AKASHA restaurant/bar/cafe features New American cuisine offering comfort food with big flavors and sustainable ingredients, for carnivores and herbivores alike. Chef/Caterer Akasha Richmond brings visionary cuisine to her own neighborhood eatery located in the historic Hull Building in downtown Culver City. Keeping the principles of sustainability in mind, the building's original steel, wood, concrete and brick arches were restored while the design materials pair with a seventies modernity to exude an inviting and lively atmosphere. The artisan bakery has both sweet and savory selections, as well as locally roasted direct trade coffee. The 20-seat bar highlights fresh juice cocktails, organic and premium spirits, beer and wine. The entire menu is available for catering or to go.

Even on a busy night, when you pay $160 for 2 entrees and a glass of wine, you don't expect your one side dish of vegetable to come 15 mins after you're finished eating despite 3 reminders to your server that you haven't gotten it yet.

We all enjoyed our dinners thoroughly. We ate sea bass, fish curry, salmon, beet salads, and a yummy chocolate sundae for dessert. Would go back again.

Akasha has become one of my husband and my go-to "nice" restaurant. The food and drinks are always delicious, the service is always impeccable but not fussy and the atmosphere is lovely without being intimidating. A favorite!

Tried to get a pre-fixe menu for a group of 10. Emailed the events coordinator as directed on the phone, didn't get a response. Called day of the events coordinator day of the dinner, said they couldn't help me b/c they needed 48 hours notice. I emailed them more than 48 hours in advance. That sucks. Also, the food was just meh. All that said, it was good for our group and the birthday girl was happy.

The food was delicious!! We enjoyed everything from the vegan burger to the short ribs, brussel sprouts, to the sweet potato fries. It was my daughter's birthday so we brought our own cake. The service was efficient and very friendly. We will definitely recommend to friends and go back again!

I have visited this spot on several different occasions and have always been pleased. Unfortunately this last visit was less than great. Our server was absent most of the time we were dining, my guest was served cold food and when she brought it to his attention he gave no suggestions on how to remedy the problem. We involved a member of the management team and she was very eager to make sure the rest of our visit was pleasant. I will go back again, but I do know who to request as our server next time, Divine!

We have been going here since the restaurant keeps getting better all the time. Service is excellent since some of the staff have been there since opening and it always a pleasure to have some of them greet us personally. Kudos to Akasha and her husband Alex for running a truly superb restaurant in the hear of LA.

I’ve enjoyed every meal I’ve ever had here. Always delicious, staff great, and service is tops. If I could change anything it would be the slippery leather chairs that look good but are not designed for a human spine or butt. Sitting back sends you further into the hole and sitting up can only really be done by perching on the edge=not comfortable. Even with that
gripe It’s a favorite place for me.

Great service, food, presentation, and ambiance. We had the beet salad & seafood curry and were very happy. Went on Saturday night, and it was a little noisy, but otherwise, recommend.

Loved that Akasha is serving drinks with metal straws!! Someone is making earth friendly decisions. I also appreciated their efforts to create interesting cocktails including 2 for designated drivers.

Service was a bit rushed. I wondered whether our waiter had a hot date.

The food was generally very good although I found the mung bean main course to be quite bland.

Good neighborhood spot. My boyfriend and I had a nice Sunday dinner here and enjoyed the space, and friendly service. Food was good, if a tad overpriced for what it is. We closed out the place and never felt rushed at all.

Our friend was visiting from Northern Cal and had been to Akasha once before. He enjoyed the food so much and the ambiance, that we went there again when he came back to Culver City.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Two of us had the King Salmon....it was cooked to perfection and so good. The kale was just ok; a little tough. We sat outside on the side - not the front - and the ambiance there isn't great but there were 5 of us and it was easy to have a conversation, which is very important to me.

We were a party of four celebrating a birthday. The public parking lot behind the restaurant was a nice surprise and made meeting our friends easy. We were seated on time by Akashi's front desk staff on a busy Saturday night, had a friendly and professional waiter and simply enjoyed ourselves for two hours. We loved that they had a Foxen Chardonnay. The gin and tonic with lime that I ordered was not delicious, but the others ordered Manhattans and were very pleased. The food was very good, prices were not unreasonable and we gave our waiter a 22% tip. Ps. I had been to this restaurant some years ago and didn't like the food, prices, service or noise level, so didn't return, until I saw the review reported a new menu and improved acoustics. Some reviews complained about rude staff, but this was not true for us.

Akasha,
I always love your restaurant. Food and drinks were exceptional.
Service suffered a bit as it was so crowded and it is possible server was inexperienced and served us the 2nd course while we were still eating the first. I asked her to take the plates away as we weren’t ready for them. She seemed shocked I had asked that. Then she took away 3 but left the 4th. My date didn’t want to make waves so started to eat his but that meant that we couldn’t share as we had planned. The very nice manager came over and I relayed what happened and he said he would replace my date’s meal as he agreed to do with the others. Then he admitted he had just run out of shrimp curry so did we want something else. It felt like a comedy of errors and did mar our evening. But it was the last day of Dine L.A. and I think everyone was exhausted
We did have a good table so thank you and all the food was great.
All best,
Beverly Levitt
