were decadent and delicious too!
What happened to salvation taco.... menu with curly fries?!?!? Wtf?
Former glory has faded
Staff is still great tho!
I love this place because it is so simple and yet so fun. They have every ingredient possible to put in a taco. THere is actual food on the menu that doesn't involve a taco so do not be afraid. The service is great and it is casual and fun. I will be back there and love the roof top when in season.
Over all was a good time however the manager there was rude about adding a table when our server added and extra table. Didn’t even say sorry or something. Also when we go there they has a coat hanging place in the back however they moved it in couple hours didn’t tell us. We found out when leaving they were stacked on a chair in front not even hung! Food was good !
Salvation Taco is a great option for a casual, tasty and healthy lunch or dinner near Grand Central. The food is very good and the service is great. There's a fun after work bar scene as well.
Fun atmosphere, delicious cocktails and tacos.
Food and drinks were great but our table was CRAZY small. Not enough room for more than two plates and a couple of glasses. Had to place water bottle o the floor. The other tables around us complained of the same thing. Food was good and guacamole was amazing.
The most random menu, and the worst fish tacos. They should be called fish corn dogs. No thanks!
The food and drinks were great but it was very loud. Definitely somewhat of a bar/club atmosphere due to the noise level but I would definitely go back just for the nachos
I loved the mezcal frozen pina coladas. It was such a unique taste. They were delicious and the cheeseburger tacos were amazing!!
We hadn't even stepped inside when the bouncer demanded we show our IDs. First, I've never been carded at a restaurant before. Second, to ask for our IDs before we even got inside and before we gave our name to the hostess was bizarre- we aren't criminals. Third, my husband and I (yes, we are old enough to have been married for two years, it's not like I'm an 18-year-old NYU kid) don't drink for religious reasons, so the exercise was pointless. Fourth, I didn't like getting my wrist stamped like I was at a club. Fifth, the bouncer didn't check the IDs of the family that came in after us with children, so I'm not sure why we were singled out.
It was mediocre Mexican food for New York; in California, it would be considered downright bad. Our waitress was nice, but she seemed inexperienced; she'd check in to see how the food was, but wouldn't refill our drinks. At one point, a busboy took my husband's water away long before we finished eating, and then my husband never got a soda refill. The people seated next to us who were drinking alcohol didn't get much better beverage service either.
I have a feeling this place is only in business because of its rooftop bar's popularity in the summer. I'll admit, the vibe is cool, but not cool enough to outweigh everything else. Given how empty it was on a Saturday night, it seems others agree.
We were visiting from out of town and our flight attendant recommended we try this place, we are so glad we did!! We came early for drinks before our reservation and the bartenders were personable and very fun! The food was delicious and atmosphere was very fun! The rooftop bar was unfortunately closed due to weather, but we hope to visit again and try it out!
Waitress was great. Busboy kept taking things off table without asking if we were done and we weren’t (unfinished drinks, chips, water pitcher)
Great food and atmosphere. Service was outstanding!
Nothing insanely special about this place. Pretty good tacos but not really worth the price if you’re not going to the roof top.
Two words: Tacos Arabes Oh. My. God.
Smelled like stale beer when walking in. No hostess......the bartender had to find her. Server never came. We almost left but a manager came and took our order saying the server was busy even though there was hardly anyone there. My wife ordered a rosé and was brought tequila in a wine glass. The bartender said the lighting made it hard to see the different bottles.
Food was great. I wish it was available from a truck or a stand so I could enjoy it again without having to go back to the restaurant.
First time there after hearing about it for a while. Excellent food, will go back again. Cheeseburger tacos=Awesome!
Very cute place, especially for photo opportunities. Food was good as well!
Guacamole and chips were great but rice was burnt and tacos were just average. The service was horrible - food came out 15 minutes a part and wait staff kept forgetting things. Ambiance is great and roof was Awesome
Service was really slow. We went on a Friday after work at 5pm. There were probably 5 other tables with people in our section.
Great rooftop with a stellar view. Strong drinks and amazing tacos! Great place for a lively group get together or a night out.
Every visit here prices go up , portions get smaller and quality goes down
Overpriced and uninspiring food
Big disappointment to be honest. Food was not great and expensive. Drinks were astronomically priced for what you got. The 2 of us had two drinks each ($60) shared Rib Carnitas and some rubbery version of cheese sticks and each had one fish taco (frozen fish thing on a bed of mayo and lettuce served on a rubbery corn tortilla) and the bill was $120. They were out of items and you could hear the patrons beside us ask for things and were just told “no we don’t have that” tho it’s on the menu. Very uncomfortable seating. Would not recommend.
Service was horrible and inept. Forgot half of our order. Didn’t apologize or handle appropriately.
Restaurant was also empty but the hostess sat a group of loud cursing idiots directly next to my table of 2.
The menu is extremely limited, the food is expensive, and the service is inattentive. Definitely would not recommend.
Food used to be good when April Bloomfield ran the kitchen. It is quite bad now and everything is overly sweetened.
Food was great. Service, however, was not good. Seemed like everyone around us was being attended to normally except us. Had to flag down to get our orders taken, to get plates removed, to get water. Maybe it was a busy day, but even then it was bad. Will try again because the food was pretty good.
The food was very good but the choice in the menu was reduced compared to the lunch. Small portions, high price.
Service very quick, too quick. We ate in half an hour
