My friends and I wanted lamb kebabs or lamb chops for dinner - and checked many menus in the area before settling on Ackendiz on 53 - Very reasonable prices and quite good food. The tables are little close together. All and all a great value.
For years we've been dining at the original Akdeniz (19 West 46th Street). Indeed, it was the original Akdeniz that recommended this restaurant (310 West 53rd Street) to us when it was already fully booked. At the time, the original Akdeniz assured us that "everything is the same at the newer Akdeniz." But, unfortunately, this information was not accurate. The "new" Akdeniz does NOT have prix fixe dinners, does NOT have raki or ouzo (no liquor license), and does NOT have as many desserts. [Happily, the eggplant salad was just as delicious.] My salmon/
grape leaves were less ample than usual and my husband's fish was overcooked. Needless to say, although the owners were pleasant and tried to be accommodating, we wound up with a higher bill for far less satisfying food and drink. We will be looking for another restaurant when going to the theatre in the West 50s. This past Friday we were going to Studio 54, a convenient but disappointing restaurant choice.
Stopped here after a show. Quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Not crowded or noisy -- space between tables. It felt calming to just walk in. Not an energetic, noisy bar scene. Good for conversation and not feeling rushed. Service was friendly and attentive. Food very fresh , but a little plain.
Nice little place. Good food, reasonable prices for NYC and attentive service.
Great service, tasty delicious food, will be back!
Delicious food. Wonderful meal. Great variety on the menu. Easy to share several dishes to further the variety.
Excellent food with good service. Good for theater area dining.
Very small, quaint turkish restaurant. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Food delicious. Great find in the theater district. We would definitely go back
Food was fresh and delicious. We enjoyed the ambiance and had a nice time at Akendiz
Very good authentic Mediterranean cuisine. Attentive service. Had a very nice meal and will come back again.
Good for kids
Searched for a pre-show place to eat and this was PERFECT!
Great food, wine and coffee for great value....
Just be advised to have plenty of time ti spend there --- it's very slow pace which is wonderful if you have the time!!
The food is only good, not great. The main thing this place has going for it is substantial portions and reasonable prices.
Warm and personable service. Adored the Adana Kebab. Great for pre or post theater.
Excellent food, great variety and the special happy hour prices are a great value as is the food.
The outdoor seating was a nice treat before going to sit in the theatre for 2 1/2 hours on a beautiful Summer's night.
Would go back to Akdeniz on 46 street or
53 rd street every time I'm in theatre district
Food is consistently good and prices are so reasonable!
We had a lovely dinner at Akdeniz - the food was fresh and delicious, there was a good selection of wines at accessible prices, a pleasant and stylish atmosphere, and friendly, attentive wait staff. Our server and the owner/manager both made us feel so welcome and taken care of.
This place is tucked away on a quiet street off bustling 8th avenue, removed from the noisy chaotic vibe of midtown. You would probably miss the hidden little storefront if you walked by, but inside you'll find a spacious dining room. The interior decor is sleek but inviting, with a variety of seating options (would love to sit outside next time, or in the comfy-looking leather chairs of the lounge area!). The food is traditional turkish fare, but marked by high-quality ingredients and good portions.
Would definitely return! Thanks for a great dinner Akdeniz!
We started off at the bar. We enjoyed a few glasses of sangria and beer. The bartender was attentive. We had the eggplant spread and hummus. The bread was warm and great. I asked for a few baskets. We decided to stay for dinner and moved our group to the outdoor patio/garden area. I had the lamb adana and loved it. My friends had the lamb chops, salmon, and mixed grill. All very good and flavorful. I will have to order the salmon next time. Definitely will be back again.
Host and server could not have been nicer! I love Turks! Portions were large, food varied and delicious, I hope they do very well!
An early dinner before a concert was quiet with excellent service. Stuffed grape leaves were so good, and Sultan's Delight was amazing!
GREAT new addition to the area and a real sleeper for casual pre theater until people learn about it. And it is as good as the original and can't wait to get back,
