About AKASHA

AKASHA restaurant/bar/cafe features New American cuisine offering comfort food with big flavors and sustainable ingredients, for carnivores and herbivores alike. Chef/Caterer Akasha Richmond brings visionary cuisine to her own neighborhood eatery located in the historic Hull Building in downtown Culver City. Keeping the principles of sustainability in mind, the building's original steel, wood, concrete and brick arches were restored while the design materials pair with a seventies modernity to exude an inviting and lively atmosphere. The artisan bakery has both sweet and savory selections, as well as locally roasted direct trade coffee. The 20-seat bar highlights fresh juice cocktails, organic and premium spirits, beer and wine. The entire menu is available for catering or to go.

I think the experience at Akasha has declined in the last 3 years since I went there last . I ordered the avacado/beet salad with no seeds and it came with seeds on it. We ordered some sparkling water and was delivered to the table after our soup and salad. The waiter spilled a drink on a customer at the table next to us. On the good side, they had a roasted bell pepper soup that was tremendous. Good flavors all around.

Love the place but our server was rude and non caring unless you order alcohol.. I am sure it is tip related but sober people tip well too so lose the attotude PLEASE.. I took a friend for birthday brunch and he was not nice to us. I felt like I was bothering him with any requests.

I have eaten here before and I have always found it to have good food and to be a good value. This time we had the fried chicken and the seafood soup with curry broth. Both were excellent. The only disappointment was that we showed up early and wanted to have a happy hour drink. The bar was full so the hostess suggested we go to our table and have a drink there. We did that only to find out that the happy drinks were not available at the tables. Disappointing to say the least.

Restaurant too dark and too noisy. Food good, but a little pricy. Great location for Kirk Douglas theatre goers. Excellent service.

I have visited in 3 previous occasion and have always left satisfied. This time the service was rushed.
Soup arrived, seconds after appetizer and the main soon after that.
The timing was way off.........and I questioned the freshness of the the bread roll served with the Vegi burger, to make up for a disappointed meal they comp one of the desserts

Will not be rushing back anytime soon.

We were seated in the coffee shop part of the restaurant, so not very pleasant when you’re in an “upscale” restaurant. Had I not been with family who just flew in from Miami, I would have left. I’ve been going to Akasha since they opened, so I was very disappointed. If you’re in the main dining room, the ambiance is quite nice. Nobody in the coffee shop, paying Main restaurant prices, looked very happy. If they don’t guarantee main dining room, my suggestion is to go elsewhere

this is by FAR my favorite local restaurant. I have never had a bad meal, and I've eaten in the coffee bar and the restaurant. Both at the table and at the bar. Delicious every time I've stepped through the door.

I've been to this restaurant before and always enjoy the food. When so many restaurants are so noisy, Akasha is refreshingly not noisy. Love this place!

The space is very nicely planned and is surprisingly quiet for such an open floor plan. The service was amazing and the food was equally amazing. I would definitely come here again and try more items on the menu.

We used to love Akasha. We celebrated birthdays there, took out of town guests, and even had a couple of very nice thanksgiving meals there. The ambience, service and cocktails are still great. But we were very disappointed in the food this last visit. Our two favorite items have been removed from the menu (flatbread and shrimp dish), the starters and main dishes were bland and uninspired, and the dessert menu didn’t entice us. We don’t mind paying for a good meal, but the food didn’t merit the tab.

The male manning the reception desk was terrible. He let me stand there for at least five (5) minutes while he was on the phone; never catching my eye, never acknowledging me. As I had made a reservation, I wanted to be sure I checked in. Finally, I saw my dining companion was already seated, so I joined him.

Additionally, it took forever for our server to take my drink order.

Very unlike the previous experiences I've had at this restaurant.

Last night the restaurant was not up to the usual level of quality, starting with the drinks which were mixed with a ton of sugar. Maybe the recipes have been changed? Remakes came back oddly concocted.

I write because we enjoy going to Akasha and, generally enjoy our meals and cocktails, and hope they can be more consistently excellent. Restaurants are a tough business. So many become lax with success and coast.

I was disappointed with our evening. Perhaps it was just the outdoor seating that was noisy and with furniture seems beaten and bruised, but the food didn't make up for it and I wasn't that tempted by the menu in the first place. It wasn't bad; it just wasn't great or memorable. The experience seemed to add up to a place to grab a quick, decent bite before heading elsewhere as opposed to a dining experience. Management, listen up: It is rude to remove plates before plates before everyone at the table is finished. It suggests to others at the table that they are not eating fast enough and should hurry. For me, this was the final nail in the coffin of a possible return visit.

I like that the menu changes from time to time. It's a reliable place to eat, and very convenient when going to KDT or movies. Nevertheless, there need to be more (and more interesting) vegetarian options. Since she's no longer doing the great Indian place (boo hoo) why not add more Indian veg option on the menu?
(I checked "quiet" because we were outdoors.)

Great chicken sliders and the bowls are amazing. I would love for the regular mini-cupcakes to be more moist. They are dry and hard...I would accept that for gluten free but not for regular flour cupcakes...

I have been to this restaurant many times before and always loved it. It was my recommendation for this brunch in fact.or some reason, it just missed on so many levels this time.
The waiter was really confused about the menu and seemed to have no understanding of either dairy-free or gluten-free, in spite of the menus offering these options and polite, but he was a really sweet and polite young man, so this was not really an issue.
My real complaint was that the food lacked absolutely all seasoning and could have greatly benefited from a little salt and pepper in the preparation. I ordered the brisket hash which sounded lovely, completely with the two eggs atop. The meat was tasteless, the sauce weak without any definition, the cubed potatoes just not cooked enough and the eggs unfortunately overcooked with no suggestion of runny oaks...pretty inexcusable. Clearly there is nobody with any knowledge in the kitchen as a sprinkling of salt, pepper and parsley would have made a huge difference in the flavor of the dish.
However, I will go back again as this was an aberration in my experience, but maybe not on Sundays if the chef has the day off.

I attended the Rosh Hashonah Dinner at Akasha this past Wednesday nite. I am a good cook... the matzo ball soup was exquisite (especially the broth); the chopped liver was incredible (onions and I am sure schmaltz), the brisket was great, the latkes were FANTASTIC, the honey cake (altho not quite as good as my Grandma's) as LOVELY.

I had a GREAT, GREAT meal and I love Akasha!
