About Al Di La
Al Di La is a neighborhood restaurant serving simple, authentic Northern Italian cuisine. At Al Di La we strive to create a seasonally-inspired menu comprised of fresh, mainly local ingredients. We are an owner-operated establishment serving both lunch and dinner.
Some features of Al Di La: handmade pasta selections, fresh daily-baked focaccia bread, delicate desserts prepared on-site, an extensive Italian wine list, a wine bar, and two outdoor patios. Guests also have the choice of enjoying wood-fired pizzette, Italian cheeses, meats, and vegetables to name a few. Join us anytime and prepare to get away, or as 'al di la' translates to mean, prepare to go 'beyond the beyond.'

Al Di La Ratings and Reviews
Went for restaurant week because I really had a taste for Italian. The food was just alright. Showed up on time for my 9pm reservation but wasn't seated until almost 9:30 and that was after they seated a couple who had an 8:45 reservation who didn't show up until around 9:10 or so. Looks like you can show up 30 minutes later for your reservation and still be seated in front of others, so I guess thats a plus.
My wife and I ate at Al Di La for the first time recently. We had reservations for 8:00 on a Friday night. The restaurant was packed and we did have a short wait for a table. We both enjoyed the food and service very much. It is a small restaurant so tables are close together but I personally enjoyed the atmosphere. I was impressed with the organization and efficiency of the staff. Parking is an issue. It really was one of the best dining experiences I've had.
The Meatball app was good. The entrees were mediocre. They ran out of tiramisu and substituted cannolis. The shells were okay but were minimally filled with flavorless whipped cream. The service was ridiculously slow. 3 of the 5 left saying they would not go back.
7:30 pm reservation, was sat at 8. Hung out at the bar waiting on our table and couldn’t get a drink. Two barkeeps and horrible service, I literally received my drink right before being sat. It wasn’t overly crowded but extremely noisy. Food was subpar for and “ authentic Italian “ restaurant. My experience at La Fontana in West Ashley was 1000% better. First and only time dining here.
It was very disappointing. I've been to the restaurant several times before and loved it. Many of the menu items were not available. A friend of mine does not eat shrimp because of her religion and asked if it could be switched to chicken. She was informed that it would be a $5.00 up charge for chicken. Chicken is cheaper than the shrimp, not to mention this was a customer request denied by the chef. They were also "low" on duck confit and the chef asked if he could add chicken to it. The entire dish was chicken and they had to pay the same amount. Only two orders came out the way they were supposed to. I will not be back, nor will I recommend people to go there. This makes me upset considering how much I have enjoyed coming here with my friends.
What stood out to us was the excellent service. We were seated immediately and our server was outstanding. I had the NY Strip special and my wife had the Gnocchi. Both were very good. Plenty of food and very fair prices. We shared a slice of cheesecake which was delicious. Valet parking available. We will visit again and try more of the menu.
Probably the best Italian in the Charleston area. Always a fresh menu with excellent staff and service. Great location in Avondale with decent prices. A treat to bring in company from out of town, impress a first date, or bring the family in for a nice meal.
We have enjoyed this restaurant several times now; this was probably our fifth visit. We live outside of Beaufort, but drive up to Charleston at least once a month for appointments, visits with friends, shopping, etc. We think the food at Al Di La is among the best in the area, and enjoy the sense of being in a regional neighborhood Italian Restaurant. Our server was very friendly and helpful with making our selections.
We had a very enjoyable evening again at Al do La's and wonderful conversation with Antonio and Alfonzo about the olde country and our connections. The food was absolutely outstanding and service even better. This is one of our most favorite dinning places in Charleston. Definitely reminds me of our vacations in Italia. Can't wait to return!! Gracia molto!!!
Lovely evening at Al Do La! Food was excellent and service was great. Sat outside and enjoyed our meal. If I had something that could be improved - it isn't easy to see the restaurant as you drive through the mad traffic. Be sure and valet! The only way to go. Also, there were a lot of folks (us included) that couldn't figure out which door to go in. It works out, either appear to work. We did see one gentleman give up and saunter off.
Delicious food, intimate romantic setting! Loved my entree (ricotta and marscapone gnocchi with shrimp) and all the other dishes we had were so so so yummy! Waiter could have been more attentive to our drinks but honestly everyone was so nice and the food was so good that it didn't bother me at all. DEFINITELY coming back in the future.
