Al Di La
Some features of Al Di La: handmade pasta selections, fresh daily-baked focaccia bread, delicate desserts prepared on-site, an extensive Italian wine list, a wine bar, and two outdoor patios. Guests also have the choice of enjoying wood-fired pizzette, Italian cheeses, meats, and vegetables to name a few. Join us anytime and prepare to get away, or as 'al di la' translates to mean, prepare to go 'beyond the beyond.'
Excellent service. Excellent food. Comfortable seating. Only complaint (very minor at that), kept the door open as it was a nice day, some small flies buzzing about our wine bottle.
Will definitely be back.
I have been to other Italian places I the area and love them both
This place was okay. Can’t say that I’ll go back. Rather go to one of 2 other Italian places that I think are definitely better even though they are a little farther away.
Decor (walls) were too busy. Service was good, not great. Food was the same: chicken parm was lacking - just came with spaghetti noodles that you can cook at home and wasn’t a lot of, chicken was a larger but thin piece and breading on it was the best part. Meatball appetizer didn’t taste good to me, other guest liked it. While the bruschetta was good, I’ve had better and more creative flavors elsewhere. Other guest got the sausage penne and said it was good.
I think Mondo’s on James Island and the Wild Olive on Johns Island are way better. And would recommend either of these 2 places over Al di La any day.
I had to write a review after just returning from there cause I could not believe the cost for so little food. Wife got a beet salad for around $10, it was on a small 7” plate. I got the chicken parmigiana for around $20, a small piece of chicken with about a coffee cup size of spaghetti next to it. This would be a child’s plate at most restaurants. Not only that, the spaghetti had a orange looking sauce that looked and tasted like chef-boy-r-dee spaghetti-o’s, I kid you not! Cause I have consumed that can of spaghetti about a month ago, and remember vividly what it tastes like, and this was it! Not much forethought in preparing Italian dishes at this place and I have eaten at a lot of Italian restaurants and this place is NO Italian restaurant. Shame on them. We left there Hungry! Total for bill was $42 with included glass of wine that was $8, and it was only 1/4 full! The only reason I did not refuse our food when it was brought to the table is because we were there using a gift certificate someone gave us. If I had to pay my own money, I would have walked out. The service was fine, I don’t blame the servers, I blame the owner for scamming people out of their money. Anyone with any sense will not go back, and if you don’t get repeat customer business your restaurant is doomed.
Experience wasn't as good as during Restaurant Week. Pasta with scallops and lobster cream sauce just generic; not enough sauce. My husband and I ate only half of our servings. We should have split the entree or ordered something else. Burrata caprese salad was delicious!
Wonderful service and people and outstanding food that was up to par with my Italian grandmother’s cooking (if anyone can do that than the food is out of this world). Will most definitely be returning! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
My Father is more than particular about Italian cuisine and I thought we would have a good dinner at Al Di La. WOW! Giovanni our server was fantastic with great recommendations and conversation. The food was fantastic and we enjoyed our dinner. I hate telling people how good the meal and service was because soon after my lesser known favorite places will be popular thereby making it more difficult for me to get availability. The fact is that our entire dinner experience was amazing and the restaurant needs to be recognized. Thanks for reading my 2¢.
Food was good, but the waiter was very busy and therefore service suffered greatly. He was pleasant though.
We used to Love Al-di-La. I feel like it is not the same as it was years ago. I always loved the gnocchi. I have not been there in about a year as we were disappointed the last few times we had been there. The gnocchi itself is delicious. I wish they spent the money on quality shrimp. I can only describe them as dirty tasting, maybe not cleaned well enough. I ate all my gnocchi and ended up throwing out the shrimp. My husband loved his vegetables, enjoyed them more than the steak! The bread is always delicious, and we had great service. Overall we gave it another try, but probably won't be back soon.
This restaurant offered a nice cozy atmosphere for a few of our office staff to share a meal on Saturday evening. The service was excellent and the food was very fresh and was full of Italian flavor.
This continues to be one of my favorite hidden gems in Charleston. The food is spectacular, wine list is excellent and the servers are fun and helpful. A few of my favorites - burratta, gnocchi, beet salad and the risotto of the day. This place is on par or better than downtown restaurants and about half the price. Great place for a date night.
Excellent food and service. Ask for the rosemary bread. It is the best...just melts in your mouth.
The food was delicious! And the service was wonderful from the moment we were seated until we left, so friendly and efficient. We will definitely be dining here again!
The venue was great, good ambiance and noise level.
However, the service was poor - not very attentive and they pushed back our orders due to a group of 30 people. We waited over an hour for our food and during that time they never asked to refill our drinks and even ran out of bread for the tables.
Ordered the gnocchi with shrimp - shrimp was penny size, definitely from the frozen section at Costco, and chewy as rubber. To top it off, it was served luke-warm. Highly disappointed after hearing great things over the last few years. Will not be returning.
Wonderful as always. Server was Forest, very well done.
Thought the Risotto dried out pretty quickly, no "slide" to it, but scallops were perfect.
I was on a father daughter date and the food was outstanding. The waitress forgot my drink twice and after dinner coffee which was disappointing. Otherwise the food was great and I will return.
The food was incredible. The wine that was recommended to us was very good as well. I look forward to going back.
Always a winner with Givannia and Gussepi in charge
Exceptional food and service! We will certainly be booking our next reservation soon!
This is my third visit in three months. I keep bringing new people here to try the amazing food!! The staff is ALWAYS delightful.
Our dinner was good but not spectacular. Service was wonderful. We didn't like the meatball appetizer but enjoyed the spaghetti with meat sauce and Chicken parm dinner. They did substitute the vodka sauce for the chicken parm as requested. Parking is difficult but there is a valet if interested.
My guest was pleased with her meal of scallops. My meal was a bowl of pasta with "vodka sauce" which had a rather gooey, nothing taste.
We love this restaurant. It has exceeded our expectations every time. The food is exceptional as well as the service. The portions are generous and we always have left overs to take home. We love the mussell and bruchetta appetizers. The sausage penne pasta is a family favorite. This is an Italian gem in West Ashley.
This was our first visit to Al Di La and it won’t be our last. From the service to the food everything was fabulous. Wonderful menu and wine list. I had the tagliatelle with duck confit and it was superb. We visited on a busy evening/weekend but you never would have known it as they did a flawless job.
Good section, kind waiter. Good food.
We have eaten at Al Di La many times, and have always enjoyed it.
Everything was great. Server forgot one of our appetizers but was very apologetic. Brought it right out. My only real concern was it was clear that the waiter was giving his attention most to certain demographics over others. I know tips are how he makes a living but he wasn't very attentive to us and we tipped great so it's not always who you think Its going to be. Would still recommend.
Outstanding every time I go. We went for Valentines Day which is always so busy, but the food and service was at the same high level as any other day. Amazing for any special occasion event, romantic dinner or if you’re just in the mood for some awesome food.
Love the food and the service! Valet parking makes up for hard-to-find parking in Avondale. My wife and I have been coming here for years and look forward to continuing for many more.
Would not go back. We went there for Valentine's dinner and was very disappointed. For the first cousre I got the lobster bisque. It was very bland, no flavor. My main course was a seafood risotto which had three medium sized shrimp, one scallop, and three mussels. Less than average at best. Very little flavor. The chocolate cake dessert had warmed chocolate syrup and small scoop of vanilla icecream which you could get from any restaurant. Wife's entree was a pasta with truffle oil. Disgusting. The oil soaked into the pasta and she was left with a pile of dry noodles with parsley on top. After the tip, we spent $170 for two dinners which I do not mind spending for a nice restaurant. However, this is not. For the price and what we got, worst dinning experience in a long time.
Service was excellent & the food was even better. Can't wait to go back!!
The valentine's day menu was never mentioned on the website when making the reservation. There weren't any pasta dishes with red sauce on the menu. The regular menu should have been available to order from. Expensive for two people.
How was Al Di La? Amazing as always. Great atmosphere, amazing food, and the best service.
My husband and I, after saying for some time that we wanted to try Al Di La, went there for an early Valentine's dinner on 2/13. We were seated in one of the 2 back "private" booths which was very nice. Our server, Danielo, provided excellent service and was very friendly and knowledgeable. My husband ordered the chicken parmesean which is his favorite and while it was tasty, it was a really small portion including the amount of pasta. I ordered the pork shoulder with brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes and I had a huge serving, which was very good, although the pork was a little on the dry side.
Service is always outstanding and the food is delicious. This is our 3rd time visiting in a city with numerous dining options says a lot of what we think of the place.
Great local italian restaurant great service and wine list
A neighborhood gem we have visited a number of times so the menu this time was limited due to restaurant week though the food and value were still outstanding.
Our server was very helpful and had good recommendations. Will be back to try other menu items
We're long-time, repeat customers. Per ususal, food was excellent. Best Negroni in Charleston!
Our server was arrogant and condescending. He made it obvious that we weren't his preferred "type" of customer. We weren't dripping diamonds. The table next to us, which was diamond-heavy, received completely different treatment.
Our food was delicious.. the bolognese was thick & rich & my husband’s chicken parmigiana was exactly likes he loves but almost never gets, the chicken was pounded out to thin, crusty flavorful perfection. Our waitstaff, Jen was there when we needed her but never constantly. The only complaint we have is the noise level at times was extreme & always high. Recommend putting some sound absorbing cubes on the ceiling so we could hear guests when we go back.
Really enjoyed our date night, great service, great food.. got the table near the kitchen so I am never a fan of that. We enjoyed our evening and would go again, if we were in the area. It actually looked a lot nicer than in the photos (they really should update their photos).
