Not as good as it was prior to the ownership change. I have other Italian options that are now more appealing.
Our waitress was not attentive, our food was delivered almost 20 min apart from the other people in my party, did not check on us to see if we needed drinks. The food was good, it is a shame the service was so poor.
Limited menu of popular Italian entrees, but each excellently done. Portions generpus but not overwhelming. Friendly casual atmosphere! Great service !
My husband and I chose Al Di La to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We give the experience a solid B. The service was average. The food, was good. Not great and certainly nothing special.
Our server was fantastic!! Food was mediocre for Italian in Charleston!
This was out first time dining here. The food was great and the place was packed. Hostess and owner spoke with lots of folks, so this must be a place locals visit again and again. We will too!
Noise level very high
Will not go on a Sat nite too crowded
But food and service was excellent!
Menu was limited, risotto was mushy. Appetizer was a tasty tomato, cheese and crab
Problem in kitchen slowed everything; when it arrived, food very good. Management comped some things.
The dinner was “okay”. The calamari appetizer was nothing special. I really wanted the lasagna but they sold out 😔 the night before. Would probably go again if I knew that they had it. Took a little longer than it should have to get our food. They did comp us some delicious meatballs.
For Italian food this side of Italy, the food is very authentic. The meatballs were very tender and the marinara was a little spicy, but not too spicy. Everyone in out party enjoyed their entrees. Our waiter, Mike, was very personable. All in all, would highly recommend.
To begin, waitress was very sweet & did everything that she should have to make this a pleasant experience. Although the restaurant was almost empty (Saturday night), the food took a very long time to be prepared. The focaccia which used to be served warm, was brought out completely cold. It has such good flavor, that it was still good. One of us ordered the restaurant week meal. The appetizer was good & plentiful. The main course, which was cavatelli pasta w/ eggplant was very tasty. Only problem was that the portion of pasta was the equivalent of 1/4 of a cup, remaining plate was sauce & a bit of eggplant. Other meal was fine. Tiramisu was OK. The price for the meal was way too high for what we were served.
We were told that new owners took over about 6 months ago & are hoping to work things out. Good luck.
The quality of the dish that were ordered was terrible.
Always amazing food! Downtown quality without the hassle of going downtown.
We dined here for my husband’s birthday and they were participating in Charleston Restaurant Week. Good food for good value but I would like to return to try something off of the regular menu. My only disappointment: They were out of riesling. The server and manager were extremely pleasant.
We were given the best table in the house, over looking the rest of the dining room. The service was first rate the food was good but my entre chicken parmigiana was good but it needed a topping of marinara sauce to complete the dish. My wife had a shrimp dish that needed a bit more sauce also. The price was fair and yes I would try them again in the future
We had a reservation for 7 and still didn’t have food at 8. We left within eating. Place is VERY noisy
Service was slow. Noise was unbearable.
Good was delicious and the service was beyond compare. The whole experience was wonderful.
We enjoyed our meal and our server was spectacular! The only reason to lose 1 Star for value was because we felt that the portions were slightly smaller than what we expected. We’ll definitely be going back!
We had a delightful dining experience. A little jewel in Avondale. The valet parking was greatly appreciated as well.
Cacio e Pepe was wonderful, cocktails very good, and Ricardo, our server, was wonderful.
The menu is nothing that you see online. Appetizers were good. The s trees not so good. The eggplant Parmesan was soggy watery mushy. I had the shrimp dish it was good but smelled a little fishy. The service was excellent. Small menu. Not sure we would return.
Somewhat disappointed in our evening here although our server did the best she could and was apologetic. Food was ok, but took too long to come out of the kitchen due to ‘back up’ ...Restaurant was not overly full and I didn’t notice a sudden onslaught of guests arriving at the same time. I guess too many tables ordered at the same time...
Good food tonight. Not entirely mind blowing. Enjoyed it and will keep coming back.
Haven't been here in a while. It use to be one my favorite Italian restaurants for a fair price In my opinion it continues to progress downwards each time I go. Not sure what has happened.
Great food and easy access. Nice find in a quiet neighborhood.
Had a wonderful meal in a beautiful space with e xcel lent service. A family favorite.
Great anniversary dinner!
Terrible since the ownership & chef changed. Same name but not the same restaurant.
while i don't know for sure, our experience at Al Di LA suggested they have new owners. I was told they have a new exec chef. I didn't inquire about the restaurants ownership. But overall the changes are not for the better.
The food is what alway brought us there, particularly the penne pasta with spicy italian sausage. It got removed from the menu with the change of chef I was told. The rigatoni i did have was rubbery, a bit too large, and the braised oxtail mixed wth it was soggy and lacking flavor.
I've taken this place off my short list of go-to restaurants for Italian
Expensive and unimpressive. Shrimp tagliatelle was dry and flavorless. Service is below par. Overpriced
Food was delicious and pasta was definitely made in-house, service was friendly and attentive even on a busy Saturday night. Atmosphere was decorated nicely and the noise level was high but was not interrupting of conversation. The dining space has enough room in-between tables to not hear the conversation next to you. Loved everything about the dining experience.
Overall good! To much pepper in the meal.
Service was really good - our server was very attentive and asked if we needed help with wine selections, etc. The food was good, but portions were on the smaller side. 2 of the 4 people in our party had chicken parmigiana (what Italian restaurant doesn’t have veal parmigiana?) and the pasta was dry - both had to ask for sauce to moisten it. One person had eggplant parmigiana and although tasty, it was literally ONE piece of eggplant. ONE. I have never had parmigiana that wasn’t layered. Good but not completely filling.
Our first time there celebrating both our birthdays and our anniversary! We wanted something special. From out of state and relying on reviews and the internet menu, I had pre-chosen a particular dish, since I don't eat meat. We found the service to be slow and we were informed by the waitress (who was very pleasant), as we were about to order, that she had just found out that the gnocchi would not be available because the chef screwed up and it was not fit to serve. I have never heard of this happening, especially for an established restaurant.
We chose to leave but the waitress offered an alternative. Because of a miscommunication, I could not eat it. She offered something else but my husband was already eating and we had been waiting long enough. It was a nightmare! And, our dream of celebrating was over. They took it off our check and we left without any Birthday or Anniversary good wishes. I would not recommend this restaurant.
We enjoyed our evening at Al Di La this past weekend. Our server was attentive. The kitchen made sure we had delicious tasting dairy-free meals. They were especially accommodating. My pasta with mushrooms was excellent without any cheese mixed in. My husband had the oxtail and pasta with a tomato sauce, because the marinara had a bit of cream in it. And it was a perfect evening to sit outside and enjoy the quiet.
Not our first time here, so we already knew we liked the food. But we hadn’t been in a while, so we were reminded of the simple menu and focus on seasonal items, all in a relaxing/unrushed atmosphere. We especially enjoyed our server, Ricardo! Great service and so friendly! He really made our experience fabulous!
We made a last minute reservation online after a long absence and was pleasantly impressed! The food was wonderful, service was good and we could hear each other! Under new ownership and looking forward to another visit soon!
Great waiter Daniel provided service and knew a lot about wine
