About Al Di La

Al Di La is a neighborhood restaurant serving simple, authentic Northern Italian cuisine. At Al Di La we strive to create a seasonally-inspired menu comprised of fresh, mainly local ingredients. We are an owner-operated establishment serving both lunch and dinner.

Some features of Al Di La: handmade pasta selections, fresh daily-baked focaccia bread, delicate desserts prepared on-site, an extensive Italian wine list, a wine bar, and two outdoor patios. Guests also have the choice of enjoying wood-fired pizzette, Italian cheeses, meats, and vegetables to name a few. Join us anytime and prepare to get away, or as 'al di la' translates to mean, prepare to go 'beyond the beyond.'

Al DI LA is our favorite Italian restaurant. The banquette tables are so romantic! The food never disappoints us.

We have enjoyed this restaurant several times now; this was probably our fifth visit. We live outside of Beaufort, but drive up to Charleston at least once a month for appointments, visits with friends, shopping, etc. We think the food at Al Di La is among the best in the area, and enjoy the sense of being in a regional neighborhood Italian Restaurant. Our server was very friendly and helpful with making our selections.

We had a very enjoyable evening again at Al do La's and wonderful conversation with Antonio and Alfonzo about the olde country and our connections. The food was absolutely outstanding and service even better. This is one of our most favorite dinning places in Charleston. Definitely reminds me of our vacations in Italia. Can't wait to return!! Gracia molto!!!

Lovely evening at Al Do La! Food was excellent and service was great. Sat outside and enjoyed our meal. If I had something that could be improved - it isn't easy to see the restaurant as you drive through the mad traffic. Be sure and valet! The only way to go. Also, there were a lot of folks (us included) that couldn't figure out which door to go in. It works out, either appear to work. We did see one gentleman give up and saunter off.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in the Avondale neighborhood. We love to sit on the patio for dinner. The Ricotta Gnocchi is my favorite! :)

When we walked in the manager/host was too busy making sure the empty tables were just so while we had to wait at the door for at least 5 minutes. We had 730 reservations and were not sat down yet @ 815 so we left.

Delicious food, intimate romantic setting! Loved my entree (ricotta and marscapone gnocchi with shrimp) and all the other dishes we had were so so so yummy! Waiter could have been more attentive to our drinks but honestly everyone was so nice and the food was so good that it didn't bother me at all. DEFINITELY coming back in the future.

Al di la is a great place to take a date. The food is exceptional and it's hard to resist sharing. The wine list is full of Italian varieties hay you may not have tried before, and the staff is always happy to lead you to something you'll like.

We try to visit several times each year and enjoy restaurant week here twice a year. Excellent food reasonably priced with good service. Great variety for restaurant week with good size portions. Filet was one of the best and most tender I have had. My wife enjoyed the chicken parm.

Everything was great from the moment Giovanni, our waiter, met us at the door, got us seated immediately, and explained the menu. Food and drink was way above the average fare found in most restaurants.

I would recommend Al Di La for the fresh pasta and the great value. Unfortunately, the restaurant is small, and the tables are very close together. The noise level can get quite loud, so I would prefer to return as a party of 2, no more than 4. Our particular dinner was very good, but the service was terrible. First, we had to ask if there were any specials. When our wine bottle, drinks, and waters were empty, we had to go ask the hostess to find our server. Though the food came out in a timely manner, we had nothing to drink between the apps and the meal. It also took the server a long time to clear the plates between courses. For such a small place, I would have expected better service. I would still return for my favorites on the menu: the meatballs, beef carpaccio, and gnocchi.

The food was great. Both my wife and I had the Vodka Penne with spicy Italian sausage. This was just excellent and was not too spicy. Well worth a visit. The only complaint is the lack of parking in the area.

Al Di La has been a wonderful favorite for years. It's a well known fixture in the Charleston West Ashley area and beats dealing with the traffic and trying to find parking downtown. The food is very special and all at our table loved their choices.

Very good service. The personnel are very friendly and make you feel welcome. The interior is nice. The food was the best Italian food I have eaten since I was in Italy. Everything is homemade including the pasta. Best ever!!

My Italian father was in town and he always likes to have an Italian night and get something with "red" sauce! Great menu here. Chic decor. LOVE the booth seats. Olive oil for bread was incredible in flavor. Waiter was part italian and very attentive and gave special entertainment for my 20 month old who loves to go out to dinner. I got the steak and my husband got the bolognese bc we couldn't decide so we got the best of both worlds. Went back the NEXT day for take out bc Im pregnant and craving the bolognese flavor with their homemade fettuccine pasta. Hubby drove 25 minutes just to go get it! They tossed in some olive oil and bread as I requested. PERFECT!!

My wife, my brother, his wife and I all live in the area and my sister was visiting from Las Vegas. We wanted to have a nice dinner at a casual place. We used to frequent Al Di La and liked it, but hadn't been there in several years; we knew it had a "new" owner so we thought we'd give it a try. We were thoroughly disappointed. The restaurant was terribly noisy and the decor was tired and worn. Our server was a new hire who aimed to please but wasn't really knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered cocktails and they were well made and timely served. We ordered a bottle of wine (Chianti Classico), and an inferior wine (Chianti) was served without any mention of the substitution. For appetizers, three of us ordered what the menu described as a "Roasted Beet Salad," which in Charleston typically means a salad composed of several types of roasted beets. We were served an arugula salad with chopped red beets that appeared to be from a can. One guest had carpaccio as her appetizer and enjoyed it very much; and one had the steamed mussels, which she said were served in a very "fishy" sauce. For the main course, one of us ordered the Chicken Parmigiana that the menu said was served with "fresh tonnarelli pasta." Being unfamiliar with tonnarelli pasta, we asked the server for a description, and she informed us that it was "thicker than spaghetti." Our guest was served a very fine pasta that looked like spagetinni; and it was room temperature with a very watery tasting red sauce. And it didn't taste like "fresh pasta." Two of our party had the steak that was on the menu and both enjoyed the meat, but found the accompanying mashed potatoes to be unappetizing and lumpy. I love cioppino and was excited when I learned it was a "fish of the day," but was soon disappointed when served a dish that looked more like seafood giambotta than cioppino—fully half of the dish was large chunks of potato and carrots! And the seafood was all overcooked. We won't be back.
