We eat here a few times year and always enjoy it. Our last experience was not up to our normal expectations. They forgot one of our appetizers and didn’t bring our table the bread and olive oil. Once we brought it to their attention they immediately brought us bread (but it was ice cold). We cancelled the missing app (mussels) b/c we didn’t want to delay our main course or have main course come out as same time as the mussels. Our server comped us some biscotti as an apology. Hopefully it was just an off night for them (they were busy). It was disappointing but they tried to make up for it and we’ll give them another chance.
Al di la is a fanciful casual and comfortable venue where the service is attentive and the food very tasty. Our lunches were so tasty that I took two friends there for dinner the next evening and our meals were equally superb. Because of our schedules, the restaurant opened early for us agreeing to seat us at 4:30 p.m. in lieu of their regular 5:00 p.m. opening. We were greeted like "regulars" although I had only been there for the second time in awhile. Every restaurant has a sub par evening now and then but it is obvious to me that the negative reviews are no longer applicable. The restaurant has corrected those sub par servers and the chef has either been replaced or vastly improved his skills. There is simply nothing not to like at Al di la!
Great food and service. Charming atmosphere and attention to detail.
I really enjoyed my dinner at Al Di La. My friend’s pork shoulder was very tender and tasty and my gnocchi and shrimp was excellent. The wine choices were good and the prices very reasonable. I’ll definitely return.
Service and food are very good. Another local gem that is every bit as good as downtown with a significantly smaller bill😃👍
Waiter seemed overwhelmed
Authentic italian restaurant (even our waiter was Italian) with good food and pleasant outdoor dining.
Food and service was excellent
I recommend dimming the lights in the restaurant for a more intimate atmosphere. We weren't sure that our server's Italian accent was authentic, not that it matters. The saffron risotto was gummy and over cooked. Our other pasta dishes were fine. We were seated in a raised seating area at the back of the restaurant. We loved this location.
The food was wonderful, really wonderful. The service could not have been better. (Server moved us when we wished another table with more comfortable seats....your booths are not comfortable). My only complaint is the noise. Eat early is the only solution I know!
Second visit. Great Italian food. Friendly service. I will definitely be back
Great Valentine’s Day
We were not told the regular menu was not available for Valentine’s Day even after calling to confirm reservations. This is typically $20ish a plate restaurant. Only option was a prefix menu for $60 pp. Food was either too salty or had been sitting out. Disappointing experience.
Delicious Italian food. Hands down.
My wife and I have gone to Al di La for our Valentines' Day date since we met in 2004, save the year our daughter was born. It has changed hands a few times, and chefs a few times too I think, but we've always been impressed by the food, servers, and atmosphere.
The gnocchi is exquisite, and a favorite of ours.
First trip. Lively weekend dinner crowd. Simple menu and something for everybody. Italian done well.
It was a very nice evening with old friends, delicious food and drinks and a great server!
Al Di La has been recommended to me before. I expected a great level of food in more of an attractive atmosphere. The food was moderate and the atmosphere was very unattractive. Plain white plastic table clothes and old bathrooms. Our server never came to check on us, nor refill our drinks or ask if we wanted dessert. A real disappointment.
My fiancé and I have eaten at Al Di La multiple times (it is our favorite West Ashley restaurant) and they NEVER disappoint. The service is great, food is amazing and every person we take there says the same thing, it’s amazing! I highly recommend this little gem!
Excellent food and excellent service. They have an Italian waiter who is the absolute best.
Food is always fantastic! This time the service was a bit spotty. I believe they were under staffed. All in all I would still go back. Great, consistent food!
This restaurant ALWAYS meets or exceeds our expectations. The food is authentic and the service very professional. It is on par with the best of downtown Charleston and more reasonably priced. We will keep coming back every chance we have.
Dinner was good. Had a reservation but still had to wait 20 min to sit down. Food was good as always but at the end we had to wait over 25 min for dessert. Felt somewhat neglected at the end. There seemed to be plenty of wait staff but not a lot of team effort.
We love the food at Al di La and our server was terrific. Unfortunately, it’s so loud that we couldn’t even carry on a normal conversation at a table for four people. I hope the Restaurant can address this issue because the experience is otherwise great.
Food and service were phenomenal. I haven't been in years, and love what they've done with the decor. Can't wait to go back.
Amazing! Best Italian food I have had since I left NY!
Very good lunch. excellent service and the food was very good.
Everything we ordered was wonderful and the service was great! We will definitely be back!
Al Di La never disappoints. True Italian and great food. Staff and manager are always great.
Went during restaurant week...great food for a great value.
I am Italian and this is my go to place in Charleston, I love it
Our restaurant week dining included two venues. Al Di La and 225. These two places are far different. However, compared on value, food and service, Al Di La was superior. In addition, it was just more fun. Ok, so it’s in an eclectic area rather than a snobby address. In the future I’ll opt for good Italian over twice the priced average American.
Most of the food was very good. We particularly liked the focaccia (with some very good olive oil), the green salad, the pasta with duck confit. The surroundings were great with comfortable two person tables and a very nice wait staff. Even the lighting was very pleasant.
There was only one exception. We ordered gnocchi with shrimp. The gnocchi was very good and fresh, the shrimp were those tiny bay shrimp. That is not what you expect in Charleston when you order a shrimp dish. The espresso tiramisu lacked a coffee taste.
Great service although they were quite busy the night we went during Restaurant Week. I think it took longer than normal but we had a great table and good wine so we were happy. Parking is difficult in that area and unmarked so visitors in the area don’t know the rules. Dessert portions small but overall an excellent meal!
Bone in duck confit was represented by waiter as a chicken bone (meaning it couldn’t have come from the duck). No apology and nothing off the bill.
Went for restaurant week menu options were listed wrong.
Always great Italian food coming from a New Yorker.
Went for restaurant week because I really had a taste for Italian. The food was just alright. Showed up on time for my 9pm reservation but wasn't seated until almost 9:30 and that was after they seated a couple who had an 8:45 reservation who didn't show up until around 9:10 or so. Looks like you can show up 30 minutes later for your reservation and still be seated in front of others, so I guess thats a plus.
My wife and I ate at Al Di La for the first time recently. We had reservations for 8:00 on a Friday night. The restaurant was packed and we did have a short wait for a table. We both enjoyed the food and service very much. It is a small restaurant so tables are close together but I personally enjoyed the atmosphere. I was impressed with the organization and efficiency of the staff. Parking is an issue. It really was one of the best dining experiences I've had.
