Would not recommend this establishment!! Terrible food and the service was just acceptable!!
Great experience overall, I would highly recommend it!
I felt something was off, perhaps in the kitchen or short staffed. It took quite a long time to get our first 2 courses so the main didn't arrive until 6:50 pm. With a 7:30 pm next seating, felt rushed through dessert and coffee. Then the bottle neck at the front door with 15+ plus people trying to get their coats to get out, and 15+ people trying to get in for next seating. Things happen. I would suggest a 3 course as well as opposed to 4. It was a lot of food. Too much for me. I would rather pay a little less and have less food. Less pressure on the kitchen and serving staff too if things go sideways. The palate cleansing sorbet was a nice touch. I'd keep that in the menu. Hope this helps. Overall quite good. Would come again.
Small lovely place in the east side. Very cozy. Good food!
Washroom facilities were horrible- I would not go back for this reason. The food was good. The service was okay- we waited a while to get seated, reserved a week prior. While we were ordering the staff excused himself from our table as I was speaking and headed to the door to greet another guest. The ambiance fine. Louder than expected
We had a bit of an issue making the booking, as it was done through OpenTable but then notified that it was cancelled by the restaurant. By calling I was able to re-establish a reservation but at a bit of an early time, which I didn't understand as the restaurant was empty when we arrived. It did start to fill while we were there, though. Our server explained that the issue was due to the booking service. This is apparently about to be addressed.
In any case... the restaurant is charming in decor, in an unassuming location. Our starters were very good, our mains were ok, and our desserts were excellent. We chose from the Winterlicious menu, having the butternut squash soup and house salad for appies, which had good flavour (especially the soup) and freshness, trying a bit of each other's dish. The mains were a bit disappointing compared to the rest of the meal. I had the salmon (not on the current online menu), and my friend had the linguini carbonara, and both seemed a bit underflavoured to each of us. They did a great creme brulee and a great brioche bread pudding, and again we tried of bit of each other's dish, and concurred. Service was attentive, no concerns there. I would go again, but next time maybe try different mains, perhaps from the regular menu.
Servers were fairly friendly and engaging. Took a while for appetizers to arrive, but food arrived fairly quickly after other tables were cleared (I guess they were short-staffed in the kitchen?). They didn't have a cocktail menu, but offered to make a cocktail I wanted, so I ordered an Old Fashioned. It was a bit imbalanced; the bitters was a bit much, but the server did inform me, so I couldn't really taste the bourbon. Butternut squash soup was nice, but the house salad could've been dressed a bit more. Linguine was delicious, steak was tender and well-prepared. Desserts were a great hit.
Would probably give it another shot.
This place could great if they step up the menu. The soup was thin and lacked flavour, the salmon was good but need more than 2 asparagus and 1 Brussels spourt. Some wild rice and more vegetables would have really made it nice and fulfilling. The ice cream was definitely store bought and had 4 blueberries. The crème burlee was very nice. Also the salad was basically out of the Costco packaging with some beets and goat cheese added. The chef needs to own the menu and step up to the plate.
That night was very busy and we ended up with 3 different people serving us. I had to ask for my wine a couple of times and our salad.
More attention to detail would really make this place great.
Espresso was poor
Service was off, waiters seemed confused
The chef was so loud in the kitchen that it was disturbing
I was looking forward to having a nice dining experience for winterlicious and was not too happy of the outcome
This is my 3rd year visiting Aiolio during the Winterlicious Event, this year I rated the establishment a low score, due to the disappointing incident I witnessed on our visit. Ever since I discovered this restaurant I have been taking my husband here to celebrate his birthday. All previous years were excellent. This year, we could hear management yelling at the wait staff and it made other patrons uncomfortable. We couldn't wait to finish our meal. I had to use the bathroom but I skipped to even walk pass the kitchen, once we left, I had to stop by somewhere to use the restroom. Its too bad, food was great. Better last year. This place left a sour taste in my mouth due to the incident. I felt bad for the wait staff after that. The last thing I would ever want to experience is how management treats their staff.
The staff were very warm and helpful. They accommodated all of our questions and needs. The food was nicely prepared, we had the salmon and the steak bavette, which came with a nice sauce. The creme brulee was creamy and rich. I would eat here again
Experience was fantastic Food was excellent as was the service We have discovered a gem in Scarborough
Can't say enough about our waiter Attentive and very funny
Great experience! Delicious food and presentation. Very friendly and polite staff. Will definitely check out again.
Went for Winterlicious low $33 price not asked if we wanted more than 1 glass wine; our order was lost!!! Waited an hour between appetizer & main course...freezing cold air blew into restaurant every time front door opened...having a ratty, thin curtain in vestibule did NOT help at all & made front entrance look like a dishevelled ”gypsy” tent...no one greeted us just inside door as we arrived, unlike 6 months ago when we last dined when owner welcomed us & took us to our table. All in all a disappointing experience. Too bad.
It was a wonderful pleasant dining experience and would highly
Recommend this restaurant
Cute place. Food was very mediocre. Friend and I both ordered the Caesar Salad which was alright, however presentation was veryyy odd and not convenient as you have to deconstruct the lettuce to be able to eat it, lacked dressing and could have used a little bit more bacon bits. I had steak with mashed potatoes. Steak was good, potatoes though were very bland. Friend ordered Linguini Carbonara which I was able to taste but again lacked flavour, just tasted of buttered noodles. Dessert was the star of the show, crème brûlé was very nice and the passion fruit sorbet my friend ordered was to die for. I ordered the mulled spice wine which took about 20 min to arrive as they were still brewing it when I ordered. Once I got it I was not impressed. Service was not bad but not the greatest either. The girl who was serving was pleasant however appeared to be new, didn’t seem familiar with the menu at all and seemed very clumsy with serving the wine and coming in with the condiments. There was a gentleman who appeared to be maybe the manager/owner kept coming to the table a little too often to ask how we were doing and asking our opinion on the food kind of made us uncomfortable as our conversation kept being interrupted. Kitchen is a hectic environment in any restaurant, however I shouldn’t have to hear the chef yelling at another cook, the entire restaurant went quiet making it very awkward. Caught the manager/owner having to shushh the people in the kitchen multiple times. Overall place was alright, I guess its okay for the price. Would I go again? Mmmm only for dessert.
This is a lovely gem of a restaurant. Great for locals!!
No heat, chef was the server and the cook so it wasn’t friendly dining. Chef was running around doing everything so we had to ask for soup spoon, salt n pepper whereas a good waiter would be able to spot this right away. He needs to work in the kitchen n get a good server. The soup was hot n good and it was welcome due to no heat we wore our winter coats. Black cod was very tasty and hot and my husband’s meal was half cold n half hot. We would have stayed but again too cold. Don’t think we will be back.
I am glad you enjoyed your meals we always aim to please. That day in particular we had an emergency furnace situation as it turns out and our server scheduled for that night had the flu and no one else was available. I hope you try us again, if you have anything else you would like to share with us please email us at info@aiolio.ca
Quiet resto (early on s Saturday evening). Excellent food. Everyine in the party loved it.
Excellent gem in Scarborough. Would highly recommend,
Some of you may recall a scathing review that I gave the Scarborough restaurant Aiolio.
Well, things have changed....the nasty chef/owner has been replaced by the charming good cook Colin. His partner Andrew has stayed in touch with me after my deplorable birthday dinner and invited us back for a new experience. My friend and I enjoyed a lovely meal, served by the very attentive waiter, Dave.
They have recently reopened with a new menu and
soon -to-be newer look.
Check it out at 2496 Kingston Road.
Pinot Grigio lovely. Muscles, potato crusted grouper, duck confit all fantastic! The menu was unique and refreshing to see gourmet menu choices without having to go downtown. Staff attentive & so upbeat 👏🏻 The decor warm and classy.
Loved it & of course we’ll be back....often.
Great food and a nice bottle of Chianti for $35!
The baguette could have been a little better. Would have liked garlic in the aioli.
I had mussels linguine in a tomato sauce. It was fabulous. A ton of mussels and pasta perfectly al dente. Tha flavour was masterful.
For dessert we split a creme brule'. One of the best I've ever had . Crispy on top and tasty pudding in the middle. Also took bread pudding dessert to go for breakfast next day. It was supreme!
We missed Henri, the original owner but met Colin the new owner and it looks like he's dedicated to bringing the quality french and Italian cuisine that we've come to expect from this gem of a spot in southern Scarborough. Under$100
I had the fungi risotto- delicious! The restaurant looks small but really opens up
We always enjoyed Aioli and Aiolio, so we were anxious to try Aiolio Trattoria and it did not disappoint!
The menu contains new and unique dishes as well as retaining some of the old favourites. The soup changes but is always delicious! The Linguine with duck confit and turchon of foie gras was fabulous! It is definitely my new favourite. The Brasised beef penne was also wonderful. Ask Henri or your server to suggest a wine with dinner, they have a lovely selection And save room for dessert! If you are looking for a cozy, reasonably priced restaurant, with consistently delicious food, try Aiolio Trattoria. I would travel a distance to eat here, fortunately we are lucky enough to have them in our neighbourhood.
Enjoyed price fixe
Henri was a wonderful host. We attended a business dinner there and were pleasantly surprised by ALL aspects of our experience. I highly recommend.
It is an excellent restaraunt in a very sketchy area
Excellent food and service. Our server paid special attention to us but wasn’t overbearing. Highly recommend.
Came during summerlicious. Big portions, tasted great, good service, best value for your money! The only thing that bugged me was that a glass of wine was $11...
Very friendly staff and I had some of the tastiest dishes I have ever had.
Excellent meal at affordable Summerlicious prices; good-sized portions; very attentive service. My only concern was that service seemed rushed; from the time we arrived to the time we left was only an hour for a 3-course meal, and we were not asked if we wanted coffee or tea with dessert. We would have liked to have lingered a bit longer! Hope to return to this fine restaurant.
This was my second time having dinner at Aiolio. My first experience was much better than my second. The chef/owner greeted us (group of 4 ladies) at the door the first time, but not the second (my husband and myself); perhaps our entry into the restaurant wasn't good timing for him to get away which I could understand. It was surprising that there was only one type of red wine and one type of white wine offered but fortunately both wines were suitable to their Summerlicious menu options. I think it might be a good idea to have one glass of (their selected) wine included in the pricing if only one type is offered and have the customer pay for additional glasses of either the same or something they would prefer. We were somewhat disappointed with both the main dishes we selected but the appetizers and desserts were quite nice. We really enjoy the vibe of the restaurant and not having to go downtown for a night out is a bonus.
We enjoyed the meals, and the service was good. We would go again.
The staff are curt and uninformative. I asked for a wine list, they denied having one but would tell us what they had. (Which, apparently was a red and a white wine.)
The menu was equally uninformative. Porc en brochette is skewered pork. No where did it mention it was covered in mushrooms; something my husband can’t eat. They did bring him it with no mushroom sauce, but it left us eating separately. Not overly romantic.
Later, I discovered they do have a wine menu online. I don’t think customers should have to go online whilst in a restaurant for such a simple thing.
The vegetables were hot but raw, except for my husband’s mashed sweet potatoes that had the consistency of baby food. The duck was good; crisp outside, tender inside. The pork also was cooked nicely. The restaurant was pleasantly decorated, though a little odd walking through bed sheets to enter.
It’s sad, as this could be a nice place to eat. Mostly it was the staff’s snotty attitude and the lack of basic restaurant communication. People want to know what they’re ordering, and be able to peruse the wine list without going online.
I went with my parents and I will come back with my husband 🥰
At first the server was quite accommodating to our requests for clarification about the menu. Towards the end of the meal, unfortunately, the server's attitude had a condescending note. Furthermore, we detected an unpleasant odour in the restaurant itself which made us wonder about the level of cleanliness in the restaurant.
It is our favourite local restaurant! We highly recommend it.
Always a great experience in dining.
Perfect spot for a wonderful meal, friendly service and great price!
