Aksum Ratings and Reviews
The food here is hands down phenomenal. The dishes are a perfect blend of creative and comforting. The ingredients are always fresh, I have loved everything I have tried. They menu included gluten free/vegan/vegetarian options, and they are accommodating of changes due to dietary needs. The service, though not perfect, is always friendly and welcoming. This place is a neighborhood favorite of mine and will continue to be, hopefully for years to come.
For some reason it just took a really long time for our entrees to show up. The server was very apologetic and gave us a dessert but it was just strange. I’ve eaten here before and haven’t had that happen. It was disappointing because we were bringing a friend back to her old neighborhood to try the place and wanted her to like it. Will be back and hopefully this won’t happen again.
Our first visit and it was great. Nice menu selections and portions. Very tasty. We drove in from Ambler area and were delighted to find on street parking just steps away. We were not rushed and enjoyed a lovely night with friends. The music was a bit loud at first but them it was turned down.
Excellent Service from the moment I made the reservations through the end of our dinner. I had picky family members in attendance and they loved the food and ambience. Our waitress Monet was second to none. Elizabeth who I made reservations with was professional and kind. My Mother-in-law was very grateful for such a wonderful experience as we celebrated her 77th Birthday!!! Thanks Askum Staff :-)
Dinner was excellent. While we had a server who was in training that slowed things down a little, overall the service was attentive. Fig and apple salad had a beautiful presentation and nice, light dressing. Salmon was seared to perfection and spicy mashed potatoes had a nice kick. Didn't try the desserts, but from what I saw, they looked amazing!
We have eaten here on several occasions. This time was disappointing. We ordered the same entrees as from our prior visits. We knew right away looking at our entrees and upon tasting there was a new chef. The mussels were old. One of our entrees was cold. The server was awesome and did bring a replacement entree. However, my chicken and shrimp entree was excellent.
We shared a beet salad, the fried artichoke tapas and special kale and mango wrapped in filo.... all very good. My entre, the Aksumite Vegetarian Tajin , was very spicy. When it said Mediterranean spices I didn't realize how spicy it would be. A warning from the waitress would have been helpful. We were hardly through with tapas when they wanted to bring on the entres. It felt rushed and it wasn't crowded.
This restaurant is a true gem , the food is superb, the service is impeccable. The owner is very active in her establishment, she is very nice. The menu is great, I love the brunch and dinner. I dine here as much as I can and I drive at least 17 miles . Just a really cool place, I love to patronize neighborhood gems.
