The Nigiri tasting (moriwase) for lunch was superb - fresh fish and exceptional flavors. Staff were fantastic - friendly and attentive even in such a busy setting. Highly recommended.

We read the recommendation on trip advisor. The restaurant was located 200 meters from our hotel so that was very convenient. We have been in many good sushi restaurants in. Any cities and this was good but not the best. Seems expensive (400+ such per 2 persons). We ordered the omakase and there was some very good items but was not consistent overall), the service was below average so at the end there was a not good relation price/quality

One of - if not our favorite, sushi spots in the city! Wonderful sushi and such a kind, accommodating staff.

Avoid at all costs. Menu on their website is not updated to reflect new prices/selection, slow seating, poor service, sold out of many items. Pick almost any other sushi restaurant in SF because this one is a complete dud.

Always popping up on best sushi lists, Akiko was on my personal must try list. It didn’t disappoint. The cool raw space, attentive service and just incredible sashimi. Also enjoyed the greens salad, miso soup and chef’s recommendation for seares butterfish and cold sake selection. The neiman ranch gyu came with housemate kimchi, padron peppers and fried Brussels sprouts.

Akiko's serves exceptionally good sushi. The service is pretty good, but could not be described as friendly.

The main dining area appears to have been an alley between two buildings at one time or another. It's dim, tunnel-like, and extremely noisy when busy. It doesn't help that the restaurant also plays moderately loud music over the sound system.

There are a few seats at the sushi bar and a three tables near the entrance that have windows to the street. These tables are in high demand.

Despite the high quality food, I may have to give up on Akiko's because of the substandard dining room.

Amazing! Flavors were just amazing. It was our first time at Akiko’s and we opted for the omakase tasting menu. Most of the dishes were good. Some were absolutely amazing. Very unique and thoughtful. It was refreshing to be the recipient of a well thought out menu.

The sushi was interesting and fresh but the pieces were tiny and very expensive. That, however, is not my main problem with this restaurant. They billed me an extra, unapproved $33 on my credit card and just kept promising to call me back when I called to have it corrected. I'm still waiting! Mistakes happen but they are apparently not interested in correcting them. I was also a little put off by the fact that I went with a friend on my birthday AND hers (we have the same birthday) and the restaurant did ZERO to acknowledge the birthdays...no dessert, no candle, not even a Happy Birthday greeting, even though I put a note on my reservation saying it was our birthdays.

My advice - for a special occasion, pick a restaurant that cares. And make sure to monitor your credit card and keep all receipts if you do go!

The value was not there especially for the quality of the fish and the ambiance. We were seated directly in front of the door, so overtime a person opened the door we experienced a cold draft. I'd much prefer eat at Kusakabe for the price of the sashimi/nigiri here.

This place as hyped up. The sushi wasn’t anything write home about. There was no eel (what kind of sushi place doesn’t have eel?). The taste of the salmon, yellowtail, or tuna was not memorable.

Recommend making a reservation for earlier in the night if possible. I could only get a 9pm reservation and had to wait an additional 30 minutes for a table. I also recommend asking to sit at the sushi bar. While waiting I saw the sushi chefs serving a different menu to the patrons of the bar. When I requested information about some of the sushi choices from the bar, the waiter was completely confused and dismissive. We were sat at a table in the main dining room with zero privacy and constant traffic to and from the bathroom. The sushi was fresh and delicious and I will return but will make sure to only sit at the bar.

The deep fried soft-shell crab was amazing. Can't stop thinking about it! Will go back to San Francisco just to eat that! You do want to get there early because we had a late reservation and they were already out of most of the nigiri.

Akiko's never disappoints. Hands down, still the best sushi in San Francisco, even with the recent glut of new high-end Japanese restaurants.

Akiko's is a whole other level of sushi. In the past I've been to places which I felt were good, but they're in a different category. I always thought it people were exaggerating when they would talk about melt in your mouth, tender sushi. Now I know they are not. I got the nigiri sampler plus a couple of other items and everything was so fresh and full of flavor.

When I first wrote this review I gave only 4 stars for value. I came back and changed that to 5 stars as I realized that while the food was pricey it was so worth it.

I will definitely visit again.

Go here for the amazing omakase menu, featuring rare ocean treats flown in from Hokkaido and other parts of Japan. Every plate is elegantly plated by the chef and curated by the server to elevate the experience of each bite. Standard menu items are a delight as well, but the point of this place is letting the sushi masters give you their best.

The food wasn't bad, the place looks good and intimate but the manu is not variated enough. We decided to take the "chef's choice Onomaku" option (without an average number of plates and price indicated) and the bill was completely out of range. As a general review, the place and food didn´t worth the price payed.

Based on the many good reviews, we decided to try Akiko, and skip our favorite and usual Sushi restaurant in San Francisco, Kusakabe (which is always amazing).

AKIKO was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT:

1- Our server, Linh (a seemingly moody girl with no grace or enough manners) was the beginning of a mediocre experience.

2- Our Otoro was ridiculously tiny, which we would never have minded if the quality had been high. The quality was poor. I remember once eating at a dreadful sushi boat place & the Otoro there was better!

3-The rest of the dishes were OK or just good.

4- The pacing of the dishes was disorganized and choppy.

One good thing.....Our Gindara (miso marinated black cod) was excellent but not "wow" enough to redeem the rest of the mediocrity.

The sushi was delicious and there was an incredible selection of fresh fish shipped in from Japan. Prices reflect the quality of the fish and preparation. Unfortunately, our meal was less than pleasant due to a particular server whose timing and manners were off - she was often unavailable/too busy for questions/orders and interrupted conversation at inopportune times. The rest of the serving staff was courteous and on point otherwise.
