this place made the one and done list. the omakase was overpriced for the sushi rices was poor quality. they had a uni dish and seaweed on the side that they want you to make your own taco. I didn't pay $250 to make my meal. I expected it to be made ready to eat.
overall not one of the best omakase places to dine at
This is hands down one of the best sushi restaurants around. I can't write a long dissertation at this point; however, if you want to truly experience amazing food, service, ambionse then this is a must. We love this place in every aspect. Highly highly recommend it, especially the Omakase menu...
Excellent service and food was fresh. Will go back.
Unbelievable. The level of service was so personal and food was delicious.
Simply amazing. One of the best omakase sushi experiences.
Fantastic first anniversary dinner.
The waiter was extremely knowledgeable- and suggested fantastic items.
Had an amazing time.
Quiet place with phenomenal atmosphere.
One of the best omakase experiences I've had! Akiko's omakase starts with a number of appetizers that were each well thought out and executed wonderfully, with an essence of Kaiseki. The nigiri comes after, each fish prepared to highlight and enhance the flavor. Even the 'gari' (pickled ginger) was house made and wonderfully unique, since ever other sushi restaurant in the world serves it the same way. This really captured the essence and philosophy of omakase, which literally means 'To leave into one's hands' in Japanese but is more deeply about entrusting the chef to create a wonderful meal. It's truly about showing respect to the chef and likewise the chef honoring the diner with the best dining experience. This was a true omakase experience.
wonderful service and food & drink recommendations by staff
Most amazing sushi experience! The quality and freshness was off the hook. Most impressive was the innovative dishes
Perfect all around.
Best Japanese food and sushi this side of Japan. Never had a bad meal and love how Alan and his team always exceed all expectations. A truly remarkable experience. Reservations are a must!
An amazing and sublime experience every time.
Spectacular dining experience.
The food was the best sushi I have experienced (and I know my sushi).
Fresh, friendly, serene atmosphere. Fantastic fun on date night. Thank you Akiko's!
one of the most delicious sushi meals we've had, and we've had many.
One of my top food experiences. The food was delicious and the service impeccable.
Great food and conversation with the staff. Staff was very attentive and friendly.
I cant really comment at this time because my knees are buckled and Im still in shock. Literally teared up. And Alan was pure genius. You really need to experience it for yourself. End of line.
Amazing quality of fish! So delicate, subtle and tasty!
Great service, made excellent recommendations.
The only downside: you will never want to go to your local sushi place after such an experience!
It is a must!
Excellent from beginning to the end both the food and service
Omakase - 10 stars! We celebrated two big milestones and decided to splurge and treat ourselves. We chose Akiko’s to remember this day. Incredible service. Incredible food. A feast for the eyes, and all senses. We were getting more and more sad as we approached the bottom of the menu as we knew it was ending. It is pricey, but for a celebration, truly, truly a treat. Sake was amazing - tip: ask the price first if you are being mindful of budget. An incredible meal. Chef Ray is outstanding.
Thank you for a very nice dinner. We enjoyed ourselves
We had one of the most amazing dining experiences for my husband's birthday. The Omakase was outstanding!!! The food and service was exceptional. One of our favorite spots in all of SF!
well sequenced omakase with excellent ingredients and preparation
Not just Sushi. True Japanese experience. Excellent!
I googled “Best sushi in San Francisco”, and Akiko came up. Yes this is the best sushi in San Francisco
Delicious and beautifully presented food. Super service. Food came out at a nice pace. Nice wine selection.
Always beyond exceptional!!! Hands down the best sushi / Omakase restaurant in SF! Number one place I refer people and bring guests/clients from out of town. Thank you Akiko’s
An outstanding experience! Sat at the sushi counter and ordered the tasting menu. Extravagant, beautiful and delicious! The staff are all charming - from the front door to behind the counter.
Such a fun dining experience ... and one of our first indoors post-COVID.
A treat all the way around.
Wonderful food and service!
My fiancé (now wife!) and I went here during our honeymoon and had the omakase and oh my god (eh)! It was a truly fantastic meal and the sushi chefs and wait staff were very friendly and made the whole thing a very fun experience. The omakase is not cheap, I will warn you, but the quality and overall experience was worth it we felt like. We would both place it among the best meals we have every had in our lives. So, if you are a fan of sushi and want to do something really special, splurge on the omakase here and you will have a memory and story to tell for quite some time!
Fantastic meal with amazing service. Sushi and food was top notch and high quality with service to back it up.
Went for my father's 65th birthday and had my pregnant wife with me. Obviously there was not a lot she could eat, but the server made an extra effort to recommend and helped course the meal out for her as the rest of the party did the omakase. Definitely will come back for other special and even just a casual occasion.
This place is high end sushi and expensive, i go there once a week after work and i end up paying between $350 and $450 per person with tax and tip. if i return it is because of the fish quality and the staff skills. It is a true journey about sensation, i am not even sure it is about food... so if you want to eat, go somewhere else, if you want to be taken into a olfactory journey, a craft and art experience, than, this might be one of your spot.
if you enjoy refined sake, you may also find some that would match your taste, ask the sommelier, the staff is very competent and that is not the usual in San Francisco.
If you sit at the bar and are lucky to have a clever chef, you may even have a very nice culinary teaching at the same time!
The restaurant is clean, chic and understated. The Omakase menu was a curated selection from the sea. Pairings were thoughtful, unique and perfectly prepared. The presentation of each dish was beautiful and reverent. Some of the best flavor combinations I have ever had. Chris is a sake sommelier as I had never experienced with a friendly affability that elevated a restaurant dinner to a meal with friends.
Had the omakase - pricy, but excellent and well worth the money. Service was outstanding. Highly recommend.
Just absolutely perfect. From the moment you walk in to the moment of walking out- everything is top level. The best experience always.
a fine high end sushi place in downtown SF, one of my favorite in the city.
service impeccable, friendly and classy staff, nice set up.
the omakaze was really amazing, starting with several delicate dishes, non sushi then several one piece nigiri with usual fishes but artfully crafted.
with a couple glass of sake and tip i ended up paying about $400 so this is a pricey place.
The food was outstanding. Period. We chose the tasting menu and it noticeably did not have a price mentioned. My fault for not inquiring. I'll just say that is was a bit more expensive that I could have possibly imagined...
Definitely an experience! Each dish in the Omakase menu was like a delicious work of art. Excellent service and ambiance as well.
Amazing food. Great service. Cool ambiance. Well selected sake. Gotta do the Omakase. It’s pricey, but it’s worth it. Great experience, would save up and do it again.
