Went for Sunday brunch. Had great service. Would totally go back again.
Superb service and foof
A.kitchen was a.mazing. The menu ha.d many interesting choices including a Philly specia.l that was not quite a.s good a.s Burton to Foles but still pretty good. The roa.sted Brussels sprouts ea.sily were the best ever. They a.ccomodated my specia.l request without a.ny problem.
Friendly service does not make up for mediocre food and scanty portions. Winter citrus salad and gnocchi “small plates “were really small. Burger cooked to death. Very noisy!
Seasonal, creative choices in a cozy, but bordering on too loud atmosphere. Our round table of four had to speak up in order to hear each other across the table in the din of some boisterous nearby tables. Food was served European style: when a dish is ready, it is served, which allows one to taste each item as it is intended to be served. Service was knowledgeable and prompt, though there was a small window where water glasses were not refilled as a number of tables simultaneously needed clearing or a check and the lean number of waitstaff was briefly overwhelmed.
Some of our group was a bit dismayed at the number of dishes with fennel as a supporting or main ingredient, but that comes with the choices of seasonal produce available in late winter. I'd come back to see what this kitchen would create with at the peak of summer produce availability.
We were there for our adult daughter's birthday. Both the hostess and waitress made the meal extra special by bringing over some champagne and a special croissant. It was a nice surprise and really showed their consideration and were incredibly pleasant the whole time. The entire staff made us very comfortable.
Amazing wait staff, and the food was superb. The prix fixe menu is fantastic.
Incredible diner at a.kitchen. All 4 of us ordered the prix fixe menu - lots of small plates brought to table followed by each diner's choice of entrée. The duck was AMAZING! We also all loved the beets as a starter. Delicious, creative, good portion sizes. Will be back! Our server was attentive, the service was impeccable.
This place just gets better and better. Creative menu. Whole branzino grilled to perfection.
Absolute delightful afternoon with terrific service, delish cocktails and relaxing ambiance. Great for people watching too!
Great food but noisy and COLD, open doors and it was February!
I think right now this may be the best restaurant in Philadelphia. Every course was outstanding for both my wife and me, and it is a fun lively place to go.
Great brunch! Cozy environment and scrumptious food!
Experienced staff, great wine list and delicious food. Will be back.
We stopped by after traveling and were quickly seated, enjoyed a delicious meal with unusual and delectable appetizers. Enjoyable ambiance.
Has good variety for breakfast and a good ambiance. Staff let us in a bit before opening for coffee while setting up.
Took my wife here for Valentine's Day and we got the best seat in the house. We sat right in front of the kitchen and were even given complimentary gnocchi as a starter. The food was delicious, the staff was great, great ambience and definitely will come again!
what a wonderful dinner! we started with cocktails, our server suggested starters to share, we loved the stuffed branzino paired with delicious wine and finished with a chocolate tart. definitely one of the best meals we have had on date nights in Philly!
Great food and great fun. We had an early reservation for dinner, and had asked for the chef's counter. Since it was early, we had our choice of seating, so we sat where we could watch the whole kitchen working (on the end). We had the beets and burrata, and the steak tartare to start; both were delicious. The chef also made us a citrus salad, just to be nice! Also, delicious. I got the mushroom lasagna and he got the swordfish steak. The chef accidentally brought out a sea bass instead of the swordfish, but he loved it anyways. The chef then realized his mistake and came over to apologize, my honey said he would never had ordered the sea bass, but was happy to have eaten it. Dessert: walnut cake and chocolate tart, probably my least favorite part of the meal.
The head chef (do not know his name), and his sous chef Krupa were very informative of what they were making when asked (and I asked a bunch of questions until they got very busy). Our waitress Abriona was extremely nice and informative about the food and wine.
At the end of our meal, they brought out my honey's correct swordfish meal for us to bring home, big surprise!
All in all, a great meal, and we will definitely go back.
We sat at the kitchen bar - and it was a great experience ! Wonderful food, chef and his kitchen staff engaged with us, lovely atmosphere. One of my favorite Philly experiences! We will be back soon!
Lovely French American Bistro in charming Rittenhouse Square. Grilled octopus and Brussel sprouts a must!!! Personable and engaging wait staff.
We were pleasantly surprised by our dinner at a.kitchen. Excellent food, nice sized portions and our waitress was wonderful. A good waitress who is attentive, personable but not overbearing makes the meal. Thanks for a great night out :)
Had a counter seat for dinner with my girlfriend. First time there and it wont be our last. The food and wine pairing was excellent. I enjoyed watching the food get prepared even if it only made me wish I had more of it. Service was great as well.
We’ve come to expect a great dining experience and wonderful food when eating at the top Philadelphia restaurants and a.Kitchen really delivered. The menu was varied and creative and every course was wonderful. Even my martini was expertly prepared. This is a top 10 restaurant that deserves its ranking. I also want to add that the service is terrific, professional, knowledgeable and attentive without hovering. We highly recommend a.Kitchen and look forward to returning very soon.
Delicious brunch. Loved the ricotta lemon pancakes, wonderful side fruit with blood oranges, good coffee, and beautiful omelette . A great place , cozy and cheerful .
What a joy! We've loved a.Kitchen since it opened, although we haven't been there much since we retired. So it was great to find the same adventurous menu, wonderful staff, exciting wine list, & unpretentious attention to detail that it had on day 1. We had to be downtown for an appointment, so we decided to make a late lunch the main meal for the day. The delicata squash with feta & chermoula (we didn't know either...it's an amazing Moroccan herb sauce) was stellar. The crudo was rich, fresh & delightfully structured, with grapefruit, beets, & pomegranate seeds. My wife went traditional with the burger, which is one of Philly's best. And I had a duck sausage sandwich, which was so good it was off the chart! The fries are thickly sliced in house & done to perfection with no oily residue. We found yet another wine we never heard of, a Sardinian made from a varietal called Monica. It's an inexpensive light, mildly tannic red with strong cherry & plum that was delicious & went very well with everything we ordered. We were not rushed despite being the last lunch seating - a.Kitchen's still a winner!
Our first time here and it was amazing. The service was outstanding....every dish brought out by the chef and explained...our server was awesome with recommendations and very attentive without being overbearing. The ambiance is perfect....quiet but not in a snooty way...just comfortable. The dishes are all prepared with the utmost attention to detail and were all delicious. We couldn't ask for anything better - we will be back, with friends....soon and often.
In for the Eagles parade tomorrow. Had a nice meal with a good bottle of wine because it was cellar raid night ( first wed each month, wine bottles half price.). The food was diverse for such a small menu. The chef whipped up a nice vegan small plate for my daughter that was delicious. The noise level was not bothersome because the restaurant was not full at the time (8:45 pm reservation, Wednesday night). I would dine here again. Service was very good, attentive but not intrusive.
Went with my brother, who came down from NYC, on the first Wednesday 1/2 price wine night. Surprised and disappointed to learn it only applied to bottles, not 1/2 bottles (which I would go back for since I live alone) or magnums (which would be great for bringing our family there to a table for 6 or 8). The other issue is with a very outdated wine list. A number of bottles of red wine that we were interested in were no longer available. A very good champagne took quite some time to locate in the cellar?
Thought the food was good, but I've had better lunches there. It was an enjoyable time with my brother, totally relaxed, attentive, but not obtrusive, service. Will we be back? I'm not sure. I think the issues with the wine list would definitely have to be resolved. And, I think the ownership should think about the strategy of applying the appeal of the 1/2 price wine to 1/2 bottles and magnums.
the whole PA trout was awesome and the charcuterie superb.
The food was fresh and the service was very good. Limited wine selection and menu choices. This is a small place that is very active.
Place is very pretty looking, but the choice of wood ceilings and hard surfaces everywhere was not ideal as it’s LOUD. The restaurant had 5 empty tables and we could hardly hear each other. One of us is 34 and one of us is 45... so we aren’t geriatric.
The menu is complicated. They were trying very very hard. The result is you aren’t sure what to get.... and it was a struggle to order anything.
We got the duck sausage gnocchi which was very good and the Brussels sprouts with lamb belly... which is winter hardy for sure.
Service was great but we couldn’t hear the waiter and has to ask him to repeat himself - to which he replied he was very soft spoken and everyone had issues hearing him. Ha! Not the spot to work then.
Staff was super kind. Place is pretty, but noisy. Menu is too complex... outcome - have an early or late night drink here - but eat around the corner at estia.
Amazing meal! Creative cooking and flavors! Would highly recommend!
The chef made a stellar vegan meal for me. It was not only delicious but beautifully and artfully presented. Well done and much appreciated!!
Best brunch in the city
We visited a.kitchen on Friday of restaurant week and were not disappointed. All of the dishes were great, but the stars were the crab croquet appetizer, Brussels sprouts, and the wagyu beef dish. We sat at the chef's counter and were able to watch all of the kitchen action, which we thought was an extra treat. The restaurant is small and relatively noisy - probably not a great place for large parties or children, but we will definitely be back to try the regular menu as well!!
I would rate a.kitchen as an underrated and awesome restaurant in the Rittenhouse area! The location is fantastic. Due to its small size, however, I would recommend making reservations as early as possible on possible busy dates (such as during restaurant week). The restaurant offered a great deal for restaurant week. I would recommend the hamachi crudo, brussel sprouts with lamb belly, and grilled wreckfish. All were delicious! The service was friendly, and the wine pairings for the restaurant week menu were nice. My only complaint would be that the staff was, at times, slow with refilling our wine glasses. That was probably due to the unusually large crowd due to restaurant week. The ambiance was lovely, and I will definitely be coming back!
Really enjoyed our dinner on restaurant week. Appetizers delicious. Had the lasagna. Good, very different. Service great. Fun place A lot of energy.
We sat at the Chefs Counter and watched the creative food being prepared. Sharing four small plates and two entrees, we were in food heaven. The grilled sea bass and beef were outstanding, and the cauliflower and Brussels sprouts were noteworthy. Our server was perfect, offering up suggestions to help with our dining experience. This was our second time dining here and will definitely return in the near future.
